Do you believe in biology?

Just wondered if anyone actually believes in biology anymore?
Do you think we should lobby schools and universities to change their curriculums to include the new scientific facts?
E.g.
Men can become women
Women can become men
Genetics don't matter
Men can give birth
Men who give birth are not mothers
Sex is on a spectrum

etc.
Do you think we should be censored if we ever dare to speak about biology, even when we are not being derogatory towards anyone but just speaking biological truths?
Do biological truths even exist anymore?

To quote Homer Simpson, "'I'm the magical man, from happy land. I live in a gum drop house, on Lollipop Lane"...........

I'm being sarcastic.

There was a thread a while back where one of our visitors promised to come and tell us how it was completely possible for humans to change sex.
But then they never did.
I was disappointed.

Perfect please share your views on believing in biology or not.

Findwen · 23/12/2021 09:42

Men have always been able to become women. We have always been at war with Oceania, and we thank David Paisley for increasing the chocolate ration.

@Perfect28

Op you don't want discussions though do you, you want a place to rant. You want your views heard and to trump other views.
This is a joke considering that two discussions were vetoed by MNHQ to satisfy those who find biology offensive or too contentious to discuss. It seems that those like yourself who consider discussions about biology to be a "rant" are actually "trumping" other peoples views because the discussion invariably gets shut down unless the poster believes in fantasy and lies over measurable, objective biological truths.

And lets be clear.
These are NOT my "views". These are the basic laws for all mammalian life on earth.

You are entitled to you own opinions.
You are NOT entitled to your own facts.

“Perfect28

Which view?
That factual biology about sex is not being taken into account, or understood to be the basis of everything, when discussing trans gender issues?

That myths and beliefs (and cancelled thoughts) are trumping biology in discussions and policies related to trans gender?

That ‘female/woman/mother’ as biological descriptors of half the human race, and the agency and experience of their living bodies, is being excised from language?

Do you Perfect28 think that there is no fact? That all views are equal? That all things are relative?

Does she? Do you have some other views on any of the various issues alluded to by the OP you'd like to share?

@Funnylittlefloozie unless supporting means unquestioning and immediate referral of teens and pre-teens for experimental drug treatment and surgery. Then there's some lack of supporting around here Wink

Funnylittlefloozie · 23/12/2021 07:30

I don't think I've ever seen a post here suggesting not supporting people who believe they are trans. The only time people get really upset is when transwomen demand or force access to women-only spaces, usually for no other reason than they can.

JellySaurus · 23/12/2021 00:51

She says that all embryos begin as female.

That's what I was taught 35 years ago. But I was also taught to keep a person warm if they had a fever, and to put butter on burns.

JellySaurus · 23/12/2021 00:48

I don't 'believe' in biology, it happens whether or not I believe. Just as I don't 'believe' I'm a woman, or have some special kind of feminine, womanly essence. Being a woman happens by virtue of being an adult human female - I don't have any choice in the matter.

In other news, water is wet.

ScrollingLeaves · 23/12/2021 00:21

@NoNotMeNoSiree

“You go straight into let's scrap biology, people obviously don't know about it!
Er, yes they do.
Doesn't mean they can't support and accept people who are trans too.“

This below is India Willoughby describing the biology of being transgender. She says that all embryos begin as female. I dont think
what she says here shows much knowledge about biology, and I am sure the woman next to her was nodding in agreement. Many viewers will have accepted that as the truth too.

What about Stonewall talking about same gender attraction in regard to gay and lesbian women? SW’s sense of biology is inaccurate there.

Or the idea of the sex spectrum which is inaccurate?

JaneJeffer · 23/12/2021 00:11

If I say yes will I be deleted?

ScrollingLeaves · 23/12/2021 00:07

“Cuck00soup

I am I the only one that is slightly concerned that this could happen“

I think it could happen but by bit. So many people believe in the ‘spectrum’ myth about sex, and look at the Welsh education policy being discussed on another thread that removes discussion of the sexes. It is to begin at age 3 and be compulsory.

NoNotMeNoSiree · 22/12/2021 23:18

@Abhannmor

Perhaps we should petition schools to drop biology altogether. It makes no more sense than Astrology. This has been proved by experts like Owen Jones and Ellie Mae O Hagan
I closed the thread as thought oh, going to go to the same way as usual. Then saw this on my way out! I obviously can't speak for Owen Jones as I'm not him. Why though, can someone know about biology but not accept people who are trans too? You go straight into let's scrap biology, people obviously don't know about it! Er, yes they do. Doesn't mean they can't support and accept people who are trans too.
Franca123 · 22/12/2021 23:05

Whether the MNHQ censors find it offensive or not, I'm going to get accidentally pregnant if I don't use a condom. My partner won't. The censors are ridiculous in their prudishness. My post got removed because I said I didn't have spunk just cus I dressed up as a man at Halloween. Maybe I should have said ejaculate? Biology really upsets mumsnet.

LilithRises · 22/12/2021 22:57

Biology exists - an objective reality - doesn't need me to believe it or not
Gender ideology - subjective ideas and feelings - not objectively real

Cailleach1 · 22/12/2021 22:42

I think those that try to con everyone that biology is not a scientific fact should live by their professed beliefs. Isn't it hypocritical to be taking places in the queues of those who wish to seek medical healthcare.

Take a picture of a unicorn or something and call into Mermaids to carry it out according to their slogans. Equally, why are they exclusively seeking out women to use in surrogacy. Believe your slogans and approach one of the talking heads who state they have transformed themselves from a man into a woman. They can't even pretend in real life to act as if they believe their own professed beliefs.

ErrolTheDragon · 22/12/2021 22:28

Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away (thanks, Philip K. Dick).

Excellent quote.

nannybeach · 22/12/2021 22:27

Testosterone by Carol Hooven is a very interesting read.

PrincessNutella · 22/12/2021 22:25

No, I don't believe in biology. I also don't believe in math. I don't believe in the sun or the moon or the earth. But there they are. If two males have sex, the chances that they will have a baby are zero throughout human history. You could use different words to try to describe this phenomenon but it won't change anything. Or you could choose not to believe it, but you'd be wasting sperm.

Mouseonmychair · 22/12/2021 22:25
  • National women's football teams

Again I don't think I have said anything factually incorrect here as Stated it is all biology.

Mouseonmychair · 22/12/2021 22:23

I believe in biology as do most people. It why men's sport is better attended because they can jump further and run faster and why a league 2 male football team can get a bigger attendance than the national football teams because more people are interested in it. They want to see the pinnacle of human achievement which unfortunately isn't going to involve women's sports and it perhaps should be why they are paid better as sports people because generally in a strength based sport they have a biological advantage. Perhaps it should also apply to pay in manual trades where strength is an advantage too.

Unless you mean not believing in that part of biology.

RobotValkyrie · 22/12/2021 21:24

The whole thing reminds me of the whole creationist madness, which my younger self stumbled on about 20 years ago, upon first contact with the Internet. Nobody cares much about these wackos anymore. But I believe they are one of the reasons Richard Dawkins became his own slightly extremist self. Hard to keep your cool when facing fanatics who are hell-bent on rewriting the curriculum.

I don't "believe" in biology any more than I "believe" in evolution. Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away (thanks, Philip K. Dick). Biology doesn't need my belief to do it's thing. Nature doesn't give a toss whether you identify as male or female. Sperm inseminates, wombs gestate, doesn't matter which words you write in pink, and which ones you write in blue. Gender is such superficial bollocks. All form and no substance.
