Also there is the small matter that the name is trademarked be Warner brothers.

But who knew? I certainly had no idea there were to US Quidditch leagues running around with broomsticks between there legs!

Rachel Johnson LBC just now in case anyone is interested

BiscuitLover3678 · 19/12/2021 17:00

I feel like she could say she actually hates a minority group (and she never has...) and she would get less flack.

BiscuitLover3678 · 19/12/2021 16:59

Oh ffs. There are so many authors who had inappropriate and sometimes downright hideous views and yet this? Hmm she really gets the worst. Pathetic.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 19/12/2021 16:25

Do you think they also do polo with pretend horses and round the world yachting with pretend sailing boats?

QueenSue · 19/12/2021 16:22

I can't get over that they're running around with sticks between their legs. Not even brooms, but simply sticks. Just why?

TimTeleporter · 19/12/2021 16:11

Maybe if they're changing the name of the game, they should also change the game. To something else entirely different. With different rules and without Harry potter inspired broomsticks. Plenty of different sports to choose from.

TheWeeDonkey · 19/12/2021 16:06

They're not real broomsticks they're not even real snitches!Hmm

Bunch of amateurs. It reminds me of when I was a kid and we used to canter around neighing pretending to be horses because none of us had real horses.

In my defense we were 8 years old, not a Biochemistry undergraduate, and I still knew the difference between boys and girls and real horses and imaginary horses.

Rightsraptor · 19/12/2021 15:37

Played with broomsticks you say? But those are ours, us witches 🧙‍♀️. They're misappropriating our stuff. Again.

BigBamBoom · 19/12/2021 14:42

I'm interested in how the "maximum gender" rule plays out. So a team could have a maximum of four men plus three ... transwomen?

ArblemarzipanTFruitcake · 19/12/2021 14:30

The full rules are on Wikepedia - it rivals Mornington Crescent.

Waitwhat23 · 19/12/2021 14:27

So you have to snatch the snitch while avoiding snitching the snatch? Ouch.

😆 nicely done

Neil Oliver gives and excellent explanation of Quidditch here, that had completely passed over my head before.

JK Rowling outrage is a load of hufflepuff that misses her point.

All I can say is a snitch in an old sock is definitely NITS. Confused

I was curious enough to look this up and apparently it's put inside a sock that dangles from a player's shorts.

I didn't believe this. After a quick search I now believe you, and have a very dodgy search history. 😂

@ArblemarzipanTFruitcake

I'm not clear what they do about the golden snitch but either someone is throwing it or they have a battery operated "flying" ball thingy with wings.

Why thank you @TheWeeDonkey
The shed is a welcoming, inclusive place, may the warmth of its bright light spread far and chase away the shadows.

@ArtemesiaK

What if one of them has a lapse of memory and accidentally misnames it? The shame! It will be like playing Quidditch on eggshells....
Excuse me , you are describing my popular copyrighted game there Queggshell, (registered) available in many discount stores, and online. Eggshells not included, terms and conditions apply, no liability accepted for death or injury incurred during play.

I can’t quite decide if April Fool has come early or late with this story. It really is the ultimate # self obsessed dickheads who take themselves too seriously and don’t realise we are all laughing at them wokery isn’t it.

You honestly couldn’t make it up, not unless you were JKR who let’s face it made it up in the first place.........

LemonSwan · 19/12/2021 13:41

All I can say is this looks like a wholly unnecessarily dangerous game.

Running around with a stick in your privates for the sake of pretending you are flying on a broom stick. How many crotch accidents are we having here?!! Ouch & utterly bizarre.

WomanStillNotAFeeling · 19/12/2021 13:34

@crumpet

Am still gobsmacked that this appears to be a real game. Played by adults. Mostly men I see, who seem to enjoy running around holding an extended phallus.

God it’s funny though. Not just the playing but the pofaced seriousness of it all!

You and me both Grin

I look forward to seeing 'Ratcatch', 'Surgery!' and 'Warship' in the shops soon if copyright is to just be ignored from now on.

It's the sheer spitefulness of the whole thing which I find ridiculous. If you don't agree with JKR's perfectly rational views to the extent that you are trying to dissociate herself from her creation, then at least have the courage of your convictions and stop making/buying merchandise, playing a game which she invented etc etc because it makes you look like a bloody hypocrite.

I've seen so many little diatribes online about how the fans 'really own the idea of Harry Potter now' and that they are fans of the films, not the books (ignoring the fact that JKR was heavily involved in the films). It's the most bizarre thing.

PrincessNutella · 19/12/2021 13:17

I loved Katie Herzog's suggestion--change it to Quiddix (as in Latinx).
