Haven't seen any thread on this - Lynda Carter has tweeted about the recent JkRowling tweet but doesn't she realise she's supporting male rapists?

She has received a tonne of replies all pointing it out to her - hasn't she read them? And if she doesn't read any of the replies, why bother tweeting?

Vivienne. Sorry. You are an anti trans extremist.

(TE*F is rather old hat, still used plenty though).

blameless · 18/12/2021 17:08

There was another thread about women masturbating in public.

One of those women ( www.gazettelive.co.uk/news/teesside-news/teesside-woman-accused-using-sex-22260053 ) was "charged with committing a public nuisance by indecently exposing her penis to other members of the public, whilst masturbating from a property window".

It's worrying that she might be happier in prison.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 18/12/2021 16:38

@Viviennemary

I am glad more and more folk are speaking out against all this trans bashing. I don't agree with men in womens prisons either. Doesn't mean I'm in favour of bigotry surrounding trans people. Its constant and getting very embarrassing.
Oh ohhh You’re a TERF. Don’t worry; we’re a friendly lot really. Welcome 🤗
Waitwhat23 · 18/12/2021 12:13

@Viviennemary if you believe that TWAW but also believe that men shouldn't be in women's prisons, you would be branded a transphobe by a vocal contingent of TRA's because TWAW.

Women have raised the issues around self ID and fears about predatory men taking advantage of it for years now but have been branded transphobes. There has been no acknowledgement that you can support trans rights but also have concerns about self ID.

I find it embarrassing that some people defend the right for male sexual offenders to be placed in the female estate on their own say so. The Judicial Review acknowledged that women will be at risk and in fear in such situations but ruled that it just isn't important. It shows an astounding lack of empathy but then, as we know, 'be kind' doesn't appear to extend to women.

Raising concerns is branded 'trans bashing' or a 'dog whistle'. I am glad that no debate has fallen and we can finally talk about these issues.

Great post, @NotBadConsidering; you've put it in a nutshell

NotBadConsidering · 18/12/2021 10:31

It’s not the nuance, it’s the Catch 22. If trans activists accept that these rapists are only claiming to be women to be placed in a women’s prison, they have to acknowledge that self-ID will bring such problems.

But those who claim these rapists are women if they say so, need to acknowledge that males, however they identify, pose a threat to women and need to be treated as a sex class for safety reasons.

I think they understand the issue, but can’t openly admit to themselves and others what is glaringly obvious.

AdaFuckingShelby · 18/12/2021 10:20

That's a good point rabbit . Too nuanced for the cess pit that is Twitter though. It's not catchy enough and takes more than a moment to think about.

rabbitwoman · 18/12/2021 08:40

I can understand where the TWAW set are coming from, though

I know a couple in real life and unlike on twitter, we can talk about it and see each others viewpoints and agree to disagree because a) I understand that in their heads they are trying to redefine the word 'woman' to mean something else rather than they actually believe TWAW, and b) they can understand that I don't actually want all trans people to die etc.

But JkRowling's latest tweet is specifically about rapists and other violent abusers CLAIMING to be trans women when they are not, and I cannot understand why anyone would condemn her for that unless they really do not understand the impacts of this issue!!

Lynda carter was wonder woman on TV when I was a kid.

She's not actually wonder woman though! I mean obviously. I can understand the disappointment but who knows what she's like, what her views are generally.

And she has been v vocal Twitter twaw for ages.

ZuttZeVootEeeVo · 16/12/2021 12:16

I highly doubt that Lynda Carter - or surely, anyone else in their right mind - would support putting male rapists in female prisons.

I very much doubt anyone actually thinks that's a good idea or a wise thing to do, but of course if you are going to insist TWAW upon their say so, that has to cover ANYONE who says so.

Well it happens, so obviously some people support it.

Given she must be aware of JKR tweet and she's decided to stress the importance of affirming gender identity, I'm not assuming she thinks male rapists in female prisons is a bad idea.

RoyalCorgi · 16/12/2021 10:04

It's extraordinary, isn't it, that misgendering a trans woman is "literal violence" but a rape victim being forced to call her rapist "she" is of no consequence whatsoever.

I think that JKR's tweet has exposed the fact that a lot of people jumping on this bandwagon really have no idea what they're talking about. Recording the sex of rapists as female is both intellectually and morally indefensible. There should be no more to it than that.

The fact that people like Lynda Carter are describing this view as "transphobic" suggests they are perfectly comfortable with the idea that trans women can be rapists - something that they're at pains to deny the rest of the time.

crunchermuncher · 16/12/2021 09:53

Not disadvantaged?

What about feeling gaslit? Of the trauma of having that awful experience minimised,
as you then have to explain that you were actually 'really' raped, with a penis, despite your attacker 'being a woman'?

Being believed and understood is a huge part of overcoming the shame of trauma, of understanding that it wasn't your fault. Its easier for our brains to think that a traumatic experience was caused by our own failings, as that feels more fixable than the terror of realising that we live in a world where sometimes horrific things just happen. Truth and clarity are key elements of healing trauma.

But no, who cares how a violated and traumatised woman feels? Angry

#bekind my arse.

timeisnotaline · 16/12/2021 08:59

@ErrolTheDragon

A man claiming that when a male rapes a female, the female is not disadvantaged in anyway by the difference in biology.

I think he meant she's not disadvantaged by the label the rapist chooses, rather than biology.... but still horribly crass and insensitive. And of course, he's not considering the effect on other women who the rapist may be imprisoned with.

He’s not considering women full stop. Who cares about those lesser people?

I’ve seen some horrific statement in regard to this topic but this is up there as being one of the worst.

So the voice in Linda's head is like

" yes, yes all valid points but.... MONEY!
Money money money money. Lovely money"

She is trying to cement her status as an lgbt+ icon as getting a few extra $$$ peddling this a
Stunningly brave, empowered love clap trap at a few conventions, panels and maybe a talk show or two.

I highly doubt that Lynda Carter - or surely, anyone else in their right mind - would support putting male rapists in female prisons.

I wouldn't be so sure. Worded like that, perhaps not. But if that male suddenly identifies as a female, with or without a sob story about only just realising they've always felt in the wrong body and how hard life has been and how scared they are of what'll happen to them in male prison (the story isn't actually needed anymore because there's been enough social conditioning for many people, "be kind" women in particular to make the link themselves), then many women appear to support their move to women's prisons. They see it as protective (kind) and the term "rapist" or "sexual offender" melts into the ether against the new label of The Most Oppressed and The Most Vulnerable.

So I would definitely not assume she doesn't support men in women's prisons. It's exactly what's happening already and in order for that to occur, there are supporters.

Is she afraid of becoming irrelevant

NotBadConsidering · 15/12/2021 22:21

If Wonder Woman threw the Lasso of Truth around these rapists and asked them if they genuinely identify as women, what would the answer be I wonder? Hmm

@ArtemesiaK

92 thousand likes! What a huge wall of idiocy we're up against! It's so depressing..... :(
But these are people supporting trans inclusion, not supporting Scottish prisons' policy on trans-identifying inmates.

The likes and positive responses to the tweet can't reasonably be interpreted as reflecting those responders' views on the original issue - they're just people clicking 'like' to a generic statement of being kind.

So I guess the idea is that you have to treat anyone who says they are a woman the same no matter what they have done - but why?

Why is it so hard to say that if someone has been found guilty of rape or any other violent crime against women they loose their right to be put in a female prison, why is that so hard? In Ireland, TiF cannot join the priesthood, so why not do a similar exemption for TiM who are convicted rapists?
