@skipperjonce

Sounds great. Don't get jealous and angry about it. It's a step in the right direction.

Hopefully now more women's charities and health services will be able to adopt this stance too.

That is a good point to keep in mind - if this is accepted it could be pointed to as a sort of precedent. That being said, the reason it's accepted in this instance is because of the differences between male and female approaches to gender ideology. Transwomen are not really wanting to be lumped in visibly with men in a campaign like this.

@RebeccaCloud9

As a side note, what do non binary people call themselves (if 'trans women are women' etc). So we have men and women. Does a non binary male still call themselves a man but non binary? Or do they not use a man/woman term at all?
Either they are such special, ethereal, but most importantly, the most interesting people in the world, and can never be defined by something as mundane as biology, or, they are like Eddie Izzard and choose whether to be male or female depending on the circumstances that will give them the most advantage.
WeeBisom · 20/12/2021 15:41

What pisses me off about this is we are told that the erasure of the word woman, breast feeding etc is all in service of equality and being kind and inclusive. It’s not done for any nefarious or sinister motives against women. It’s to make trans people feel safer etc. Ok so if that’s true can they not take the piss and blatantly thrust it in our faces that men get to still be called men, no problem? They can’t even afford us the dignity of pretending the real reason is inclusion , because there isn’t a single peep against prostate cancer U.K. ! I think making women aware there is a double standard , and women getting cross is half the fun.

And agree, the reason we can’t be called women is totally because trans women will get mad at not being included , but they don’t want to be called prostate owners so are fine with men being men.

I think they are simply "valid".

@Anordinarymum

Men are men. If they have a willy they are men. If you have a womb you are a woman.

Go on then

Yep. That!

That's correct.

No I don't get it.

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 20/12/2021 13:05

Sorry, quoted the wrong person, in my phone with cold, arthritic fingers.

But you get what I meant 😃

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 20/12/2021 13:04

@334bu

*What the hell do you want them to be called then?*

Who?

Who?

I think you've missed the central point. We want when to be called women. We don't want any part of the male cohort to be called women.

That's pretty much the whole if it.

Shedmistress · 20/12/2021 12:56

@Babdoc

Shedmistress, I think a man would soon notice if he was “non bonary”! Grin Thanks for giving me a laugh with your typo - much needed in these grim times.
Lol...happy to oblige.

So it is possible to clearly target vulnerable groups (male cancers and men's mental health) without fudging language and confusing/offending anyone. Almost as though some grown ups are in charge.

rabbitwoman · 20/12/2021 09:14

What has happened to Bergdof?

I haven't heard from her for a while, and last time I mentioned her to a tra, they said munroe had been doing a lot of self reflection and had revised her previous views on some things - does that include the denial of female biology within feminism? Or is it just her previous homophobic and racist remarks?

Helleofabore · 20/12/2021 09:12

You only have to look at the male transitioners push back bitterly against being told they are penis havers to understand.

They hate being dehumanised and reminded of their penises. And I am sure they would say the same about their prostate.

Women though… told to stfu and accept dehumanisation for the sake of all who will be offended - transitioned males, transitioned females and people who want to be accepted as non-binary. Because #bekind and be the world’s mothers.

The double standards are not new. It is the same old, same old.

The fact the male charities haven’t budged from their language is apparent every year as the erasure of word women is denied by all.

Cailleach1 · 20/12/2021 09:09

So campaigns for cancers that affect men wish to save those men's lives. Campaigns for cancers that affect women don't seem to be prioritising saving women's lives. They are still prioritising men (wishes).

334bu · 20/12/2021 08:56

The erasure of the word " woman" when referring to female biology is vital in the campaign to make people think that transwomen are actually women . Monroe Bergdoff was quite honest about this need to distance the word " women" from female biology , when Monroe told the " Women's March," that they couldn't discuss the female reproductive system without being transphobic.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 20/12/2021 08:51

Its not inclusive

Once men stop being referred to as men then I’ll believe it is

Its completely indefensible

Its very hard to grasp tone etc from a post on a forum

But this is a joke right?

SweetGrapes · 20/12/2021 08:40

Transwomen want to distance themselves from the word men. All hell would probably break loose if the guidelines were updated to say men and transwomen.

It suits them just fine to have one wording for men, another for tw and the third just talking about female body parts.

Someone should do a FOI to stonewall and check what the guidance to make cancer charities has been. I bet it's different from the law written up for women.

Datun · 20/12/2021 08:33

@BingoLingFucker

“ Women aren't allowed to have a separate campaign for transmen.”

I’m not sure this is it. From what I’ve seen TW feel invalidated if campaigns highlight women’s biology in a way that they’re not included in.
This is a male campaign that benefits male people.

That's right. But that's why it's not about including transmen in women's campaigns, even as a separate, but simultaneous campaign.

Its all about stopping the word woman from being associated with female biology. In order that men can claim the word woman for themselves.

The pretence that women's campaigns exclude transmen is just that. Otherwise women's health campaigns could do what this prostrate charity is doing.

Shedmistress · 20/12/2021 08:16

I'm interested in their campaign for non binaries.

Do we know what the wording is on that?

How do they ensure that the messaging is actually aimed at the male non-binaries and not the female ones, and if they are non-bonary, how do they know?
