Stumbled accross this on twitter. Matt Walsh, an American political commentator is on a chat show and confronts transactivist to define a woman and tells him that he is appropriating womanhood.

Then after being told that he has 'traumatised' the activists... He provides this response!!

Wow. He says sh*t straight.... Haha!

If this concerns you go talk to your pals
Pals? Hmm
Are you MW's pals just because you agree with him on this point?
It's all just such fucked up - '' people who support trans rights or campaign for them are all in cahoots and pals!''
Er, no.

IndigoToo · 23/01/2022 14:26

You are promoting an extremist who is part of a movement that seeks to destroy every gain feminism has made over the last century. A movement that is prepared to use violence to meet those ends.

This is already happening, though - there is already a movement that is seeking to destroy every gain feminism/women have made over the last century. It is being run by the TRAs, supported by their allies, and the violence and extreme actions are already being used to force acquiescence to their demands.

Ahoyashipg · 23/01/2022 14:25

@allmywhat

It's a recruitment exercise for the extreme conservative right

Then maybe trans activists should stop giving the likes of Matt Walsh the opportunity to score cheap and easy points by appearing like the most reasonable and well-adjusted person in the room.

TRAs are the best recruiters the right wing could possibly ask for. If this concerns you, and it should, go talk to your pals. Inform them that people don't like it when you advocate for putting rapists into women's prisons.

Well said.
EeeICouldRipATissue · 23/01/2022 14:25

Completely agree @barleybadminton

Are you in the States, @barleybadminton?

barleybadminton · 23/01/2022 14:10

@nolongersurprised

Why so excited about this chap?

Because he is an effective speaker and had a large audience and stepped out of his bubble to do so. More people have been made aware of the dangers of trans ideology through him.
This is good.

I don’t see many from the left clamouring to do the same, do you?

And more people will have listened to him and been impressed and then listened to his other views and some may have been converted. That's why he's doing it. It's a recruitment exercise for the extreme conservative right at a time when reproductive rights are under serious threat in many states in the US. And by posting this clip you are helping them. You are helping people who think it's legitimate to bomb abortion clinics. You are helping people who want to criminalise lesbian and gay relationships. You are helping people who believe in racial hierarchies.

The BNP opposed the Iraq war but you didn't see antiwar activists cheering on Nick Griffens speeches on the matter and saying well I don't agree with him on that other stuff but everyone should listen to this. And the reason for that is these people are very dangerous and if they ever achieve real power will destroy the lives of women and LGBT people and people of colour. It's not some big online game where you're trying to gather as many people as possible to agree with you on a single issue. This is real life and real lives. We saw that after what happened at the Capitol or the numerous terrorist attacks on reproductive healthcare providers. By amplifying these voices and laundering them through gender critical feminism you are supporting them in their wider aims. You are promoting an extremist who is part of a movement that seeks to destroy every gain feminism has made over the last century. A movement that is prepared to use violence to meet those ends. And believe me, if they ever manage to get near power then trans women in changing rooms will be the least of women's worries. Do you really want to be a part of helping make that happen?

Yes, that deletion implies that you are obliged to read all the ramblings thread.

All posters are equal but some posters are more equal than others.

Wow, that was a fast deletion! I'm not sure why what you said was a problem, either.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 23/01/2022 13:42

Done the same, @sacredfeminina. Some people aren't nearly as clever as they think they are.

Including Matt Walsh.

@AdamRyan

If someone was saying squares are circles, and someone like Walsh was saying that isn’t true, squares are squares, it’s incomprehensible to me that people would spend an inordinate amount of time anguishing over whether they could agree with him about squares being squares because of his previous views on anything My point is there are a lot of people saying squares are squares so we don't have to fangirl everyone who says squares are squares. I think he's unpleasant and the way he presents his "squares are squares" view is unnecessarily hostile.
I think the utility is that having people from all across the political and ethical-belief perspective is that it reinforces the fact that the genderist position, as so poorly articulated in the clip in the OP is the extremist, incoherent, damaging opinion. Unpleasant people believe that sex matters, and some of them are rude and confrontational, which is to be expected because vast swathes of people believe that it matters, as it’s based on a truth about the world.

I don’t see many posters here fangirling him. Most posters have done the opposite, haven’t they?

For myself, I don’t have much of a clue what his beliefs are on anything, but that’s fine. The point that notbad and others are so patiently hammering away on is that it doesn’t matter and it’s actively damaging to engage in all or nothing thinking that says that it does.

I only post that as an alternative to the we only agree with him on this issue stance, which to me can appear the new orthodoxy and acceptable position.

MalagaNights · 23/01/2022 12:17

I agree with him on the Trans issue AND on some other stuff!! 😯😯
And I think he's funny.

Imagine that. If you can.

I think some things he thinks would lead to better outcomes for many women than the typical feminist position on here.

My views have changed from a few years ago as I've listened to a wider range of opinions. It's been uncomfortable but I'd recommend it.

I won't get into what they are as this thread isn't about that but if you want to start a thread about it I'll join in.
@NotBadConsidering you deserve a medal!

Cheese, I cannot make head nor tail of your posts, and the lack of definite articles, full sentences etc and the sheer length and number of them make it impossible to parse their meaning effectively. I’ve held my tongue previously, because god knows we don’t need friendly fire, but much as you are concerned about screenshots being taken out of context where people say they agree with MW on this one topic, have you ever thought about what a screenshot of your input could be used for in the wrong hands? Maybe think of that before you accuse others here of tacitly endorsing unsavoury people, and enabling TRAs.
Thanks Sophocles.

I had typed out a similar post and deleted it.

The discussion around screenshotting seems to be missing the point that anyone wanting screenshots will either take any post out of context and post OR they will just create their own posts to screenshot.

Sophoclesthefox · 23/01/2022 10:42

Sorry 😬

NotBadConsidering · 23/01/2022 10:38

Thanks but please, no more

etc

I don’t think I can take it!🤣🤣

That particular person in the Dr Phil clip sounds very similar to Chaz Bono, very similar voices.

nolongersurprised · 23/01/2022 09:22

It was the part about the awkward silence during the ad break. Cringey.

As an aside, I read something a detrans FtMtF said about how testosterone for women seems to create a “Donald Duck” voice which I’m sure isn’t always true, but was for the “gender fluid trans masc” guest on the Dr Phil show.

NotBadConsidering · 23/01/2022 09:11

@nolongersurprised

I don’t want to like him because, overall, I’d disagree with him more than I agree, but he was funny too. Grin
You laughed? How very dare you? When are you getting your swastika tattoo nolongersurprised? Presumably you also want 12 year olds DEAD too, you monster? 😉

Being serious, he makes (another) good point about truth. If someone was saying squares are circles, and someone like Walsh was saying that isn’t true, squares are squares, it’s incomprehensible to me that people would spend an inordinate amount of time anguishing over whether they could agree with him about squares being squares because of his previous views on anything. As a past poster said, the truth exists, and is what it is regardless who says it.
