"The women were holding up 'Save Women’s Sports' banners and they were targeting the women who are known transgender athletes"

“The women were at the bottom of the run-up holding up 'Save Women’s Sports' banners and they were targeting the women who are known transgender athletes. They were getting really loud and agro when these athletes were [racing] by, and they were on a part of the course where riders would pass by a few times, because it was a section of the course that looped back on itself. They had signs and they were putting them in [the athletes’] faces and shouting. There was also a group standing at a more distant part of the course with a large flag that they were waving onto the course, in addition to signage, and they were actively trying to disrupt and target individuals that were racing,” Cameron

@Datun

Dear Godddd!!! Are we really, in 20 fucking 21, at the point, when a man says he is a woman, competes in the women's category, and then gets fucked off because he can't compete in the men's because he says he's a woman??

What the fucking hell is wrong with people?? It's collective insanity.

And when the individual threads of what is being said makes no rational sense, and seem to be conflicting with each other, the usual psychology is to take a step back and look instead for the overarching need or belief that all these muddled, conflicting claims are serving. That's the point of consistency that makes the speaker feel it all makes sense.

In this case it would seem to be a desire to do what they want, when they want, as they want, regardless of anyone else. It's the whole 'I hate boundaries' thing.

crosshatching · 18/12/2021 20:11

I wonder if the rules are different in Europe? I mean in fairness it seems (according to Wiki) that Molly prefers to compete in the men's sport rather than the women's. It might make international competition more difficult for her as women's cyclo-cross is really well supported across Europe and dominated by Dutch women.
I guess it just goes to show having an 'open' category would work for some trans athletes at least.

Binglebong · 18/12/2021 19:40

This quote by Molly "... This is a long conversation but how do they not see how damaging this is to cycling’s credibility?”

Honestly, I have no words.

@CatsOperatingInGangs

At the other end of the cycling spectrum I noted several people with female names competing in a recent British University (BUSC??) mens race. No protesters about that, no uproar and seemingly no issue from the other men in that category with men who identify as women. Isn’t that real inclusion?
If you were looking at the BUCS hill climb from last month then I only spotted one - and that’s the usual suspect. Some of the unisex names (Erin, Jean) are men.

Interestingly, the top placed female came 84th overall, and at 2:48.67 was 35 minutes behind the winner.

ArabellaScott · 18/12/2021 15:39

'possessing a “woman gender identity”, an invisible mental state that has no bearing on ... appearance or behaviour ... '

Yes. Anyone who finds themself in possession of this unquantifiable, untestable, invisible, unprovable mental state is instantly permitted access to hitherto protected categories and spaces.

It's a jolly good thing people who play sport are always careful not to take advantage of things unfairly just in order to win, isn't it?!

WeeBisom · 18/12/2021 14:27

The gaslighting is unreal. In what way is Molly even remotely marginalised? He’s just a straight up white bloke! God, I can understand the argument that trans women are subjected to homophobic violence, because they make men uncomfortable by gender bending… but Molly here looks just like the typical sort of cycling fanatic midlife husband that women on mumsnet complain about all the time! Is he honestly claiming that by mere virtue of him supposedly possessing a “woman gender identity”, an invisible mental state that has no bearing on his appearance or behaviour, that he has suddenly become an oppressed human and not like other forty something blokes? How is this marginalisation even supposed to work when people can’t even tell the difference between molly and any other garden variety dude?

I have to admit a grudging respect for his sheer chutzpah and commitment to the con, though. It takes some nerve for him to just declare himself to be a woman, enter women’s races, then complain that he is a member of a marginalised community when women turn up to point out he’s just a bloke who has declared himself to be a woman.

Artichokeleaves · 18/12/2021 14:08

'Marginalised' has become a useful word to mean 'should be exempt from the consequences of their actions on other people'.

No. Take some responsibility for your choices like an adult. No special rules for special people, who are more important than others.

Molly says 'marginalized folks don't feel safe'.

In response to this protest.

What’s depressing is that women aren’t even afforded the dignity of being allowed to be pissed off at letting an actual dude into female cycling. Even women gently protesting by holding up signs at a race is grumbled about. They really do expect us just to meekly accept anything without a peep, don’t they? Trans rights activists have succeeded in getting male athletes into women’s sports, and yet it’s not enough. They want complete subservience and acceptance from women. It’s just nuts that they refuse to acknowledge that women protesting is an understandable and justified reaction.

