FWR (as I still think of it) is a very important corner of the Internet.

I read here almost daily, and the amount of information here is incredible - evidence, links to articles, tweets, feminist analysis, philosophical conversations, academic studies, court cases, judicial reviews, updates on previous cases... the list goes on and on. Personally it takes me time to keep up, let alone feel brave enough to comment Smile

At this time of the year, especially, I just thought it would be nice to create a little thread to say thank you to all the regular contributers from the ones like me, who read but rarely post. Thanks for the information, the wisdom, the challenging discussions and all the lovely dinosaur names!

Hopefully some more lurkers will join me so I'm not left languishing on this thread alone!

Thanks All, and lang may yer lum reek! Xmas Smile

Well done to everyone 💪

catzwhiskas · 25/12/2021 11:39

And this is how it is done ...well done to all of us for the small and big changes we make in the world every single day. The spirit of sisterhood lives! Big thank you to all the well known and not well known women here all getting stronger and braver. Visibility is important .

JustcameoutGC · 25/12/2021 09:53

Ooooh this has warmed the cockles of my heart on a Christmas morn.

Thanks to the education i have receved here this was the year i went public in work with my views, and have challenged our policies and language. It was scary as hell. But i have found some fantastic allies, and i am so well armed by this site, that the well honed rational arguments i can bring are hard to counter in the cold light of day.

Once i spoke up, it became really evident that twitter is not a very good training ground for this fight, and that is where the TRAs hang out. When you actually have to discuss things, and can't throw a hissy fit and shout 'transphobia' at the first thing that you disagree with, they have nothing, but beeeeee kinnnddddd, and as i pointed out, that has to go both ways.

A society based on the acceptance of gender ideology is not the route to building an inclusive society as it would impose a belief system on many who fundamentally disagree with it. We have to find a different way.

Merry Christmas from the lurkers! 🎄🤶

Thanks so much to everyone who has commented, it means so much. Wishing you all a lovely day.

Honestly, thank you. Being GC in RL is so scary because people are so quick and angry to judge.

I keep quiet now because it’s easier so I appreciate those who are brave enough not to.

Phobiaphobic · 25/12/2021 08:41

You're all bloody marvellous, posters and lurkers alike. It means everything to know that you're all out there, holding the line, whether in MN or the Times, on Twitter or simply in your own kitchen.

Thank you, and Merry Christmas to you all.

Supergranscape · 25/12/2021 07:17

Another lurker here to say a massive thank you.

Selkiesarereal · 25/12/2021 00:52

Another one who usually lurks and rarely posts.

Thank you for all the intelligent posters on here who are helping me and many others to become a little more braver.

I think it’s nice to see on a thread like this that although there are some regular posters on here, their voices are being heard by the many.

Merry Christmas all!

Redshoeblueshoe · 25/12/2021 00:36

A few years ago I was a lurker. I probably said a few daft things, but I found that if you are posting in good faith the regulars will guide you and support you.
Merry Christmas to you all ❤️Wine

Maladicta · 24/12/2021 23:54

Another lurker saying thank you. Have had a couple of discussions with dd in the last few days and she’s now fully GC. Couldn’t have wished for a better Christmas present. Blessed be to all

TurquoiseBaubles · 24/12/2021 23:47

@J0sephineMarch

Hi all, I used to post on Mumsnet a lot but got fed up with the moderation, so after too many [patronising] warnings I left.

But I never stopped lurking, and for a time, posted many many comments in the Times. Always informed in large part by what I have learned here. Thank you so much.
Mumsnet Feminism Chat gave me a voice for my unease about the lauding of Caitlyn Jenner, and then later, when the issue of gender ideology and children came to me, most unexpectedly at work, it gave me support when I thought the world was entirely losing its mind.

I will dereg. again now because online is not good for my mental health, but I won't be shutting up. Everything I learned on here helps me to talk to people I know, write to MPs and Members of the House of Lords, fill in Consultations, sign petitions and donate money to the brilliant individuals and organisations that are beginning to have an effect. I am sure there are many people like me out there - going to meetings and writing to people.
I hope that in 2022 I will get the guts to do some Direct Actions. I think it may be the moment.
Thank you again. You helped me understand why we need feminism. You helped me assert myself.

I have an absolutely huuuuuge girlcrush on you JosephineMarch. Your comments in the Times must have enlightened thousands of readers. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

PS *@Datun*, just to add that means a lot coming from you, one of the people that this thread was aimed at thanking. Thank you. 🎄
Blimey! Blush thank you!!!

My goodness, Jo March is here! You are a one woman dynamo under all those Times articles.

Your knowledgeable, incisive, hard hitting and yet really, reeeeally reasonable comments must have informed the mind of every single person who read them.

Amazing to see you here, however briefly x[/quote]
OMG what a feeling-the-love thread 🥰 yes indeed, Datun, Jo March dropping by is truly an occasion!

I always love threads where lurkers delurk, it’s always such a comfort, but this one is a real Christmas Special 💜🤍💚

Merry Christmas lurkers and posters one and all! 🎄🎄🎄

Verily I say unto you, the women of MN shall overcome Grin

Another lurker joining to say thank you for everything.

greengoose21b · 24/12/2021 19:43

Another lurker here, emerging to say thank you to all the regular posters for their insight, wisdom and bravery.

This board has become the one place on mumsnet I check regularly. I have learned so much...and though the occasional ad hominem attack shows up, 99.9% of the conversation is well reasoned, evidence based, scientific fact, with no shortage of empathy.

I would be scared to have open conversations about gender in my workplace. But here I learn and listen, and hopefully the tide is turning.

Thank you for starting this thread.

MonsignorMirth · 24/12/2021 19:22

I'm by no means a lurker, I have an annoying habit of sticking my beak in, but love this thread and Jo March!

Floisme · 24/12/2021 19:17

All rise for J0sephineMarch

Bloody great to see you on here J0. Take care.

Rhannion · 24/12/2021 19:06

J0 and her comments in The Times are fantastic!

TofuDelights · 24/12/2021 18:47

OMG, thank you Datun, I'm just so happy with how this thread has gone! I hoped a few fellow lurkers would join but I really wasn't expecting so many comments or actual famous feminists!

Feeling a bit teary tbh.

Thank you all so much everyone, wishing you all a happy Christmas. Xmas Smile

Thank you for this thread. It's bloody marvellous.

ElPolloLoco · 24/12/2021 16:51

@ErrolTheDragon

I hope people won't mind if I give a particular welcome to J0sephineMarch - many of us have been extremely appreciative of your comments on the Times and have noticed your absence of late. And obviously we understand why you may not want to be posting either here or there now but it's really good to know you're still active! Thanks
Seconded! I’ve loved your work on the Times Jo and did notice your absence.

Great thread thanks for starting OP!!

I’ve been a bit of a lurker and am heartened to see so many women speaking up.

RatinaMaze · 24/12/2021 16:38

Another daily lurker and very occasional poster saying thank you. Thank you for making me feel less alone and bewildered and thank you for untangling my thoughts.

Also to the person (because you must be on this board) who ties suffragette ribbons and little signs with feminist quotes along the riverside walk near where I live, I see you and I thank you. I wish I were so brave.
