www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-10382291/Did-Hertfordshire-Police-force-break-uniform-code-transgender-trailblazer.html

One rule for women and another for transgender women.

Having long green nails and heavy makeup, breaches Hertfordshire Police Forces uniform policy, unless of course you're trans! Then you can do what you like to "feel like a woman".

Doesn't come across that way on this thread
Ok, but I really can't.
Couldn't give a toss whether police women wear make up or not.
Never even really noticed.
On the other hand you have people up in arms because how come you get to wear make up and I don't?
It's just make up.
Maybe it's because I never wear it but I don't care if trans women wear it or not.

Squirrel!?!?!?!

It's make up! Seriously, I cannot get worked up over how much make up someone does or doesn't wear.

It is clear they are longer than the finger in the picture on that article. Particularly if you look at the hand under the other hand.

Perhaps you just cannot see it.

NoNotMeNoSiree · 09/01/2022 14:41

But I would absolutely bet you would notice if you suffered an injury while being handled by a police officer with long nails
You can't tell from the photo how long her nails are.
The problem for some is that bright nail polish and make up is being worn.
Now there's nails that are long and could get ripped off?
There's no indication they're long nails at all.
You can just see green polish.

It comes down to policing women's appearances at the end of the day

Well no…it comes down to the police policing the appearance of the police

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 09/01/2022 14:21

Your choices, preferences are as important as anyone elses. As in not in the slightest.

There is a dress code.

Every police officer abides by it, every time they are on duty.

The question you are refusing to answer is why is a transwomen exempt form the rules every other officer complies with.

All the bleating about policing women is so fucking ridiculous. Insultingly so. Like you imagine anyone reading your supposed argument has had their brains removed, replaced with a pumpkin!

It's the job. The dress code for EVERYONE!

And I repeat, a police force needs to be easily recognised by consistent cues in emergency situations I have honestly never took notice of what a police officers nails looks like before. Hardly a pressing matter in an emergency situation.
You are coming up with every swerve tactic imaginable to avoid answering the question as to why this particular officer is allowed to flout the rules when any other police officer would not be, why is that?
VelvetChairGirl · 09/01/2022 13:46

@CheeseMmmm

What is interesting is the essential difference in the underlying social stuff.

Female officers can't decorate like that.
Why? Need to give impression serious, means business, don't try any shit with me fellas. I'm a police officer who happens to be female. I have authority and if you forget that police officer first then you're screwed.

How many female officers who out sharp end, would choose to have fancy nails and strong makeup?

I met an ex SO19 woman once.
I'm not sure that painted nails and makeup would go without MASSIVE (more interesting than her skills etc) media and public commentary about the nails (negative).

She quit because of constant daily sexist vile bullying.

And trust me she was nails. Just who you want doing that sort of thing.

I was always under the impression it was also for safety so it would be harder to identify the sex of an officer from a distance to try and minimize the arsehole cowards who would make a bee line to the female officer because they think they can beat her up/intimidate her/take her hostage. obviously talking about before they all had tazers ans stuff, but its pretty much always been the case.

and in other places too, school rules, army, CPS etc.

Just like I would also expect that nails like that would make that officer prone to injury themselves. Imagine the potential of tearing off nails in a chase, or simply handling equipment.

Really, it is not that hard.

Cherry appears to have shot Cherryself in the foot. Either TWs are women or they are not. By not adhering to the rules for women officers, Cherry is clearly showing that they are not.

It comes down to policing women's appearances at the end of the day.

Yeah sure. So organisations should suspend all their dress codes to allow people to wear whatever they want, have whatever body decoration visible so people have their absolute personal freedom…. Or….. any person who feels this dress code is oppressive can just not join that organisation. Because after all, a police force needs to be seen as inspiring trust and calm via an appearance that can be easily identified as a police person vs some dressed up in a fake uniform.

Where does it leave trans women?

Being treated like, you know, women who they identify as.

Don't wear make up, there'd probably be a thread on here complaining she was looking too manly or something.

If any transioned male looks ‘manly’, that is their issue to deal with. Not a police force to accommodate by removing the code of conduct and dress to make them feel like something that is not supposed to be based on stereotypes.

It's not about safety here, is it.

Yes. Having nails that length would be an issue I would expect. And I repeat, a police force needs to be easily recognised by consistent cues in emergency situations.

It's about what you '' should'' look like.

Yes. That is what dress codes are all about. If you don’t like the dress code of organisation you work for, you have the freedom to leave it.

Yes, it's make up and there are Dress Code rules around it for every other Police Officer, so again, for you Cherry gets to flout the rules every other Police Officer has to abide by, why is that?
VestofAbsurdity · 09/01/2022 13:28

Don't wear make up, there'd probably be a thread on here complaining she was looking too manly or something.

There's a reason why Cherry would look manly, can you think what that might be? Anyway, aren't we always being told that being trans has absolutely nothing to do with mimicking the stereotypes of the other sex, are you now admitting that that is exactly what it is?

NoNotMeNoSiree · 09/01/2022 13:27

VestofAbsurdity · 09/01/2022 13:25

Where does it leave transwomen?

Abiding by the same rules that apply to everyone else is where it leaves them, are you suggesting they are a sacred caste that must have special treatment and that the rules that apply to others shouldn't apply to them?

Yes, women might not be able to wear lots of make up and nail polish.

No Police officer is allowed to except, it seems, Cherry and that is discrimination.

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 09/01/2022 13:18

This.

What is the issue with emergency services and uniforms, dress codes?

Why should transwomen be exempt?

Incoherent brain dump Grin Ok to be fair it was very late/early and I could have been a bit clearer, that'll learn me to MN after midnight after a few wines Grin
So what did smack your funny bone?

The issue is pretty clear. Police have allowed one officer to flout uniform rules and many people are asking why?

If it is because that officer is trans then there are many reasons why it is not acceptable.

If that is not the reason then why?

Why is that one person exceptional?
