Stumbled accross this on twitter. Matt Walsh, an American political commentator is on a chat show and confronts transactivist to define a woman and tells him that he is appropriating womanhood.

Then after being told that he has 'traumatised' the activists... He provides this response!!

Wow. He says sh*t straight.... Haha!

@EeeICouldRipATissue

You are on board with the Police checking people's thinking @barleybadminton** This is so obtuse though. It's not just a thought anymore if someone was to publish their thoughts or try to actively discriminate against people, whether they be trans, gay or black etc, is it? It goes beyond that.
Publishing thoughts, eh?

Goodness, the very idea of... free... speech...

If anyone is interested, this is the Socialist Workers' Party's response to a detailed account of the misogynistic and racist behaviour of some members.

Trans people are facing a barrage of attacks.

The Socialist Workers Party (SWP) stands with the oppressed and unequivocally says, “Trans women are women,” and, “Trans men are men.” Trans people have the right to organise against their oppression and the right to protest against it. We stood in solidarity with the trans students and workers at the University of Sussex who were rightly outraged by Kathleen Stock’s views.

The SWP did not organise or encourage the protest outside the Woman’s Place UK meeting in London on Wednesday 27 October. Our materials, such as Socialist Worker and placards, were not on the protest and those centrally involved in the protest are not SWP members.

However, we understand that two people in a video of the protest are SWP members, who took part as individuals. One of those individuals uses unacceptable sexist language and behaviour towards a woman involved in the WPUK meeting. The party will investigate this in accordance with our procedures.

The attacks on trans rights are pushed by the Tories and the wider right—and go hand in hand with attacks on women’s rights.Our focus is fighting the right wing—and for a socialist society that uproots all oppression.

Barley, did you write this? Grin

@PurgatoryOfPotholes

Barley, do you ever think, "why the fuck do people on my side keep making us look like women-hating arseholes?"
There's a simple answer to that Purgatory - but it would get me a deletion.
VestofAbsurdity · 23/01/2022 22:44

We are talking about far right regimes where being cancelled doesn't mean you lose your consultancy post or decide to resigm from your university because students were being mean to you or even facing a quiet chat from the police to check your thinking. It means being disappeared, possibly along with your family and thrown in jail without trial if you're lucky or a mass grave if not. It doesn't mean isolated and indeed unpleasant examples like Wi spa but the systemic torture and rape of women who dissent. It means women and their children forced into refugee camps, gays and lesbians executed and jailed, immigrants deported or massacred. You've got to have some sense of entitlement to think this is in anyway comparable to trans women being included in women's spaces or maternity wards using language that annoys you.

You are on board with the Police checking people's thinking @barleybadminton, righto, that's stage 1 of authoritarian movements.

You think WiSpa was an unpleasant example? How low can you go?

You think students were merely being mean to Kathleen Stock?

You don't believe in freedom of speech or thought and you claim you are not authoritarian, right ho.

MrBlobbyLivesNextDoor · 23/01/2022 22:35

Thank goodness the gender critical movement has remained so tiny and seems to be slowly petering out because there are some monstrous attitudes within it and thankfully more and more people are waking up to that.

It ain't petering out honey. It's getting bigger. And you will lose.

VestofAbsurdity · 23/01/2022 22:32

I think it's more that authoritarian movements in general, whether the Christian religious right, fascists, Stalinists and radical Islamists are all deeply hostile to trans rights.

Oh please, TRAs and the Gender Ideology movement is Grade A authoritarian.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 23/01/2022 22:31

It's a deliberate tactic London. Make the most outrageous claims, appropriating and misusing such serious issues and attempting to smear women with them. I recall another poster who used to post lengthy diatribes against women - word salad full of long words, regular and allegations about how appalling and right wing we are, individually responsible for holding up every right wing despot in the world

It's all just politically incoherent nonsense from desperate people

Nailed it 🐐

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 23/01/2022 22:28

Indeed and about the only people on the radical left who support the gender critical movement are the Stalinists and Leninists of the Communist Party. Funny that.

We are happy to do without members of the SWP who hurl racist abuse at black people who happen to be in the vicinity of a feminist conference. Ta very much.

