A thread created in response to a post on another thread.

Any advice gratefully received

@simmonslulu

The slu is reference to it being suggested in an earlier thread now deleted that I had cunningly added lu to Simmons to imply slu short for slut. That I was having a secret laugh at the expense of women generally and MN posters in particular by displaying in open sight my misogyny and true motivations for posting on MN.

Imagine the mental somersaults one would have to go through to take a simple abbreviation of a name and make it a misogynist slur.

You're being a bit aggressive.

If someone notices that your name contains a word that is sometimes a slur, it is natural for them to wonder. And far better for them to ask, rather than simply silently assuming the worst.

OhHolyJesus · 06/01/2022 19:11

Why was the last thread deleted?

@CloseYourEyesAndSee

On a micro level Don't use womens spaces. Make a point of using the mens loos and widen the bandwidth of male behaviour, appearance and clothing by being yourself in male spaces. On a societal level, write. Get help if you aren't a gifted writer but write and get your views all out there wherever you can.
For your own safety's sake don't use the men's. Stupid advice.
PurgatoryOfPotholes · 06/01/2022 18:33

Unbelievable, my name is luiza shortened to lu if I was trying to make a cunning point I would have changed it to simmonsSlu.
Perhaps you would now have the courtesy to apologise?

What would SimmonSlu mean? Is it a song?

Can someone explain what is going on here, preferably without cryptic tone indicators?

OhHolyJesus · 06/01/2022 18:00

No.

senua · 06/01/2022 17:47

Yes to encouraging men to include you in their spaces and normalise male spaces for gender nonconformists.
I think that you should major on this. Transwomen have nothing to fear from women. Your problem is the same as women's problem viz aggressive men.
In this age of soundbites you need a catchy slogan. I suggest #BeMankind. Reasonable people of either sex can get behind this. It's about time that men were asked to #BeKind instead of it being women all the time.

@Justkeeppedaling

transitioning should be restricted to adults of sound mind. There should be a clear CAVEAT EMPTOR this will not change your sex but it may allow you (as in my case) to live more easily in your skin.

Now I could live with this. I can accept men dressing as women, and having operations to make them look more like women (and women > men). This does not make them actual women or men though, and as such trans women/men should not be included in cometitions under the sex they look like, but rather, under their natal sex. This includes all types of competition: physical/sporting, literary, career achievement such as"first female CEO" or "first woman on the front line" etc etc.
Nor should trans people be imprisoned as per their chosen sex.

Agreed, I am proud to be a transwoman.

@EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn

What I'd like to see is transpeople leading a campaign highlighting the unfairness of their being excluded from the correct facilities for their sex, just because of how they identify. 'Widening the bandwidth of what it means to be a man', to paraphrase Alex Drummond.

And asking male trans allies like Owen Jones & the fox-killer to push for greater inclusiveness so that all prostate-havers, regardless of gender identity or surgery, feel safe in male toilets, changing rooms etc. They could use #YouCanPeeWithMe.

Just tweeted #youcanpeewithme and #womenstoletsareonlyforwomen

Great idea!

1)Keep calling yourself a transwoman. Do not call yourself a woman.

  1. Respect women’s spaces, fight for separate transwomen’s spaces.

  2. Live your life honestly and be kind to us, we don’t hate you despite the hate that is poured on us.

WorriedMumsDontSleep · 06/01/2022 16:08

Creation of trans leagues and sports categories, particularly in sports like roller derby which are being destroyed by trans competitors. Starting at a local level, but would need to take into account sex based difference and safety based on this. Looking at sports like korfball developed to offset sex differences for example.
Especially important for trans men who can't take part in the female category if they are doping.

Being honest and calling for research into the effect of cross sex hormones over a long period of time, particularly with regard to the huge cohort of younger women identifying as trans.

Being clear with young people that stereotypes do not mean they are trans and that most gender non conforming people are not trans and do not require surgery.

It also causes people to dislike and mistrust transwomen as a whole whatever their individual views on the matter.

I do think that's a real shame as well because women in general previously would have been strong allies with transwomen but the aggression of TRA's over the last few years have forced women to harden in order to face the issues

Tell Stonewall.

Also, what does your username mean? 👀

What does your username mean? My name was also explained in the last thread you refer to which you have clearly not bothered to check. Far from being an issue for me your posts show far more about you and your outlook on life and other MN users.

I agree - talk to stonewall.

I have banged on about this a few times now. But if all the ‘reasonable’ trans people contacted Stonewall as a group and told them that they no longer represented them (and joined another support group at the same time that did suit them) it would send a powerful message. Considering we are told they are the majority by numerous posters.

OhHolyJesus · 06/01/2022 09:42

@Scraggythang

OP cleared their user name up in the last thread. Their name is Luiza. And I imagine first name Simmons.
Ah ok thanks - but still, I think comments in the last thread (now deleted?) were an indication of their position on relevant matters.

Those who engage can check posting history and decide for themselves.

EmpressaurusWitchDoesntBurn · 06/01/2022 09:42

@WandaWomblesaurus73

Debbie Hayton could offer some advice perhaps if someone could link Debbie's username?
If Dr Hayton does join this thread, then perhaps he'll comment on the NASUWT guidelines he wrote which state that male teachers should be allowed to use women's toilets (even if they're just crossdressing at a staff party) and that children should call them Miss. A lot of FWR posters would like to know whether he still stands by this or whether he's going to update his advice.
Scraggythang · 06/01/2022 09:38

Sorry. Last name Simmons.

Most of all, be prepared to take a lot of flack.

Go and talk to your MP if there are specific legislative proposals you don't agree with

Write to newspapers in support if they publish something you agree with

Talk to people you know in real life about the issues, especially men. Speak up if someone is trying to speak for you (especially non-trans TRAs) and you don't agree

Set an example to other transwomen by declining to use women's spaces/resources