Usually when you take something away from someone you have to be prepared for that person to get a bit irate and upset. That is the price you have to pay. But women aren’t even seen as people capable of possessing rights, so when our things are taken away our dissent and anger is regarded as unnatural and shocking. We are supposed to quietly let everything slip from our possession, if that is what the men want.

Artichokeleaves · 18/12/2021 13:01

It always reminds me somewhat of the abuser who shouts at you not to cry and upset him with your feelings while he's hurting you.

AnkleDeep · 18/12/2021 12:30

Good for them.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 18/12/2021 12:24

Cycling has long had a problem with equal participation of men and women. 2022 will be the first time in 30 years that women have more than a one day participation in the Tour de France.
And now...the phrase above "targeting the women who are known transgender athletes" suggests that there was more than one rider in this category.
So even that little progress that has been made will be lost if some of the few women's opportunities are taken.
And lets face it - in cycling winning at all costs has been a bit of a thing, hasn't it. If teams are prepared to dope then they'll be prepared to go scouting for more "known transgender athletes".

Sonex · 18/12/2021 12:11

good

viques · 18/12/2021 11:59

Just read a post on mollys Instagram in which they complain about objections to transwomen athletes in women’s sports . Molly claims this is cancel culture and says of the protesters “ they say it enough times it becomes real to them”.

No shit Sherlock, I wonder who else uses that tactic!

SydneyCarton · 18/12/2021 11:53

If Molly is, as they appear to be, an intact male who isn’t taking T suppressant medication, then how can they compete with the women? Or are the T level rules different here?

The irony of being chucked out of the mens race due to possessing a female driving licence is just chef’s kiss

Helleofabore · 18/12/2021 11:47

And to explain my post more:

Cameron says, “The women were at the bottom of the run-up holding up 'Save Women’s Sports' banners and they were targeting the women who are known transgender athletes. They were getting really loud and agro when these athletes were [racing] by, and they were on a part of the course where riders would pass by a few times, because it was a section of the course that looped back on itself. They had signs and they were putting them in [the athletes’] faces and shouting. There was also a group standing at a more distant part of the course with a large flag that they were waving onto the course, in addition to signage, and they were actively trying to disrupt and target individuals that were racing,”

It is then said that there were stewards there watching and making sure they didn’t get out of hand. And then the protest left.

So, lies and hyperbole from Cameron.

Then there is the fact that not one of those signs said ‘suck my tr**sdick, you cunts and protesters were not going up to trans people and telling them they were fat, needed plastic surgery or whatever the ones in front of the women in prisons session had to say.

Not one protester let off smoke bombs, or chased trans people with lit flares.

No. They had signs and a flag and probably yelled. And the stewards allowed them to stay because they did not do anything but yell and wave signs.

Fuck off Cameron, you obviously embellished the story because otherwise you had nothing.

REPENT MOTHERFUCKERS!!!!

lovelyweathertoday · 18/12/2021 11:42

All the links I can find are of a man, who should obviously be competing against the other men in the men's race.

nopuppiesallowed · 18/12/2021 11:39

Let's make this easier for people the world over by basing everything on chromosomes.
If you are XX you are a woman so you can compete in women's sports only.
If you are XY you are a man and can compete in men's sports only.
Mixed doubles have their own rules.
There are very few people who are not XX or XY.
I might be being thick here, and am happy to be corrected, but it seems pretty simple to me......

TurquoiseBaubles · 18/12/2021 11:35

If Molly is pissed off about not being allowed to compete with men, then Molly can campaign for the men's race to be inclusive of men with a non-man gender identity. Instead of complaining about the women's race not being inclusive of men with a non-man gender identity.

HoardingSamphireSaurus · 18/12/2021 11:31

@Neolara

I think Molly is keen to compete against men but has now been told they are not allowed to, which Molly probably thinks is pretty crap. I'm not sure Molly is the villain here. It's the ridiculous rules which are the problem.
The rules?

Or men claiming to be women

Or women men, obviously

It's the kind of confusion that occurs when material reality is denied.

Helleofabore · 18/12/2021 11:29

I mean if they had been genuinely ‘in their faces’ the stewards would have moved them. So, I read this has hyperbole.

I don’t think people realize the extent of pushing that people have to believe in one very obvious lie from a person does to their credibility over all.

Unpalatable, for sure. But that is what happens when you start warping facts to suit your own purposes.
