Stumbled accross this on twitter. Matt Walsh, an American political commentator is on a chat show and confronts transactivist to define a woman and tells him that he is appropriating womanhood.

Then after being told that he has 'traumatised' the activists... He provides this response!!

Wow. He says sh*t straight.... Haha!

Quick look at titles blurb of his his output gives v clear picture of his views/beliefs.

He is a far right Christian extremist, at least as far as views of vast majority UK go.

Sunlight? Wider audience?

Realistically, who are his audience? People who agree with him in the first place, and also enjoy getting nice and worked up about it all.

Preaching to converted, in short.

CheeseMmmm · 22/01/2022 02:27

'It’s hyperbolic purity spiral nonsense. Walsh is a right wing political commentator, he’s not a dictator. But for what it’s worth if we are going down that road, if Gandhi was alive and said “transwomen are women!” I would still call him a misogynistic prick.'

Ghandi was really dodgy when it came to young attractive women, and some v not good 'experiments' around sex.

Just FYI!

nolongersurprised · 22/01/2022 01:46

And it might just be that Matt Walsh is politically savvy and realises that girls being raped in gender neutral bathrooms and then this being covered up and lied about is a potentially huge vote sawyer for suburban swing voters.

Even so, a wider audience knows about it and can make voting choices accordingly. I don’t think sunlight is political

nolongersurprised · 22/01/2022 01:38

We are on the side of the truth, but we don’t own the truth

This is a really good point. Even in the US opinions have become very partisan, at least on social media platforms.

Somehow simple truths have become political and many women are now grappling with becoming politically homeless - look at the thread on voting Labour in AIBU.

It should be ok to state what you think is a truth without checking that the people “on your side” also believe it. It’s a common TRA tactic used to sow doubt.

As an aside, if I was a parent in Loudoun and the school board and principal had lied about a girl being raped in a gender neutral bathroom I’d vote for whoever would prevent that sort of shit ever happening again.

NotBadConsidering · 22/01/2022 01:23

Cheesemum you have misinterpreted my “so what”. I do care about those issues, my “so what” means so what if they do, agreeing with Walsh does not mean that I do. It’s irrelevant. You seem to think that because the vague notion of the “Christian right in the US” believes those things it should bear relevance to whether Walsh is right or has done a good thing. So I’ll ask you again:

Is Matt Walsh right on the nonsense about the definition of woman or not?

Is Matt Walsh right to bring attention to the rape of two girls in Loudoun County or not?

nolongersurprised · 22/01/2022 01:20

Cheese in the US it’s the Democrats who support destroying the endocrine systems and fertility of physically healthy children.

It doesn’t mean that most of my political beliefs don’t align that way, or that I would never agree with a Democrat about anything, ever.

allmywhat · 22/01/2022 01:19

It’s not a trap, that’s playing the game on TRA terms. TRAs won’t disown rapists and child abusers as long as they say the right catechisms, but they expect GC people to purity-police each other and everyone who agrees with us, and they crow about it when we don’t. That’s a trap.

We are on the side of the truth, but we don’t own the truth. Lots of people who aren’t feminists are on the side of the truth, because it is the truth. Walsh is not my ideological fellow traveller in any respect, not even in his opposition to TRA bullshit, because opposition to TRA bullshit isn’t an ideology, any more than “not being a CrossFit fan” is an ideology. Walsh has nothing in common with me whatsoever, but he told the truth well in that video, why not acknowledge it?

CheeseMmmm · 22/01/2022 01:07

Threads like this interesting for me, not often in position of being told essentially useless on feminist issues!

Anyway.

Yes the hard right religious USA is keen on those thingshmm. So what?'

So what? SO WHAT?

How many women and girls are harmed, physically damaged each year due to religious beliefs?

Go on look it up. Abortion laws in States, RC hosps etc.

Child marriage. Look it up. Look at the legacy of harm. Look at the numbers of girls forced to marry rapists in their religious community. When girl is impregnated through child sexual abuse. Because means no prosecution.

Look at toll on LGB people. USA in areas is where conversion therapy is a big problem. So much harm. Who mainly does it? Oh yes that would be fundamental Christian groups.

So what eh. Who cares.

I care. What an awful post.

