Inquiry into massive increase in girls seeking gender reassignment.

Hi all,

I'm sure some of you are aware that a few years ago the Gender Equalities Office was tasked with investigating the steep rise in girls being referred for gender reassignment (over 4,500% in about a decade), does anyone know anything about what became of that inquiry?

(Link: www.thetimes.co.uk/article/inquiry-into-surge-in-gender-treatment-ordered-by-penny-mordaunt-b2ftz9hfn)

I'm researching gender dysphoria in girls and I'd love to know if the govt have got anywhere with it. I've emailed the GEO and Penny Mordaunt (who ordered the inquiry) but haven't heard anything back.

If you know anything, please can you share!?

Many thanks!

*quote in writing, I should add which appeared in a SAR response from the school.

rogdmum · 01/02/2022 16:32

And schools.

Direct quote from the Year Head who supported our daughter’s social transition firstly behind our backs and then against clinical advice:

“We just saw a young person who had had many issues in the past and we thought this may have been an answer.”

The “many issues” were extreme persistent bullying which was mishandled by the school and then that’s their reaction the instant she said she thought sh was trans?

That video. Seeing what is being done to these young people. I mean you hear of it. somehwere in my head it was more like a piercing than a c-section. But the reality. It's more like the c-section. oh no.

I'm happy the movement itself is moving away from surgical intervention as a whole. It's almost like an entire generation was being used as lab rats.

And that last statement about needing to know what is real, it reminded me of a parenting thread I used to lurk on. Something about holding on to the end of the rope, tethering or grounding your teenagers while they played tug of war with you. Someone said it was hardwork but your children are relying on you to know where the other end of the rope is. Relying on you to know that someone has got them and they will not float away. Someone is locked to the ground and they can trust that person to hold on while they battle the entire universe.

Something along those lines anyway. I just never expected it to be something of this magnitude that parents would have to face en masse.

As a parent of one of these girls on testosterone seeking a mastectomy, I am completely over the idea that "we don't know why this trend is happening". We absolutely do. There are a number of contributing factors, but social media and social contagion is #1, as is neatly presented in this fabulous short film. Please share this widely, we parents need the message to get out there. And keep your kids of social media completely until they are old enough to vote (and pornography). It is wreaking terrible havoc on our kids' mental health and sense of self.

UPDATE:
I recieved a reply from Penny Mordaunt who commissioned the inquiry saying merely this:

"Thank you for your enquiry. I understand it was cancelled by my successor. Sorry not to be able to help more"

How disappointing!

@Gildersleeve I assumed you're following the Cass review updates?

Cass mentions a team at York filling in data gaps around longer term impacts of hormones. I don't know whether there's other info / research linked in the review.

The issue is that there's very little actual research going on and a lot of obstruction when there is.

I would love to know what number of those transitioning are autistic. From experience working in secondary schools, I would guess it's high.
If these young people end up sterile then we are witnessing a fom of self inflicted eugenics.

Feelingoktoday · 27/01/2022 16:13

On one of the forums might have been Glimmer there was a posting by a non U.K. girl who had transitioned and had a full hysterectomy. She bitterly regrets this saying that she would have like a child and was far too young at the time (in her 20s) and had not been given sufficient information.

Gumbomambo · 27/01/2022 16:02

@LindaEllen I’m with you but what I’m really worried about is, it seems to be our young girls having their breasts cut off. The gender reassignment doesn’t often go the other way though? The middle aged men who believe they are women seem to want to keep their penis. If they truly believed they were women wouldn’t they want to have it removed?

WarriorN · 27/01/2022 15:49

It's also been found that a large number of girls diagnosed with anorexia meet the criteria for autism as well.

LindaEllen · 27/01/2022 11:31

I find it quite scary, because as much as there will be people who do genuinely feel this way, and could benefit from gender reassignment, there will be thousands others who are doing it because it's the 'in' thing at the moment.

I just hope that these girls don't go too far with treatment etc.

Gildersleeve · 27/01/2022 11:00

Hi everyone,
Thanks so much for all your input. I will check out your various links!
I've read Abigail Shrier's book and other similar content. It is my belief that many of these young girls have autism and have been given a new language for their gender non-conformity that they didn't have before.
A study in 2019 found that 42% of those identifying as trans and non-binary met the criteria for an autism diagnosis (compared with between 1% and 2% of the general public.)
Study: www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S0924933819301014
Will share an update when/if I track down what has become of the inquiry!

