I guess they at least note her absence. But can’t help say ‘widely considered as transphobic’. Just why? Why say anything.

Here is a thread on a reddit titled "Why do people consider JKR transphobic" in the Too Afraid To Ask section. www.reddit.com/r/TooAfraidToAsk/comments/nqio9m/why_do_people_consider_jk_rowling_transphobic/

I've not yet read all the way through, but I think that some posters have explained their reasons for their beliefs in an insightful way whilst providing some quotes either by JKR herself, things she has promoted etc etc. I have absolutely no clue if you can access it without having an account so please let me know if thats the case and I'll screenshot.

Blackbird1234 · 04/01/2022 14:54

I'm still going through posts but I've found one where the poster seems to explain why they consider JKR transphobic and I find that they made some good points that they seem to resonate with. (Not saying I agree with them, I'm saying they seem to have explained their thoughts well, not perfectly). Should I post a photo, or copy/paste?

Shedmistress · 04/01/2022 14:48

[quote KimikosNightmare]I'll help Blackbird out. I googled Paris Lees and J K Rowling. I don't follow Lees in any great detail but I'm not aware of Lees ever tweeting anything hateful.

Lol.

Be kind or I'll blow your fucking brains out.

Blackbird1234 · 04/01/2022 14:48

Kimikos - I don't see how that "helps me out", have I missed something or were you being sarcastic? Genuine question.

Sophoclesthefox - Yes, I 100% agree with you that it is easy, I haven't at all said that JKR is transphobic, personally. I merely said that some of the things I have seen written against JKR hold weight in the mind of that person, but is constantly rebutted by JKR supporters for being not good enough. I don't agree with the people saying JKR is 100% transphobic "because". But I do see why some people feel that the things she has said have contributed, based on what they have written. I've finished sewing so will continue to find posts from people who dont support JKR but who got their thoughts across in a valid (in my opinion) way.

Sophoclesthefox · 04/01/2022 14:47

If someone brings me really good evidence that disproves something I believe in, I’m open to it. Even if my final position is “I see how you got there, but I still disagree”. Bit hard to do that though without the evidence being presented…

At risk of sounding dismissive. I am not seeing anything much of substance in the linked times article, I have to say, as Lees has missed the point out of the gate that Rowling is weighing in on womens issues, by insisting that she has strayed outside her lane. Lees doesn’t engage with what Rowling said, just that her saying it was upsetting and unecessary.

Sophoclesthefox · 04/01/2022 14:42

The conversation then moved on and my point was that even if an insightful post against JKR was posted by someone, the people standing with JKR probably wouldn't agree with it or deem it insightful/valid enough, because of their own opinion. That was my entire point, that if you're on one side, you're probably not going to think that something the other side says is valid or accept their arguments, so I don't think it's right to say that there has never ever ever been a "good" post against JKR that the supporters would find "good enough"

Well, OK, but the point I’m making is that it is much, much easier to decide if there is a “good enough” reason to traduce JKR for her “transphobia” if people who think there is weight in the accusation would explain how they came to that viewpoint by highlighting her alleged transphobia!

If your position is that you can’t post evidence because it will be dissected and found wanting, then you can’t have much faith in it. Fine. That’s OK. You’re far from alone there.

Blackbird1234 · 04/01/2022 14:29

Sophoclesthefox - I came onto the thread because I didnt agree that the HP actors should bow out of celebrating their own achievements just because they don't agree with JKR. I don't know if JKR was purposely left out of the reunion, or if she decided not to attend. I don't think it's right if she has been excluded at all, as it remains her work that enabled everyone elses careers. I believe that everyone is entitled to their opinion, JKR included.

As for the rest, I'm happy to give my own opinion on it all if people would like to hear it, but I haven't been asked so far.

Waitwhat23 · 04/01/2022 14:28

How surprising that this 'evidence' to show that people who support JKR send rape and death threats isn't forthcoming. It's the mantras of no debate, no evidence, no facts writ large on this thread.

On the other hand...www.terfisaslur.com

Sophoclesthefox · 04/01/2022 14:12

@Blackbird1234

Sophoclesthefox - I don't think that JKR is transphobic, nor do I think that GC women will pop out a death threat at the first opportunity. You're annoyed by me speaking on this thread when I don't share the same opinion as you, I get it, but why not actually stick to things I've genuinely said.
I’m not annoyed by you at all. I’m a bit baffled by your position on this thread, though. You seem to be saying that the HP actors are justified in their opinions, because many rational, sensible people share those opinions, including you, based on some things you have read, but you’re reluctant to commit to commenting on what those opinions are, or to share the insightful posts that you found.

