Eddie Izzard….has he reverted back to male ID

Just watching Stay Close, 1st episode, and it has Eddie Izzard being a man. This seems at odds with his spouting of ‘I’ve always known I am a woman’ bullshit.

This got me thinking that I’ve not heard much about his womanly feelings or Sam ‘pratface’ Smith either. Have they backtracked a bit?

Poor Eddie was the victim of those powerful cruel schoolgirls.

Waitwhat23 How do you know that is what happened? Where did you source this information. He was also 23 (a very long time ago). I too, when younger used male toilets when the ladies was full. I wouldn't do it now (too smelly) but when I was younger I didn't care so much.
We know that's what happened because he said so.

And when I finally came out of the cubicle, they shouted, “Hey, mate! Hey, mister! Why are you wearing makeup? Why are you dressed as a woman?”
...
I shouted back, “You want to know why I’m wearing a dress? I’ll tell you why.”

But before I could say anything else, the girls just screamed and ran off in the other direction.

They challenged him, he shouted at them, scaring them. They ran away.

I do worry about those of you who can’t grasp the fact that there’s no symmetry between the sexes when it comes to these situations.

Is a young woman in the gents any kind of a threat to the men there? Obviously not.
If anyone’s running any kind of risk, it’s the young woman.

Is an adult man a potential threat to teenage girls in the women’s toilets? Yes, of course he is. Have you heard of #metoo and Everyone’s Invited, by any chance? Seen any of the stats on the ubiquity of male sexual harassment and assault EVERYWHERE?

If you are in that tiny minority of women who’ve never experienced any form of it, have you never spoken/listened to any other women on the subject? Are you aware of basic biological realities that mean it’s within the ability of most men to overpower a woman or girl if they so choose, and not within the ability of most women or girls to effectively defend themselves against a determined, predatory man?

Or are you one of those reality deniers who think that women could fend off a man twice their size and weight if they just tried a bit harder?

None of which is to say that EI is a predator. But the fact is he’s very, very obviously male, and to those girls at that time he was an unknown quantity, so his presence in the women’s toilets would have been unnerving for those girls in a way your presence in the men’s toilets would never have been for the men in there.

Because they don’t live with the knowledge of being physically relatively vulnerable to the opposite sex. Whereas women do. The vast majority of women factor this vulnerability into the plans they make when out and about alone. Men don’t experience physical vulnerability relative to women in the same way at all.

I can’t believe this stuff has to be spelled out, or even said at all. Are we also going to have to write long theses proving that water is wet, that people cannot survive without food and water, that it’s light in the daytime and dark at night, before anyone will accept the validity of those concepts?

Oh, and he wasn’t using the women’s toilets because the men’s were full. He was appropriating a women only space for himself because he felt entitled to. Because he could. Because it felt good to him. It was what he wanted to do. Not out of any need and a structurally unequal lack of male toilet provision - because that particular structural inequality, like so many others, doesn’t impact men: it only impacts women.

I always thought Izzard was a transvestite not a transexual 😳 I must have missed about a decade of his most recent life 😂

RoaringtoLangClegintheDark · 04/01/2022 23:45

Eddie Izzard has never said "I've always known I was a woman" or anything similar.
He isn't a trans woman and has never claimed to be one.

Oops.

Not been doing your homework, Blueberry? You’ll fail your Grand Inquisitor/Master Oppressor final exam if you carry on like that.

And then you’ll have to rely on just your bog standard male privilege to keep on oppressing biologically female people as much as you like.

Wht do you think girls should do when they encounter a man in their toilets? I am teaching my DD that she should scream loudly and do anything she can to attract attention.

Waitwhat23 · 04/01/2022 19:18

@PhoenixIsFlying

So I have now read that when EI was 23 he had his first outing out as a woman. He went in a public loo to quickly change and 3 girls followed him out of the loo taunting him about why he was dressed as a woman. ?
Not quite what happened. He used a single sex toilet, was challenged by the teenage girls using the toilet as to why he (a male) was using a female toilet and he (a grown male) screamed at them (teenage girls) until they were so frightened they ran away.

He's not the hero of that story.

candycane222 · 04/01/2022 18:41

Thanks for that link LangCleg. The commentary does quite nicely point up a certain self-absorption on the part of EI doesn't it?

How lovely to pick and choose which bits of womanhood you can be bothered with.

Absolutely. I used to like Izzard's gender-bending clothes, but he disgusted me by boasting about scaring off three 13-year-old girls who had the courage to challenge him after he used a women's toilet. I was astonished by how perfectly justified he felt in invading their space, and how heroic he felt after chasing them away.

…serious or heavyweight enough for the discussion about it now, I meant to say.

IntermittentParps · 04/01/2022 16:19

@xfgdhfgnhkk007

I remember him always using the word transvestite too, I wonder why it's fallen out of favour these days? Did they drop it because 'trans' covers everything without having to be specific?
I think it has connotations of the 'panto dame' iteration of the concept – Edna Everage, Les Dawson's 'women', Barbara in League of Gentlemen etc – and perhaps isn't seen as serious or heavyweight enough?
LightningJenny · 04/01/2022 15:28

@Littlewhiteballs

Can I identify as a man for career purposes? 🤔
Honestly, if I was brave enough...

@dworky

He's very impressive. He not only manages to be in 'boy mode' for lucrative acting roles but knows in advance of the date when the film actually shoots. He's able to see into the future!
Yep. Eddie Izzard is female when it suits her and male when he's working in a business that pays women less than men. I've no time for him any more, not since he did an interview in the Guardian essentially laughing/jeering at people who were surprised when he came out as gender-fluid because apparently it was 'always blindingly obvious' because he'd been wearing dresses and make-up for years. As my DP pointed out, it's interesting that he actually used to use the word 'transvestite' and only started on the trans/gender-fluid thing once it seemed that the trans movement was well known and somewhat supported in mainstream society. Rather than sticking his neck out early and possibly being a valuable high-profile spokesperson for trans people.
ChequerBoard · 04/01/2022 14:22

@Pumpkinstace

If he played a transwoman he would be accused of being typecast (or similar)

If he played a woman people would complain that he isn't a woman.

Eddie can't win because people are judgemental arseholes most of the time

Eddie Redmayne was very heavily criticised for daring to play a transwoman in The Danish Girl.

Why is it OK for Eddie as a transwoman to play male roles but not OK for a man to play a transwoman??

Either anyone can play anything or everyone must stay in their lane.

RepentMotherfucker · 04/01/2022 14:22

Sure. If Eddie Izzard played a TW we would all 'accuse' him of being typecast. Because that is absolutely a thing that happens and not a thing people complain about when it happens to them Hmm

And the problem with Eddie shouting at a group of teenage girls (I think he said they were around 15 years old) in a Women's toilet is that people are judgemental arseholes? Eddie certainly thought so. Is that your view?