No it's not, The Morning Star, the mouthpiece of the Marxist Leninist movement in the UK has published several pieces from gender critical activists

Faints Grin

barleybadminton · 23/01/2022 22:27

@Sophoclesthefox

Amazing how women manage to be tools of the far right AND the far left at the same time! We simultaneously agitate for all sorts of awful things, while being controlled by shadowy forces we don’t understand.

And if suddenly women can’t have abortions as the far right gain ascendency then guess what? It was all our fault anyway!

Risible scaremongering nonsense. Really not worth the headroom.

And there was the picketing of the LGB Alliance conference too.

And the picketing (and yelling of misogynist and racist abuse, including at people who happened to be attending a different conference for black people in business nearby) outside the Woman's Place UK session on the welfare of female prisoners.

It's a bit of a pattern really.

VestofAbsurdity · 23/01/2022 22:20

No, in fact it seems to have nothing to do with trans women. And the idea this attack would have been prevented by a single sex space is equally false. Men who are prepared to do things like this are not going to be put off by a woman's sign on the door sadly.

Really? Had everything to do with gender identity ideology whereby a man/boy who says he is a woman/girl/fluid/non binary whatever can use the toilets/changing rooms of their choice.

The Well it didn’t take long to go from accusations of getting into bed with the far right to rapes are gonna happen anyway, so it doesn’t matter is such a compelling argument isn't it NotBadConsidering?. Proof positive, if it were needed, that TRAs and proponents of gender identity ideology view women and girls as sub human and any damage or discomfort caused to women and girls by their ideology is completely irrelevant.

I think posts like this are more worrying than the support for Walsh and really reveal the privilege behind the gender critical movement. Whatiswrongwithmyknee · 23/01/2022 22:17

Are trans people trying to ban abortion? Do trans activists believe in racial hierarchies? Are trans activists bombing abortion clinics?
Well some yes because despite what seems to be the current acceptable discourse - trans people are not always right. So yes, some are as well as some GC people. This doesn't make it an inherent part of the TRA ideology and neither does it make it an inherent part of the GC ideology.

Do trans activists want to limit women's access to contraception?
They are excluding people who do not have excellent literacy skills from all sorts of healthcare through using obscure and over-medicalised language, so...yes

Do trans people want to ban gay marriage and think that women should become 'trad wives' and restricted to the domestic sphere?
Um...yes. If lesbians are not able to be lesbians and instead should accept cock, then the foundations of rights for gay people are being eroded. By defining 'woman' as anyone who in the 1950's did 'womanly things' then regressive stereotypes are entrenched and gender roles become more rigid.

Look into what happened to women in Franco's Spain if you want an idea of what a religious hard right government looks like. Should such a regime emerge again then all this fretting about who can call themselves a woman, and toilets and what words maternity clinics should use, and people being 'silenced' and even prisons and sports, will fade into insignificance as women are once again turned into unpaid domestic and sexual servants and women who dissent are tortured in prisons.
Yes so think about how similar the TRA techniques are to those used by such totalitarian regimes.

It's ridiculous that you refuse to see that gender ideology can, and often is, seen as extremist. The proponents, and their aggressive tactics have shut down debate and learning in UK universities. Clearly dystopian and very worrying. Is that what you want to support? Do you support the death and rape threats TRA have issued? No? so what do you expect to be able to align some beliefs, but not all, with others? Your posts are very opaque Barley and do appear to be another attempt to obfuscate and distract.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 23/01/2022 22:15

You seem to be skating over the issue of picketing a feminist conference while they were speaking to abused lesbians in the developing world. What kind of person disrupts that?

I think it's that racial hierarchy you think you don't have, which clearly thinks black lesbians must cede space to white transwomen and white trans activists.

Goatsaregreat · 23/01/2022 22:14

@PurgatoryOfPotholes

Barley, having raised the subject of homophobia-motivated violence against lesbians, would you like to address why trans activists picketed FiLiA and drew pictures of male genitalia on the pavement, as the women inside listened to livestreams of persecuted lesbians speaking from other countries?
Misogyny, male supremacy along with a good dose of bullying and sexual intimidation cover it I reckon Purgatory. Behaviour that some just laugh at. Confused

Haha from the movement that has men dressed up as erect penises at their demos and goes round sticking pictures of penises on public artwork the hypocrisy is once again unbelievable.

And individual acts are not the same as a political programme.