I'm really not sure why transgenderism is always conflated with homosexuality/ bisexuality when gay/bi people are grouped by sexuality and transgenderism is to do with believing you're something you're not? Can someone explain? (This is a genuine question)
I think it goes back to transvestite male homosexuals being part of the gay community. None of whom ever claimed to actually be women. When that claim started to be made by heterosexual males, some in that community didn't quite notice (or care - unfortunately there's always been a misogynist element among gay men), hence the "no LGB without the T" and "our trans siblings" stuff in the face of an ideology that redefines and erases homosexuality.

Still, there must be some tremendous cognitive dissonance going on there!

WarriorN · 26/01/2022 18:51

There's a longer answer involving the history of how it was.

Women were completely overlooked.

WarriorN · 26/01/2022 18:50

Well quite.

That's the question we all want answers to.

I don't know about that particular report, however I'd imagine a simple explanation is that as society becomes more tolerant, more people will "come out" and be open about their experiences of gender dysphoria.

It's similar to more gay people being able live openly once it stopped being illegal. It would have looked like there was a steep increase in the numbers of gay people, when actually there were just more able to openly live as they wanted and stop hiding it or attempting to conform to heterosexual "norms".

Gender dysphoria is a crippling condition. You don't keep it quiet and then suddenly 'come out'. It affects your every waking moment. It's nothing like being gay. That's a sexual orientation.

The idea that having gender dysphoria is the same as being same-sex attracted is clearly not true.

And in fact, the doctrine of gender ideology completely negates the entire concept of homosexuality.

And yes, as others have pointed out, if it was the same as sexual orientation, you would find similar numbers of girls and boys, and you would find middle-aged women transitioning in the same way as middle-aged men.

None of which is happening.

Waitwhat23 · 26/01/2022 17:01

The rise in girls transitioning and the disparity between girls and boys transitioning (given that historically it was always a majority of males who did so) in particular is always ignored by the usual suspects on these threads. It's not a UK only phenomenon, it's a trend globally -

www.gov.uk/government/news/government-set-to-begin-next-phase-of-gender-transition-research

'This shows that the pattern in the UK (where 2.8 natal girls are being referred for every 1 boy), is mirrored in a number of other developed countries:

• Tampere, Finland: 6.8 girls referred for every 1 boy

• Toronto, Canada: 1.8 girls referred for every 1 boy

• Amsterdam, Netherlands: 1.7 girls referred for every 1 boy'

I am always baffled by the seeming complete lack of curiosity behind this phenomenon. It is happening, so why is there a concerted effort to deny it and to avoid research being undertaken?

Goatsaregreat · 26/01/2022 16:18

My 9 year old had a "diversity" lesson in school which consisted of 5 males talking to the class (some were trans, some were gay, none were female) and talking about how stereotypes are harmful and how they were now happy and successful and how it was all marvellous. My little girl came home and said to me that if she was "attracted to the same gender as her" she would have to become a boy .
This is a little girl who still believes in father Christmas and the tooth fairy, has no idea about sexual attraction at all, but believes that if she is gay , she has to become a boy. She didn't even know the word gender before that lesson. I had no idea they were having this lesson .

That's appalling Itsnotdeep. How anyone can think that's an appropriate session for 9 year olds defeats me.

But you don't need to have gender dysphoria to be trans. It's just about who you are inside.

That is too simple an explanation, I suspect.

Where are all the middle aged women transitioning? Why is it just teenage girls and middle aged men? What does it actually mean to have gender dysphoria and how is a teenage girl supposed to distinguish it from ‘normal’ (horrible but not out of the ordinary) teenage body dysmorphia/hatred? How can a teenage girl actually know what it means to ‘feel like a boy’? Given that some schools have 10s of trans identified children (massively disproportionate to the overall population) and others none at all, do you think social contagion might play a role? And what about the fact that a significant number of these girls have suffered from sexual abuse- maybe trans is a convenient label for those who would like to ‘escape’ the female sexed body and all the baggage they perceive to come with it.

Keira Bell experienced childhood sexual abuse and violence, came from a very religious family and was very uncomfortable with the fact that she was a lesbian. She thinks all of these things drove her to transition unnecessarily at 16. She wasn’t questioned by doctors/therapists about her background at all.

Clymene · 26/01/2022 15:03

In the numbers I mean. The vast majority of teenagers are girls, the vast majority of middle aged people are men.

How does that explain the vast differences between girls and boys identifying as trans?
