Got a work email from a CEO of a health organisation and she had
"name"
"CEO (any pronoun)"

at the end of it. Am feeling very cheered by this.

My take on it was "my employers insist on this pronoun stuff. Personally, IDGAF"

Actually, maybe I'll put "my pronouns are IDGAF/DFOD" on mine.

I for one am not bothered about whether this is a TRA or GC thing. What is shows is that they are not willing to police other peoples language in an authoritarian manner, which is all that matters here.

@CrumpetShaw

I like "any pronoun", to me it reads that the CEO is saying, it's up to you, the person speaking to me. Which for me is the point really, pronouns belong to the person speaking or writing - they are part of their language
You are absolutely right, of course, but I don't thing that including "any pronouns" supports that view. The drive to declare pronouns is part of the attempt to replace sex as the way in which we categorise people with gender identity. If declaring pronouns was a choice people were making to avoid being missexed (perhaps because it is an uncommon name or a unisex name) or to let other people know that they would prefer that people regard them/use pronouns that are opposite to the sex that they are, then I might feel differently, but this phenomenon is not occuring in that environment.

Aw, flowers? For me? You angel x

DoubleTweenQueen · 20/01/2022 12:01

@HaroldMeeker You are so kind and thoughtful of others Flowers

Blueberry, sweetie, you sound like you need a drink and a sit down. All this screeching must be raising your blood pressure. Chamomile tea is excellent for relaxing the nerves.

@BlueberryCheezecake

Sorry to break it to you, but many trans/non-binary people use any pronouns so if you're imagining this means they endorse your anti-trans views, you're likely mistaken.
That is not on, @BlueberryCheezecake.

I don't have anti-trans views. To accuse me of this is not acceptable.

You tend to post reactionary comments. Are you perhaps muddling me up with someone on Reddit?

Increasingly, you can't sign up for healthcare related training without declaring your pronouns. They're mandatory and you can't get the CPD/whatever without them.

It moved from personal choice to optional to compelled very quickly.

Putting aside the fact that no one here is 'anti-trans' but rather pro-women, we are allowed to centre ourselves in our own liberation movement, what on earth have the pronoun brigade got to do with the protected characteristic of trans which was meant to (and indeed does) cover about 5000 people with a GRC and a few more who are genuinely on the gender reassignment pathway? Your mission creep is not welcomed by anyone.
PaleGreenGhost · 20/01/2022 09:46

I quite like this and would consider using if pressurised to put something. To me it acknowledges the pressure, assures the reader they have indeed attended re-education camp, and truthfully there are more important issues than pronouns.

I would also quite like this if a trans person used it too. Why wouldn't I? I know our plopping misogynists like to imply that all trans people are out of control woman-haters but I know that's not true. Just as not all religious people are fundamentalists. I'm extremely tolerant of different beliefs. It's the one good thing about living in London imo. The problem I have with any belief system is when it becomes extreme and leads to actions and demands that harm others. This tends to happen when the extreme beliefs intersect with power ie male /white /private school /University educated /police force /politician /journalist.

The irony (paradox?) was that this was a conference focused on diversity, one of my main critiques of which as an agenda is that it sometimes encourages acceptance of rules and norms which are not always that progressive. As I say, I was the only speaker/panellist not to use pronouns out of about 30. I wonder if anyone noticed. Fortunately, it didn't make me feel less included Smile.

NotBadConsidering · 20/01/2022 09:08

@crazyjinglist

I (pronoun!) am happy to use any pronouns in my (pronoun!)

Ahem. 'My' is a possessive adjective, not a pronoun.

Well, it may have been previously, but now you’re point out my mistake I am demanding that “my” is a proper possessive pronoun from now on and if you disagree that’s literature violence.
ANameChangeAgain · 20/01/2022 09:04

The buzz you put into screeching "transphobia " as often as you do could power a small town for a week. ha ha, this could solve a few green energy issues?

I am cheered by "any pronoun", I am also cheered by no, they, she, he. The problem with having to announce your pronouns is that everyone (see above) will over think and over analyse your response. If you don't play along then you are sending a message of either not showing solidarity with women, not showing solidarity with transwoman, or opening in yourself up to sexism. We can't win, which is why the announcing of pronouns needs to stop. I would have just deleted anything under my name and position.

Tell me how the he'll you've come to the conclusion this is anti trans? How?

Jeez Blueberry I really hope you invest this degree of time and energy into supporting women and girls too. The buzz you put into screeching "transphobia " as often as you do could power a small town for a week.

Grin me too

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 20/01/2022 08:51

I have very strong feelings about the misuse of reflexive pronouns. To wit, stop it.

NotBadConsidering · 20/01/2022 08:40

I (⬅️pronoun!) am happy to use any pronouns in my (⬅️pronoun!) speech: relative, demonstrative, personal, indefinite, object, and so on, and so on.

There are so many different types. Their (⬅️pronoun!) use is determined by the conversation, governed by rules of English language.

Imagine a particular group of people who felt that other types of pronouns needed to change and we (⬅️pronoun!) all had to obey lest they (⬅️pronoun!) get upset. It (⬅️pronoun!) would be unsustainable. So why are we (⬅️pronoun!) caving to the demands of anyone (⬅️pronoun!) regarding particular personal, possessive and object pronouns?

KittenKong · 20/01/2022 08:23

Well I saw someone on twitter announcing theirs as ‘clown’ and I don’t think they were joking…

I am pleased to hear that many trans/non-binary people use any pronouns, as that means they are willing to utter a variety of pronouns in conversation, appropriate to the situation.

However, I'm a trifle intrigued by the implication that the remainder are only willing to utter specific pronouns. Does that mean they refuse to use neopronouns about others? Grin

FeckTheMagicDragon · 20/01/2022 06:36

I said ‘no’ again this week. No one had a conniption or threatened suicide. It was all quite banal to be honest. 😊
