Stumbled accross this on twitter. Matt Walsh, an American political commentator is on a chat show and confronts transactivist to define a woman and tells him that he is appropriating womanhood.

Then after being told that he has 'traumatised' the activists... He provides this response!!

Wow. He says sh*t straight.... Haha!

I only started following him as I decided to mix up who I follow so I could get both sides of arguments instead of only getting stuff I agree with. I don't agree with most of his views but do on this one.

allmywhat · 23/01/2022 09:02

@nolongersurprised

I don’t want to like him because, overall, I’d disagree with him more than I agree, but he was funny too. Grin
This was how I felt! And honestly, that video where he straight up said “I think you’re bad people” was refreshing.

He doesn’t have to worry about being cancelled, but there is some talent in being able to do that. As a pp mentioned Posie Parker is another person who seems able to cut through all the bullshit and say it straight. (Not comparing her or her views to Walsh in any other way, goddamn I’m tired of attaching disclaimers to everything and carefully watching my words.)

All the verbiage and nonsense surrounding this subject is so tiresome. And pretentious. No wonder woke people complain about being tired all the time. Sometimes I feel like the whole of society is suffocating under a big pile of bullshit.

allmywhat · 23/01/2022 08:46

reminds me of nothing more than some of the most inflexible and dishonest TRA I see on SM

It’s striking how reminiscent this thread is of many other threads on this board that involve TWAW types going back and forth with reality-based people. I guess it’s a more common style of argument than I realised.

concernedfriend500 · 23/01/2022 08:20

@Crustypiepants

Completely agree with him on this issue..However, Matt is very anti abortion and is against same sex marriage . He would happily take those rights off us women in a heartbeat!
I agree, he's rabid on so many other issues and it makes me uncomfortable to agree with him on this, but I do. I really wish there were more left-wing personalities who shared his indignation, but too many lefties are in thrall to the TWAW cult.

I think this thread has gone beyond this but saw this on fb.

@CheeseMmmm

Out of interest.

You obviously feel very strongly about a UK woman who you don't know at all,

Who having made the effort to find info about the Man the thread is about.

The man who is from a totally different country. Clearly contraversial in country from. General views are based in USA political environment and discourse. Plus loads of other USA specific cultural historical background. His views beyond extreme to vast majority people here.

A man I've never heard of before on a chat show (!) I've never heard of before.

You seem really taken aback that on having a look. A woman on MN feminism would (also watched the video the thread is about and no I'm not watching more I know more about this man than I ever needed to. And I didn't need to know anything because totally irrelevant in every way to average UK person).

That you're so appalled and taken aback and frankly insulting. By said woman thinking essentially.

No mark random. Zero relevance here. Also, clear utter total unapologetic ville piece of work.

And. Plenty people who aren't utter scumbags who are in UK, relevant, understand our culture etc.

No thanks not for me.

That really makes you feel, unhappy? Angry?

On child rape. Dead girl Vs alive girl. He says dead girl please if saving means termination.

You really can't understand why, given the points above about USA nothing to do with me.

You can't begin to understand why a woman might think that. Other than her being a brainless, thoughtless, hopeless zombie of a person? Or whatever you said. It wasn't exactly complimentary and there was a lot of it!

Why do you give a toss? Why is it such a massive deal to you that I think the dead/alive girl matters in this conversation which you have brought rape into multiple times?

I'm no threat to you. You really can't see why it could actually be perfectly understandable for me to think that, even though you strongly disagree?

I've not tried to change your mind. I've been trying to understand your reasons for Insisting that anyone who doesn't watch this and that and SAY HE'S RIGHT is a total git.

The twisting and manipulation of what has actually been said on this thread, the assigning of evil motives and views which are clearly not held, is breath taking actually. The need to win this discussion no matter what, even if having to actually lie and berate is very telling and reminds me of nothing more than some of the most inflexible and dishonest TRA I see on SM.
nolongersurprised · 23/01/2022 07:30

as I believe the fashion for insistence on purity on All Views All The Time has contributed to the stifling of much needed debate

And it’s odd how some women are still waiting for the left to sort itself out with no evidence whatsoever that they ever will. In fact, in the Uk Labour is all TWAW, with this the position of Keir Starmer down.

LondonWolf · 23/01/2022 07:21

freedom is in serious danger.

Freedom should have said free speech.

LondonWolf · 23/01/2022 07:20

@NotBadConsidering

I googled yes. Because so many threads recently saying X said this aren't they great! X turns out to have views that disaster for women/ be prominent white supremacist etc.

And herein lies your own prejudice. You’re not prepared to listen to or acknowledge the correctness of anyone who doesn’t pass your purity test.