CheeseMmmm · 22/01/2022 00:55

Few posts mention protected characteristics.

They are not USA law.

USA is vv different here. All really in common is language. Arguably.

Example.

USA in general.

T not one group.
Laws etc group LGBT+ etc.

When talk about homophobia etc. USA people.

Many states v little protection LGB.

Can't be compared to here.

Pushback against things for T in practice means the whole set that T is with. IE LGB.

That's v different to here where LGB and T are separated.

Context is vv important.

The constant pressing of USA specific things here is really unhelpful. And the cross dialogue.

It's vv common for- (using England as where know about, obv we same laws Wales. Scotland NI large differences laws).

  • UK person talking T in England context, nothing to do with LGB people in this country across population. Laws here vv different and are not depending on which area of the country.
-USA talking it's all in one. Pushback one is pushback all. Plus of course vv massive political landscape, influence of religious views, active constant high level attempts to move States to have laws reflecting beliefs of what most see here as vvv extreme religious fundamentalists.
nolongersurprised · 22/01/2022 00:49

I know who he is and I know what he stands for on other matters and I still agree with him on the nonsense about “what is a woman?” and the fact he drew nationwide attention to the horrors that happened in Loudoun County.

I agree.

Cheese it’s really important to make up your own mind about things, not just agree with people depending on whose “team” they are on. This is partly how left wing women sleep walked into this mess in the first place, many started as instinctive allies.

It’s not a trap, Clicking on a Twitter link wont suddenly mean my mind is infiltrated with conservative propaganda and I become brain washed and start supporting child marriage and become anti-Abortion Hmm

NotBadConsidering · 22/01/2022 00:44

Yes the hard right religious USA is keen on those thingsHmm. So what?

Is Matt Walsh right on the nonsense about the definition of woman or not?

Is Matt Walsh right to bring attention to the rape of two girls in Loudoun County or not?

And regarding this paragraph:

Would it be hoorah what a guy if it were top Isis chap, warboys, that guy who shot a USA doc going to work in abortion provider, the bloke in charge of Belarus, Pol pot or Satan? (Yes last two silly but come on!).

It’s hyperbolic purity spiral nonsense. Walsh is a right wing political commentator, he’s not a dictator. But for what it’s worth if we are going down that road, if Gandhi was alive and said “transwomen are women!” I would still call him a misogynistic prick.

CheeseMmmm · 22/01/2022 00:33

Oh yes forgot point! I don't know this chap views but generally the hard right religious USA is variously keen on things like-

  • Abortion ban. Massive harm to women and girls. This bloke anti abortion. Sure you all aware of religion and abortion USA fundamental Christian.

  • Related to that, the v surprisingly large number RC hosps in USA. The top RC chap USA makes rules they to follow.
Have been problems women having miscarriages mismanaged due to anti abortion edict. They are biggest provider of non profit healthcare there.

  • Child marriage yep why not. Good news new jersey did ban after he blocked it as per below.
    Wiki USA child marriage-
    en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Child_marriage_in_the_United_States

'A high profile Republican governor has declined to sign into law, a measure that would have made his state the first to ban child marriage without exception.

Chris Christie, the governor of New Jersey and someone who has been a staunch supporter of Donald Trump, said such a ban would conflict with religious customs. He did not specify what religions he was referring to.'

NotBadConsidering · 22/01/2022 00:18

What “trap”?! What utter rubbish. Who cares if a TRA Monitor posted a screen shot and got a few likes from their brainwashed followers? Who cares if this guy’s platform is advanced? I’m not some naive little Twitter follower incapable of my own thoughts. I know who he is and I know what he stands for on other matters and I still agree with him on the nonsense about “what is a woman?” and the fact he drew nationwide attention to the horrors that happened in Loudoun County.

You, on the other hand, have fallen into the trap of purity spirals, only condoning the views of those you see pure enough.

CheeseMmmm · 21/01/2022 23:58

@NotBadConsidering

I think any ideology that promotes destroying the endocrine systems and fertility of children is evil

Agreed.

And any ideology that puts rapists in prison with women is evil.

And any ideology that prevents parents from raising concerns at school meetings leading to another girl being raped is evil.

And any ideology that says “it will never happen!” and ignores all the examples of it happening is evil.