It’s a bit of a nothingburger. I don’t really know what you’re arguing for or against so there’s not much to engage with

senua · 04/01/2022 14:12

ok with you that I came back onto this thread because I wanted to? Or do I really not need to ask you for permission
You said that you could provide evidence.
You haven't.
Instead, you've wasted time blathering.
You've had your chance to convince but have blown it.

We all know what's going on.

Shedmistress · 04/01/2022 14:12

@Blackbird1234

Shedmistress - Pretty sure I said "people who stand with JKR" not women specifically as men also stand with her. My post was referring to whether the poster meant that women specifically never send death threats, as that's what I thought she meant. Better to ask than to assume and get it wrong.

Senua - We are having a coffee break, is it ok with you that I came back onto this thread because I wanted to? Or do I really not need to ask you for permission 🙄

Stop dithering and post your evidence that any gender critical person has issued death threats.

Male or female. Women or men. Whatever. Just show your workings.

If there are so many you'd have hundreds right?

I'm annoyed at you still being on this thread when you said - two hours ago (11:54:46 to be precise) - that you were going off to find evidence.

Shedmistress · 04/01/2022 13:56

Triphazards - Oh for goodness sake, that was a genuine question about what the poster meant by her sentence so I dont misunderstand.

You said they had. When you said 'i think it is terrible both sides sending them'.

So either produce evidence or stop accusing women of sending them.

It's pretty simple. Back up your extreme claims or stop making them. Don't pretend you don't understand my sentence.

RoyalCorgi · 04/01/2022 13:43

Here's the thing, Blackbird. Even if women were issuing death threats to trans people (which they're not), it's not really salient to the argument.

Let's remind ourselves of the argument that trans activists make repeatedly: trans women pose no threat to women. They are mild and sensitive people who just want to "pee in peace".

Every time a transactivist makes a threat to Rowling or any other woman, they undermine that claim.

And they have made thousands of threats. As Rowling says, she could paper her house with them.

So you could argue that transactivists are engaged in an extreme kind of gaslighting, by deliberately contradicting their own statements.

Or you could just argue that they are very, very thick.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 04/01/2022 13:38

Blackbird1234 the people who accuse JKR of transphobia are the ones say we have to BELIEVE they are women. If you don't BELIEVE, you are a transphobe.

That's what it boils down to.

Do you think people should be called nasty names because of their beliefs? Or lack thereof?

And no, the death- (and rape-) threats were only going one way. Saying 'those people are so extreme they don't count' cuts no ice with those on the receiving end who are being told they deserve it.

Sophoclesthefox · 04/01/2022 13:33

Enjoyable as this is, I think it’s just the 12 inch disco remix of the usual inability to pin down anything JKRowling has said that is transphobic Grin

Don’t take it personally, blackbird. You may or may not know that you’re in a long tradition of posters who are convinced she is transphobic, but who cannot specify quite why, and also to assure us that gender critical women will pop out a death threat at the first opportunity, but unfortunately, can’t just right now lay their hands on the evidence…

Blackbird1234 · 04/01/2022 13:21

Shedmistress Are you saying that no woman could issue a death threat?
You're rambling, somewhat.

Shedmistress · 04/01/2022 12:59

@Blackbird1234

Notbad - Then allow me some time to see if I can find the ones I have already seen. It isn't a lie. I do not commend death threats in ANY case, dont get me wrong. I think its terrible of either side sending them and doesn't help the cause in the slightest. I can assure you I'm posting in good faith, I have absolutely zero vendetta out on JKR, I simply find the conversation really interesting and enjoy speaking to people about it on occasion. I'm sorry if you think I'm not posting in good faith.
Just quoting your post about death threats from both sides not being a lie.

Because you seem to have forgotten that you are accusing women of issuing death threats.

Blackbird1234 · 04/01/2022 12:49

Senua - This is really getting silly. Thanks for the deadline that I'll ignore, as I actually want to find a post I found insightful as I am posting in good faith, and am not gonna half arse it just because some stranger on the internet says I have a deadline 🙄

senua · 04/01/2022 12:47

Oh, x-post with "a couple of hours of sewing lessons with my MIL this afternoon, so once that's done I'll continue my search". Sounds like my 6 o'clock was too optimistic. Silly me.