Like I said earlier, loads of this at the moment for 'proof' women who post here all far right extreme religious types

And only you seem bothered by this. The rest of us couldn’t care less if it’s taken as “proof” of anything, because we know our own minds.

In turn, this fuels the actually dangerous practice of constantly messaging to people with trans ID who are ACTUALLY vulnerable, and includes of course children and young people.

We are not responsible for TRAs creating and perpetuating a false narrative that real trans people are under threat from women’s rights supporters who are “aligned with far right fundamentalists” and I have no intention of checking my behaviour or agreement with anyone or anything lest it be appropriated by those activists.

IMO those who start threads for this reason

Are you saying the OP didn’t post in good faith? That’s a significant claim if so.

Saying all who posted on this thread knew what he is about is an assumption and one that is not reasonable.

Even if no one knew who he was or what he said previously, is he, or is he not right on this?

Your views that you have repeated on this thread on the last 24 hours or so Cheese indicate to me the very worst of identity politics and the intolerance and bigotry of the Left: only those with acceptable views on everything are tolerated. At least those on the Right have insight into their bigotry.

Maybe take some time, get your thoughts together, and post clearly in one single post, in full coherent sentences whether he is right or wrong and why you think we should or shouldn’t acknowledge that based on his prior expressions.

I'm increasing irritated and baffled by the posts of a certain poster and came on to say so and explain why but this post already does, so I won't bother to repeat.

Fwiw I knew full well who MW was. I've listened to his podcast on occasion as I like to follow all sides of political discussion on issues which interest and affect me. He's right on this, right on some other issues too actually and then sometimes he goes off about something and I feel I cannot bear to listen to him for a moment longer.

The assumption that we are all silly women who can't possibly have heard of MW - he's from another county you know! - and must have it explained to us repeatedly why we must not be listening to him or appreciating his input, is really rather patronising and insulting @CheeseMmmm. I'm glad though that there's been a discussion around "purity" when it comes to listening to commenters, that's always very useful and actually essential as I believe the fashion for insistence on purity on All Views All The Time has contributed to the stifling of much needed debate on multiple issues and contributed to the current mess we are in where our most unquestionable right to freedom is in serious danger.

IndigoToo · 23/01/2022 06:27

@NotBadConsidering - you have more patience than 10 of me…

NotBadConsidering · 23/01/2022 05:17

You obviously feel very strongly about a UK woman who you don't know at all

No, I just feel strongly about identity politics, which you’re embodying.

Who having made the effort to find info about the Man the thread is about

Which I have no issue with. Good for you, being informed.

The man who is from a totally different country. Clearly contraversial in country from. General views are based in USA political environment and discourse. Plus loads of other USA specific cultural historical background. His views beyond extreme to vast majority people here.

His views on other things maybe, but not trans ideology.

A man I've never heard of before on a chat show (!) I've never heard of before.

Which I find a bit strange, Dr Phil has been around for a long time, on Oprah before getting his own show, but whatever.

You seem really taken aback that on having a look. A woman on MN feminism would (also watched the video the thread is about and no I'm not watching more I know more about this man than I ever needed to. And I didn't need to know anything because totally irrelevant in every way to average UK person).

I’m not taken aback you had a look, I’m taken aback you can’t proffer an opinion simply on the words he said in the multiple clips, because of other things he has said at other times.

That you're so appalled and taken aback and frankly insulting. By said woman thinking essentially.

I have asked you to explain your thinking. You haven’t.

No mark random. Zero relevance here. Also, clear utter total unapologetic ville piece of work.

The first part of this makes zero sense, but the relevance has been explained multiple times, I won’t bother again. Others see this as highly relevant.

And. Plenty people who aren't utter scumbags who are in UK, relevant, understand our culture etc

Start a thread on their views then.

No thanks not for me

Good for you. Why keep returning then?

That really makes you feel, unhappy? Angry?

It makes me annoyed that I am being accused of dismissing someone’s other views just because I agree with one view, being likened to right wing fundamentalists, and being implicated in the perpetuation of TRA trolling propaganda for daring to express my view without considering it might be screenshot. Like pp said, that is a TRA strategy you’re implementing.

On child rape. Dead girl Vs alive girl. He says dead girl please if saving means termination

And I disagree. It’s not hard.

You really can't understand why, given the points above about USA nothing to do with me

So why are you here posting it it’s irrelevant to you?

You can't begin to understand why a woman might think that. Other than her being a brainless, thoughtless, hopeless zombie of a person? Or whatever you said. It wasn't exactly complimentary and there was a lot of it!

No, what I actually can’t understand and haven’t got an answer about is why you can’t offer an opinion on what he actually said.

