FWR (as I still think of it) is a very important corner of the Internet.

I read here almost daily, and the amount of information here is incredible - evidence, links to articles, tweets, feminist analysis, philosophical conversations, academic studies, court cases, judicial reviews, updates on previous cases... the list goes on and on. Personally it takes me time to keep up, let alone feel brave enough to comment Smile

At this time of the year, especially, I just thought it would be nice to create a little thread to say thank you to all the regular contributers from the ones like me, who read but rarely post. Thanks for the information, the wisdom, the challenging discussions and all the lovely dinosaur names!

Hopefully some more lurkers will join me so I'm not left languishing on this thread alone!

Thanks All, and lang may yer lum reek! Xmas Smile

Me too! I've learned enough that my 22yo very woke TWAW dd1 now doesn't start a fight with me!

countrypunk · 22/12/2021 21:28

I would like to say thank you too. I've just been ejected from my closest female friendship group for understanding that sex is real and the basis of women's oppression. Threads like these and women like you keep me fighting.

Happy Christmas to all you wonderful women Xmas Smile

Bancha · 22/12/2021 21:28

Thank you from me, too Flowers

GromblesofGrimbledon · 22/12/2021 21:24

Aw I love this Smile

You're all fab!

Mummyoflittledragon · 22/12/2021 21:22

This is such a brilliant thread. I agree. I, too, knew nothing about the erosion of women’s rights until I read some deeply worrying threads on this board a few years ago. I totally agree that I parent my dd differently because of the tireless work of such dedicated posters.

ILikeBiscuits · 22/12/2021 21:20

Thank you from me, too.

Leafstamp · 22/12/2021 21:17

This is such a heart warming and uplifting thread. I’m neither a lurker nor a mainstay poster, I have learnt so much here and in turn try to pass it on, as well as learning more myself all the time.

Whenever something hits the news or Twitter I come here for trusted commentary.

Geamhradh · 22/12/2021 21:14

And from me too. And my 18 year old daughter who, through mum and daughter chat over meals is now as GC as me.
I was another vaguely liberal feminist being liberal and fluffy about Issues.
It was a comment on one of the threads about teenage girls and changing rooms that made me go "oh! of course".

VeggieSausage · 22/12/2021 21:14

Agreed - long time lurker and reader here - thanks to all of you. I read so many things on here going "gosh, she is so right about that!". You are all great, keep doing what you are doing!

Davros · 22/12/2021 21:14

I totally agree. MN has completely opened my eyes on this subject and I've successfully expounded to a number of friends.
I hoped this was about one of my favourite punk bands though

Me too. The active posters have saved my sanity - and out things I feel into wonderfully clear and well-supported words. Thank you all.

NecklessMumster · 22/12/2021 21:10

Yes thank you. You are my mainstay and I have learnt so much and passed on to others

madamsapple · 22/12/2021 21:09

and another thank you.

MummyGummy · 22/12/2021 21:09

Thanks from me too. I feel I’ve come a long way thanks to the information & perspectives I’ve read on this board.

A few years ago I was asked at a rape & sexual abuse centre if I would object to seeing a trans women therapist. In the moment I was so worried about being seen as a bigot I said it would be fine, but worried after about how uncomfortable I would feel discussing my experiences with a male therapist.

In the end I had a female therapist, but I wish now I had been brave enough to say no & explain why. It makes me angry that vulnerable women are even being put in the position where they have to make that decision and how detrimental it could be to their recovery.

MsMoorhead · 22/12/2021 21:06

Here here! Thanks to all!

Itmustbeaproblemwithyourdoodad · 22/12/2021 21:00

Yessss @TofuDelights I’ve been wanting to do a thread like this as I am so grateful to all the incredibly articulate posters on this board.

When I joined mumsnet I was genuinely baffled by what I saw as all the anti trans threads and was 100% of the “be kind” mentality. But gradually reading this board opened my eyes, peaked me and now I feel quite passionate about it! I’ve had a few conversations in real life when I felt safe enough to do so but so many of my friends (especially the musical theatre crew) are quite militantly TWAW that I feel very nervous of broaching this topic with them for fear of being misunderstood and ostracised as a bigot. I am slowly working up the courage and this board continues to inspire and encourage me. So thank you!!!

shakingmytinselatyule · 22/12/2021 20:57

Don't think I have ever signed a petition in my life until I came across this board. Shout out to all the eloquent, intelligent and informed women on these important subjects.

PronounssheRa · 22/12/2021 20:49

I love lurker threads 👋 I was a lurker for a long time before posting.

Don't be put off adding to threads sometimes just calling something for the batshittery it is is all that's needed.

SockFluffInTheBath · 22/12/2021 20:48

Thank you from another lurker. I think I asked you to play nicely once, and you opened my eyes. I’ve learned so much from this board so thank you.

JohnnyCashcard · 22/12/2021 20:47

Hello and thanks from another lurker! In fact I have mainly lurked since the days of Dittany et al so it seems unlikely that I'll become a prolific poster at this stage Blush but I am always in awe of the eloquence and thoughtfulness of posters on here.

Keep feministing and Merry Christmas, all FlowersXmas Smile

Dreamingofwinter · 22/12/2021 20:44

Thank you from me as well. I’m a long time lurker. I never feel I can articulate myself well enough to contribute but I read most posts and learn so much. It makes me feel braver and more able to have these conversations with some of the people around me!

mountainshadow · 22/12/2021 20:44

Thank you from me too! I’m another becoming a bit braver IRL…

Datun · 22/12/2021 20:43

Ooh, I've just remembered another thing I said. It was about the Bechdel Test.

This is the test about women's representation in films.

It's whether or not you can spot two women talking to each other in a film for more than 15 minutes, without them talking about a man.

It's surprisingly rare. Sorry, unsurprisingly.

But as a real life proof, it's quite effective. Especially if you tend to watch movies with your spouse.

Sexism and transgenderism are so entwined, you cannot talk about one without the other.

Winecheesesleep · 22/12/2021 20:41

I sometimes post here but mainly lurk, I don't feel I can add much beyond what you guys say so well. Thank you!
