Got a work email from a CEO of a health organisation and she had
"name"
"CEO (any pronoun)"

at the end of it. Am feeling very cheered by this.

'No' is awesome

donquixotedelamancha · 19/01/2022 21:55

if you're imagining this means they endorse your anti-trans views

@BlueberryCheezecake Why is telling people to announce their pronouns in a work setting 'pro-trans'?

Awkwardy · 19/01/2022 21:07

All this spittle-flecked outrage must be exhausting for you Blueberry. Why don't you have a sit down?

ArabellaScott · 19/01/2022 21:05

@generaljake

That’s pretty good. I was chairing a seminar today and was asked if they could add my pronouns. I said no. I was the only speaker/panellist without them. Wish I’d said (whatever you like).
'no' is a good response, imho.
BlueberryCheezecake · 19/01/2022 19:50

Sorry to break it to you, but many trans/non-binary people use any pronouns so if you're imagining this means they endorse your anti-trans views, you're likely mistaken.

I think 'no' was exactly right in that context.

I dunno. I can see points in favour and points against. At least saying 'any pronoun' emphasises that calling someone by the wrong pronoun isn't literal violence. Maybe she shpuld have put: 'Pronouns.... well, I'm a woman - i.e. adult human female, so 'she' and 'her' are correct, but I won't try and cancel you if you get it wrong'. That's a bit of a mouthful though Grin.

generaljake · 19/01/2022 18:51

Hmm. Ok. Point taken.

CloseYourEyesAndSee · 19/01/2022 18:41

How is this good?
I don't expect 'any pronouns' I expect the correct pronoun. I'm a woman and expect the correct pronoun not any pronoun.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 19/01/2022 18:38

I am not sure that "any pronoun" is necessarily supportive. It is not uncommon to go down that route if you believe in gender identity. It also has "pronouns aren't important", "why all the fuss" vibes about it, while simultaneously supporting the idea of a complete social change on the conventions on how we address people. I don't like it.

Linguini · 19/01/2022 18:33

Well maybe, so long as the health organisation they are CEO for actually recognises women and girls, I don't mind how they signal their affiliation or non-affiliation of the pronoun principle.