Why do you give a toss? Why is it such a massive deal to you that I think the dead/alive girl matters in this conversation which you have brought rape into multiple times?

You can bring up what you want, but it has no relevance to what Walsh said on Dr Phil. If you want to know how Walsh’s abortion views fit with Walsh’s views on the Loudoun rapes, ask him.

I'm no threat to you. You really can't see why it could actually be perfectly understandable for me to think that, even though you strongly disagree?

You’re no threat to me, but your way of thinking is a threat to progress in preventing further Loudoun County type scandals happening. The thinking that only the “correct” people with the purest of histories and thoughts can help us. Well, that’s how we got here in the first place, by virtue signalling and ignoring those with concerns because they weren’t the “right” people.

I've not tried to change your mind. I've been trying to understand your reasons for Insisting that anyone who doesn't watch this and that and SAY HE'S RIGHT is a total git.

You won’t change my mind on my view on what he said. He said quite a simple thing and I agree with it. I don’t think anyone who doesn’t say he’s right is a “TOTAL GIT”, I just expect people to explain why they think he’s wrong based on the words he actually said, which I don’t think is a difficult concept.

I have been trying to understand YOUR reasoning for dismissing the words he said. You’ve made it clear it’s because he doesn’t pass your integrity test, purity test, relevance test. You’ve come up with multiple ways of not even addressing the words he said, not even getting to those, because of the barriers you’ve set in between.

Like I said, enlightening.

CheeseMmmm · 23/01/2022 05:02

Tbh it's bedtime.

I think we've gone as far as we can with this, don't you?

For me it's been incredibly interesting. Certainly learnt a lot.

Thank you for the conversation!

Night all :)

CheeseMmmm · 23/01/2022 04:59

'He isn’t in agreement with “feminism”. '

Earlier on it was said his thinking on trans issues was vv much same thought process and outcome etc as feminists. I'm sure that was said.

Why is Feminists in scare quotes?

It's ok. The word doesn't bite. You can use it without fear.

Maybe the stuff about people like me being scared of contamination type situation if look at right wing fundamental Christian USA stuff. Projection?

It's ok. I am SURE you can't catch Feminism!

CheeseMmmm · 23/01/2022 04:56

Thinking a bit more.

Given that he's stated that the only way to prove rape is to get pregnant by rapist and have the baby.

And plus his big interest in false rape accusations.

He certainly didn't stick to his beliefs with the Loudoun situation did he.

Seems he's somewhat flexible then, when it's going to help something else he believes which he's really into at that point.

CheeseMmmm · 23/01/2022 04:53

@NotBadConsidering

Having said that, I imagine asking Walsh “had the girl raped in the Loudoun school bathroom got pregnant as a result, do you think she should have been allowed to get an abortion?” would get a more articulate response than asking Cheese “do you agree with what Walsh said on Dr Phil?”
His response to that question about his hypothetical victim on incest was clear enough.

*about, not Labour. Labour are TRAs

nolongersurprised · 23/01/2022 04:27

I'm interested in the ability to compartmentalise here

It’s quite easy, and similar to my approach to people in real life. There is no one I share 100% beliefs with.

I agree with Matt Walsh Labour the harms of trans ideology.

I disagree with Matt Walsh about abortion.

NotBadConsidering · 23/01/2022 04:25

No, I don’t need to compartmentalise because I do indeed see the cross over between those two scenarios. And indeed it would be an interesting question to put to Walsh, how he squares that circle. You should ask HIM how he compartmentalises those thoughts. What boxes does HE have. That’s nothing to do with my thought process.

Because that is not the same as me agreeing with what he said on Dr Phil.

I don’t need to square Walsh’s circle for him, or to appease you. He said something I agree with. I don’t need to explain Walsh’s internal logic to justify my agreement.

ItsLateHumpty · 23/01/2022 04:23

You didn't seem at all surprised by that tweet I posted.

I wasn’t.

I know you think he's great.

Do I?

That is your assumption. It is your blind spot. And you’ve just told me what my beliefs are.
You’re sounding the same to me as the TRAs who trawl MN to put words in other peoples mouths to prove MN posters are right wing fundamentalists.

Nice.

CheeseMmmm · 23/01/2022 04:17

I'm interested in the ability to compartmentalise here.

When it comes to girls who are raped.

Do you sort of have

One box.
Girl subjected to sexual violence In school. Not pregnant. Rapist could/might/ has trans ID. (Last one due to lack of answer about rape in schools generally.)
Totally to do with trans topic.

Another box.
Girl sexually abused by father. Pregnant.
Girl raped in school. Pregnant.
Girl needs life saving termination.
Not anything to do with trans topic.

Is that the idea?