I don't know about this chap views on anything other than wiki and what said on thread.

Of course it's a trap. Loads of threads like this. Hoorah look who said this! No idea about this poster. However. Big push for ages asserting any sex> gender people are right wing USA type fundamental Christians.

Who are using trans children and age access PBs surgery etc as a means to get abortion banned/restricted.

Who want deeply conservative sex roles enforced.

And all the other views that come with those beliefs.

He said this ok whatever. I doubt his audience are fans of anyone who doesn't fit their ideas anyway.

It's foolhardy to express super positive support for this man in general. Respect to him? I saw when clicked. Really?

JRM I'm sure would also be v much decided on what woman is and say male being female ridiculous.

But he's still a complete and utter bastard.

Yes it's a trap. And look! On Twitter which was either point of thread or monitors.

Would it be hoorah what a guy if it were top Isis chap, warboys, that guy who shot a USA doc going to work in abortion provider, the bloke in charge of Belarus, Pol pot or Satan? (Yes last two silly but come on!).

@ItsCoachBombay
Check out this thread….. It provides a good start/summary of the madness that is this topic.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3145470-Break-it-down-for-me

ItsCoachBombay · 21/01/2022 23:43

I've had one or two or four espresso martinis but bare with me.

So people formally referred to as "women" are now cis-women (whatever that means) and transwomen are now women....

Why do I have to have my identity stolen and replaced? 😳 I'm a woman, I was a girl, then a teenage girl and now a woman. I'm 32 I can't be fucked with a new label to be honest, this one's been hard enough to deal with the majority of the time as it is. I feel like I've just got my driver's licence and now someone's asking me to drive a lorry 🤦🏻‍♀️

Phobiaphobic · 21/01/2022 22:53

But i am absolutely certain that this will crumble, and it's going to be this year.

Christ, I hope so. There's only so many years of this nonsense you can take before you feel like you're going crazy.

littlbrowndog · 21/01/2022 21:58

It does to me too 🤣🤣🤣

TurquoiseBaubles · 21/01/2022 21:38

@nolongersurprised

Actually, I take it back. Its parody. She identifies as 1/8 Black semitrans demisexual lesbian who dates men.
How do you know that's a parody? It sounds perfectly reasonable to me Grin
nolongersurprised · 21/01/2022 21:27

It is a parody

I thought that at first but she’s got the whole look down pat as well. Am following her now

allmywhat · 21/01/2022 21:08

And in the context that one of them draws their livelihood from posing in a bikini, hips thrust to emulate a female model’s pose, the use of the word ‘costume’ may have some relevance

wow, really? I'm almost impressed. That person might be savvier than they seem if they've managed to somehow monetise their appearance. Who's the market? Are they an "influencer" selling woke indulgences to brands?

littlbrowndog · 21/01/2022 21:08

It is a parody

nauticant · 21/01/2022 21:07

One problem we face these days is that satire and reality (according to trans activists) are often indistinguishable. If you look at Ann Lesby's (DYSWSDT?) timeline, you can find gems like this:

twitter.com/AnnLesbyPhD/status/1483976423517818883

littlbrowndog · 21/01/2022 21:07

Anne is very funny

sacredfeminina · 21/01/2022 21:06

Well im feeling slightly smug my first mumsnet thread has got me a screenshot on twitter by the barmytransarmy.

I listened to the full podcast in which matt walsh discusses his appearance on the show. He does sadly say that his number one priority is truth, over women's safety, and that he was not really bothered about the topic (of women's rights) itself, but it's what the transactivists brought to the table with their untruths, and so he will fight it. He kinda says he would be just as bothered if people started to say a square was a circle... well what do we expect from someome anti-abortion... Maybe he will change his mind on abortion after spending his time wrapping his manly head around the experience of women.

Anyway, his points are still valid: it shows the ridiculoussnes and ultimate weakness of the TRA: they are undermining the rights of half of the world AND telling a complete untruth. Doomed to failure. Its just fucked up that along the way children will be medically abused, women sexually abused, people will lose their jobs and lots and lots of wasted energy and resources of women's rights charity's focused on stupid shit like single sex toilets and not on the stuff they need to be dealing with (like fgm/trafficking etc)...

But i am absolutely certain that this will crumble, and it's going to be this year.
