This is not acceptable. I like that the DM includes a link to their website at the end of the article. Not sure the DM readership is their target market, but a nice touch.

Go witches go...

Lily Cade?

Lily Cade is a porn star, not a radical feminist.

dolorsit · 30/12/2021 23:40

Hey Pie clown dancing as usual. GrinGrinGrin

MargaritaPie · 30/12/2021 23:17

"Despite the fact no one thinks that"

Lily Cade?

Linguini · 30/12/2021 23:10

@MargaritaPie

My understanding is T*RF and transphobic are basically interchangeable. It's not really something to proudly call oneself or to have on your coffee cup.
I find this interesting to hear from a TRA.

Women who stand up for women are frequently called "terf".

The "terf" everyone is so afraid of only really exists in mythology.
The "terf" is someone who wants to "deny transpeople exist" it is someone who "hates transpeople" it is someone who "wants transpeople to die".

Despite the fact no one thinks that.

Anyone accused of being a "terf" only needs to say something quite benign like anything JKR has said, but they're then accused of all of the above.

I find it interesting when a TRA admits that the term "terf" is used as a synonym for "transphobic" because usually when women complain about being called "terf" when saying something completely not transphobic, we're gaslit and told it's "just a neutral description of a type of feminist" and apparently was "invented by feminists".

I think we can all agree the term is far from a neutral description and it's used as a weapon to accuse women of things they haven't ever said let alone thought.

It's ok to reclaim it in my opinion. It's such a harmful derogatory acronym.

@Goatsaregreat

Do posters who find themselves on a feminist board minimising and excusing threats and violence against women ever wonder how they got to such a place? Do they ever wonder why a lack of care and empathy for women and children appears to be a feature rather than a flaw in their thinking?
Extremely well put.
mariesatonhisknee · 30/12/2021 20:19

@Grumpyosaurus

The analogy is spot on. The n-word is a slur. It is a term used to insult and demean, rather than just describe. So is terf.

As for feminism... Honestly, I'm not sure if you lack the capacity to understand or are so convinced of your virtue that you can't get your head around another POV, but feminism is about women. That is, the old fashioned XX type. The type repressed and abused for millennia because (get this) they are the ones who have the babies which puts them at a massive physical disadvantage.

Women, due to their biology, were shat on from a great height for centuries. Men wanted to control reproduction, so they needed to control women. They were, on average, significantly bigger and stronger (this is because of a hormone called testosterone, which you may have heard of), so they were well able to control the baby-makers, and in many places they still do. Women got a bit sick of not being able to own proper, or vote, or earn the same as men for the same work, hence feminism. Hence the rejection of gender roles and stereotypes, which just serves to keep us in our (very unequal) place.

Feminism, the sort I ascribe to, is about women, not people who were once men. It's about the rejection of gender, while at the same time acknowledging that there are real differences between men and women. Trans rights are not the same as feminism. I can believe that feminism is about actual, natal women, and still be 100% in favour of trans people having the same rights that we all have, provided (and this is the kicker) that doesn't result in women being, yet again, shat on from a great height, and losing oh, dunno, the right to be safe if incarcerated, or to compete fairly in sports.

I hope that's clear.

Exactly completely agree

Long before the present furore Watson had set out her stall as a vacuous, wittering, empty- headed twerp.

GoatsAndBarley · 30/12/2021 19:41

@Ereshkigalangcleg

"TERF" is a slur used by TRAs to abuse feminists, that some women would like to reclaim. Like "queer" was reclaimed.
This.

TheWeeDonkey · 30/12/2021 18:47

Well if no other publication is bothered about sharing the targeting and harrasment of a single parent and her child then I am glad the Daily Mail is bringing this to public attention.

CompleteGinasaur · 30/12/2021 18:30

Personally I'm absolutely fine with TERF being glamourised and normalised. I haven't been glamourous since the 90's.

GoatsAndBarley · 30/12/2021 17:51

@MargaritaPie

Yes threats are uncalled for.

But are we going to ignore the fact they are selling items with "T*RF" on them as if transphobia is "cool" and something to be glamorised and normalised?

Would T-shirts and mugs with "homophobic" on them be acceptable?

Seeing as terf doesn't mean transphobia she's good to keep selling her merch.
JKR1 · 30/12/2021 17:38

Hilarious, Emma Watson may identify as a feminist but she sure as hell isn't one

Exactly, you can't be a feminist if you're not GC.

JKR1 · 30/12/2021 17:35

Well done Daily Mail 👏 👍 👌

I have to admit I find myself agreeing with their articles more and more as I get older.

ArabellaScott · 30/12/2021 17:34

A woman is receiving death threats, therefore women on MN are all hateful people being held responsible for a stranger's suicide, is that where we are? I see.

And terf is a slur, Margarita, used to smear and Mark women out as suitable targets for abuse.

terfisaslur.com provides endless examples of rape and death threats couple with use of the term. There seems to be a strong correlation between those who apply the term to women and those making threats, funnily enough.

Grumpyosaurus · 30/12/2021 17:32

@ScreamingMeMe

Christ, the "Oh look a squirrel" posts on here Hmm

A woman has been abused and threatened, but but but...

Indeed. And I've got sucked into squirrelling.

Linguini · 30/12/2021 17:12

Look.
The single most common cause of death in male people aged between 29-49 (in the UK) is suicide.

This means, the single most common cause of death in transwomen aged 28-49 will be suicide.

To blame the suicides of male people on any one specific person (a letter their mum wrote) or group of people (gender critical feminists) goes completely against Samaritan guidelines, and is weaponising a death in the most heinous of ways.

What is needed is more mental health support for male people. Not to force others into a batshit belief system.

VestofAbsurdity · 30/12/2021 17:08

Emma Watson is an example off the top of my head, she's a feminist who does a lot to help women but is also not GC and supports trans-people.

Hilarious, Emma Watson may identify as a feminist but she sure as hell isn't one.

Feminism is for females, it is about females, it does not include males however they identify or however nice they may be, I know that's a difficult concept for you to grasp.

AbandonedCharacter · 30/12/2021 17:02

If you're refusing to discuss a DM article, @MargaritaPie, then why are you on this thread?

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 30/12/2021 17:02

@MargaritaPie

Do you have a source that isn't the Daily Mail?
I shouldn't be too startled but are there forum users who don't understand how to formulate a decent search engine enquiry?

I wonder how difficult that must make day-to-day activities.

bordermidgebite · 30/12/2021 17:01

@MargaritaPie

Do you have a source that isn't the Daily Mail?

Isn't there a regulatory body you can report to if you think there has been bad reporting ?

Whatwouldscullydo · 30/12/2021 17:00

Not including males in a moment for females doesn't mean we don't support them in anything at all.ever.

You wouldn't be suggesting that the role of women is to support and centre males at all times would you?

Feminism.includes fighting for the rights of women and females howler they identify whether they feel they need the rights right now or not. That includes trans men btw. So God is feminism.trabs exclusionary?

And what are you doing to ensure men and males are not dangerous and transphobc towards other males regardless of how they identify? Do you ku just tell women their boundaries are hateful or are you working with men to male spaces safe fir all.males ?
