Help - waded in to JKR row on fb

A friend on fb has posted something about Fantastic Beasts. One of his friends (who I don't know) has commented that 'The author is a bitch'.

I would really like to say something that stimulates people to think, rather than just blindly swallowing the 'she's a hateful transphobe' line. I also know that this is a particularly woke audience, so any replies need to be minimalist and carefully crafted.

So far I have replied 'why?' And got the predictable reply about her views on trans people. I have asked what specifically she has said. I'm now trying to step away from the conversation for a day or so in case I become enraged by the inevitable nonsense and say something I will regret!

Any tips on a) what to say and
b) how to not lose my shit?

I hate seeing a woman being abused online by another woman, just for standing up for women's rights. It's depressing.

Thanks for taking the time to post those links WarriorN, all useful stuff.

To me, there is an additional issue here, on top of the mangled stats and allowing convicted rapists access to women (as if that wasn't bad enough! ) of affording additional respect/comfort to rapists that is not being afforded to their victims. The trauma of having to refer to your attacker as 'she' whilst trying to give an accurate account of what happened must be devastating.

In rape as in no other crime, the sex of the attacker is pertinent to the offence. Having to refer to the attacker as 'she' would add to the shame and distress and fear of not being believed - it's police sanctioned gaslighting. It may prevent cases being taken to court if the victim is concerned that this could happen. And all for the 'comfort and dignity' of the rapist.

1.4 million women in the UK have been raped, according to that BBC explainer. I wonder how many, if any, of the perpetrators identified as a woman before they committed those attacks? It defies all logic to change police policy like this.

"1 in 50 inmates ID as trans"

Bare in mind they're recorded as trans because it's self identification. Those with GRC are recorded as women.

So this is fundamentally an issue with self id in the female prison estate.

The data does harm trans people by proxy and allowing inaccurate data collection like this isn't helping anyone (and in real world is allowing rapists access to women in prison.)

WarriorN · 17/12/2021 07:42

I have just replied 'but isn't that talking about rapists being able to force their victims to refer to them as 'she' in court?..'

The specific issue is that males can say they're female and get recorded as such.

This isn't about trans people, it's the safeguarding and data collection around prison data.

These stats highlight the loopholes for male offenders to abuse.

All you can do then is link all the articles and research.

WarriorN · 17/12/2021 07:38

What specifically did she say"Recently she described transwomen as "penised individuals". Regardless what the context is that particular choice of words isn't going to sit well with many people.

No, she described rapists who self id as women as penised individuals.

There's a subtle and pertinent difference. Your statement is transphobic

WarriorN · 17/12/2021 07:36
You can share this that I wrote after the first time JKR was attacked online www.google.co.uk/amp/s/differently-normal.com/2020/06/10/example-post-3/amp/?client=safari
Thanks Clare

bordermidgebite · 17/12/2021 07:31

It is never the minds of the hard core that you will change , but you will give hope and courage to those who are scared to speak up and you may influence the minds of the undecided

And try to keep records of the cancelling and what led to them as one day the giants will be called out for the sexism they support

SkiingIsHeaven · 17/12/2021 07:23

Just step away.

You can't change a woke person's mind and you are not allowed an opinion if it doesn't match their brainwashed opinions.

You will just be attacked, called transphobic and then cancelled.

Some of the worst ones may ever take it further.

It is annoying but you are more likely to be sorry that you pointed out their errors than get some kind of satisfactory solution.

You cannot charge their minds.

I know it is wrong.

Theunamedcat · 17/12/2021 07:14

Make sure you save your Facebook content any pictures you dont want to be parted from Facebook are coming in heavy with the ban hammer lately I'm on my last warning for saying "thats simply not true" apparently that's bullying and I got accused of harassment and stalking too

bordermidgebite · 17/12/2021 07:09

So we can say transwoman and men for bepenised individuals but we have to say person who we would reasonably suppose to have a uterus instead of woman

How sweet to see such traditional sexism

ScreamingMeMe · 17/12/2021 06:45
@DdraigGoch who was it that lost a court case where they (a non trans person) had accused someone (a trans person) of being transphobic? There was definitely a case - I just can't remember the details.
That was Helen Islan, formerly of Mermaids, and transwoman Miranda Yardley.

But MargaritaPie,

If a man has transitioned to a woman you can just say transwoman. And transman for vice-versa',

we have said that in the past: say 'women and transmen' when talking about pregnancy, menopause etc, but that wasn't good enough. So if women and transmen are 'people with a uterus', men and transwomen are 'penised individuals'. This is not as we want it, but it is equality in action. Gander and goose as they say.

SolasAnla · 17/12/2021 00:23

Blackbird1234

If woman and female are deemed transphobic what words should be included in legislation which allows State funded health care for the following:
•Abortion?
•Prostate Cancer?

Waitwhat23 · 17/12/2021 00:16

@MargaritaPie so we can drop all the 'person with a cervix' stuff and just call women, women? Cool! Good to know!

Strange turn around by you though. I'm pretty sure you've been very TWAliterallyW in the past.

MargaritaPie · 16/12/2021 23:49

@bordermidgebite

But isn't that turn of phrase the one recommended by the trans community when talking about biology ?

So person with uterus, person who is pregnant ?

If a man has transitioned to a woman you can just say transwoman. And transman for vice-versa.
crunchermuncher · 16/12/2021 22:28

So there has been a reply... they have posted a link to the wonder woman article, which does quote the original tweet in full. I have just replied 'but isn't that talking about rapists being able to force their victims to refer to them as 'she' in court?..'

I'm not sure how the person I'm engaging with identifies and am worried that I've already said too much for the woker types in our social circle. Sigh.

So much hate for women. So much not giving a shit about rapists raping....words are literal violence Angry but rape? Meh.

Let's not forget c*s, which I for one find massively offensive.

But for some reason, that doesn't seem to matter. It's just a word. I should get over it.

What's good for the goose.....

But as we've understood with racism, homophobia etc there isn't necessarily one definition of it. I'm straight and white, therefore if I said something that a gay person or black person deems offensive and homophobic/racist to them then I'm not going to question it, I'll simply apologise and not say it again.

I'm an official homosexual. I find the use of the following words in this post homophobic:

But as we've understood with racism, homophobia etc there isn't necessarily one definition of it. I'm straight and white, therefore if I said something that a gay person or black person deems offensive and homophobic/racist to them then I'm not going to question it, I'll simply apologise and not say it again.

Could you please refrain from using each of these words. The word "it" for example is used more than once, which I find particularly egregious. You've also used "I", "I'm" and "I'll" which I find triggering because I identity as "I".

ditalini · 16/12/2021 21:55

Helen Islan vs Miranda Yardley.
