This is not acceptable. I like that the DM includes a link to their website at the end of the article. Not sure the DM readership is their target market, but a nice touch.

Go witches go...

Some posters, what do you read and why?

Genuinely curious.

Did pie miss that recent interview with Nancy Kelley on a Quatar sponsored media…. One that did not raise the issue of the Stonewall’s concerns about the laws on homosexual relationships in that country.

I think they have missed the fact that it is now very hypocritical to use that ‘look at who that media is aligned with’ crap against feminists now.

Get up to date pie. You are behind the times.

SomePosters · 30/12/2021 14:35

Oh dear… fawning to the daily mail… a new mn low

I remember a time when we didn’t share daily fail links here

You’d think it would make people stop and think about the kind of people on their team but cognitive dissonance can jump any canyon

VestofAbsurdity · 30/12/2021 14:17

To return to the substance of the thread... It really comes to something when the Mail, of all papers, runs an article supportive of a French (I think) lesbian, while the supposedly liberal press is completely silent.

Indeed, a conservative paper championing the rights of a French lesbian woman to speak her mind and not be hounded by an intolerant, hate filled mob determined to shut her up, frighten her and her family and destroy her livelihood and the oh so tolerant, liberal, human rights championing papers and ideologues are where? Oh that's right they are the ones complicit in trying to silence her and shut her down.

Grumpyosaurus · 30/12/2021 14:10

There's one poster on this thread who just deserves a shout of 'SQUIRREL!' and nothing else.

I feel incredibly betrayed by the Left and centre, who have been ignoring reality to score woke points.

thinkingaboutLangCleg · 30/12/2021 14:03

MargaritaPie asks Are the Daily Mail Gender Critical? Every article they make on the topic is always in support of Gender Critical. So are almost all the comments.

Yes indeed, the Daily Mail, which is a generally conservative newspaper, holds the same view of reality as about 99% of the population. I've heard the DM also believes that Monday is the day after Sunday, and that humans can't breathe unaided under water.

For anyone who didn't pick this up, we are meant to run around screaming "Oh no, I believe the same as the Daily Mail, which is the source of all evil! I must delete these evil thoughts!"

But MargaritaPie, the time has long passed when women automatically deferred to men's superior wisdom and did what we were told.

DinoDinner · 30/12/2021 13:54

Wonder why they've stopped taking comments!

VestofAbsurdity · 30/12/2021 13:54

Good point Embarrassing, I do feel a bit grey today.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 30/12/2021 13:52

@VestofAbsurdity

I think you've missed the point there.

Hmm, I think it's one of two options with that poster:

  1. The point wasn't just missed it sailed straight over their head and is currently orbiting Saturn.
  1. Poster is doing their usual faux innocence disingenuous act, thinking we are all stupid enough to be taken in by it.

Could be a combination of both I suppose, but I'm favouring option (2).

  1. Not posting for readers on this board but for use elsewhere?

@MargaritaPie

They have merchandise (T-shirts and other) with the word "T*RF" on them.

If JK Rowling claims she isn't transphobic, why is she advertising a company which is openly transphobic. Because that's essentially what T*RF means.

You're right mPIE burn the witches.

Oh yeah thats exactly what the people stalking Angela Wild were threatening.

The more things change, the more things stay the same.

@WomaninBoots

Oh dear. Is no-one taking being accused of being "right wing" or a "TERF" seriously any more? Goodness! I wonder why that might be.
It's almost as if this is the logical outcome of denying that words should have shared meanings.

Perhaps women aren't to be tolerated when they demonstrate indifference or resilience to the bad faith categorisation from those who don't think we should have autonomy or rights.

However did this come about? Hmm

Just reflecting on the predictable responses of a commenter who doesn't show any evidence of pausing to reflect upon the many responses they've gathered over their episodic engagement on this issue on FWR.

Aside from the usual Bunbury considerations, it might be useful to reflect upon the issues of trust v. trustworthiness and how someone demonstrates the latter through learning and adapting attitudes when evidence is available that conflicts with their world view. Onora O'Neill's TED talk is useful.

GoatsAndBarley · 30/12/2021 13:33

Wanting to exclude males from female spaces isn't transphobia. It's common sense.

Aside from that, do you think it's ok for people to be sending her death threats? Will you actually bother to answer? Probably not, you rarely do when the questions don't suit your agenda.

Sophoclesthefox · 30/12/2021 13:32

I think Marge misses points left, right and centre.

Being that obtuse takes a lot of effort.

If the lay of the land is that I am aligned with the DM in being against death threats against small businesswomen from spineless Internet bullies, then I’m pretty comfortable with that. You’d have to ask yourself who wouldn’t be, really Confused

Any comments to make as to the actual content if the article @MargaritaPie? Any feelings about the acceptability of death threats?

ArabellaScott · 30/12/2021 13:20

Marginalised groups have a history of taking the slurs used against them and repurposing them as an act of defiance. Various words I wouldn't use for various groups could be given as examples, but I don't use them because I'm not part of those groups - and they are generally considered so offensive anyone using them here runs the risk of being deleted.

The difference between a white person using the 'n' word and a black person doing the same.

ArabellaScott · 30/12/2021 11:45

Yes. An ideology that uses silencing, force, threats and menace to advance its own interests works for so long. Then people realise what's happening and start to resist. Women and allies have countered this ideology without trying to threaten anyone, just by sharing evidence, information and well thought-through arguments. The difference in approach is quite amazing. And it's clear which one is emerging as rational, logical and fair to the general public.

Needmoresleep · 30/12/2021 09:54

Ordinary people recognise bullies.

Its fine trying to stuff everything into an intersectionality framework, with a bit of Marxist analysis on top, but most people don't think that way. At the University of Life you learn that you won't agree with, or have much in common with, everyone but a bully is a bully whatever justification they use.

Most people don't approve of rape and death threats. Thank goodness.

catzwhiskas · 30/12/2021 09:46

And the comments are almost all in support of Angela. Nice to see everything out there with no words minced. Another ray of sunlight.

ArabellaScott · 30/12/2021 08:43

I hear the DM also predicts rain and winds for this afternoon; all right thinking people should of course denounce this propaganda at once.
