So says this article anyway

"Acting as an accelerator, the Internet maternity forum Mumsnet has grown over the years to become a hub for British transphobia. Many stay-at-home mothers have become convinced there of the danger that “transgender ideology” poses to their children."

Funny, I could've sworn I went to work yesterday, must have dreamed it Hmm

KittenKong · 15/12/2021 11:16

Really? I must have imagined working in the City, doing my post grads and professional qualifications, managing teams and... am I dreaming my boss?

This would explain a lot. Living in a fantasy world must be so wonderful.

Why do they hate their moms so much?

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 15/12/2021 11:15

I've asked my husband and he says I'm allowed to have my own political opinions on things despite being a SAHM Grin

(In fact, he agrees with us. Especially about Sport. )

WarOnWoman · 15/12/2021 11:15

Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

Who are Left Voice anyway.

Justme56 · 15/12/2021 11:13

Most prominent British transphobes also identify with the Labour Party????

NynaeveSedai · 15/12/2021 11:08

They like to claim we are all SAHMs as it suits their narrative that we have nothing of importance to add to the debate, we are all ignorant, boring, irrelevant, mumsy, out of date etc (nb not my views of SAHMs but theirs)
They don't like to think that we are lawyers, judges, doctors, teachers, nurses, politicians, policy makers, civil servants, CEOs and all kinds of other positions that have power over social change.
Again, not saying anything negative about SAHMs myself of course.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 15/12/2021 11:05

Pure DARVO at work.

Still, it's really encouraged me in my aspirations to be a writer. I'd previously assumed that you should know at least something about your subject matter before you try to speak authoritatively on it, but this piece has helped me to open up my tiny little mind and thoroughly disabused me of that ridiculous notion.

Hugely encouraged, I'm starting work this very afternoon on my exciting new piece about my experiences growing up as an Albanian royal goatherd in the 1740s - don't miss it if you want to learn about history from those who actually lived it!

BuffysBigSister · 15/12/2021 11:05

I'm not even a mum.....will I be banned??

Honestly, if they spent 5 minutes on here (not just on this part of mumsnet) they would be shocked at the depth of knowledge and experience on a huge range of topics - from law to education to Strictly and everything in between

Franca123 · 15/12/2021 11:05

Do you get the impression that some of these TRAs had really troubled relationships with their own mothers and now they're taking that out on all mothers and all women? Or am I overthinking it? I quite like my mum and think she's lovely. I don't understand people disliking mothers...... all the mum's I know are lovely.......

Chersfrozenface · 15/12/2021 11:04

The other bit of implied misogyny we can read into this is that stay at home mothers sponge off men.

It really is a misogynist full house.

Bellendejour · 15/12/2021 11:01

Got to ‘puberty blockers are safe’ and had to stop reading before I threw my phone across the room. PUBERTY BLOCKERS ARE NOT SAFE!!!!!! Even this transition-friendly outline from the Mayo clinic points out that we don’t know what the long term effects are and they may impact on growth, bone growth and density and future fertility.

www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/gender-dysphoria/in-depth/pubertal-blockers/art-20459075

WHY THE FUCK ARE PUBLICATIONS PRINTING THESE LIES?!?!?!?

Christ I’m so fucked off with this all.

Keke94LND · 15/12/2021 10:59

It's funny cause I have a job and I'm also not a mum hahaha, not middle aged either, so I don't fit the stereotype of a supposed 'transphobe' or 'Karen'

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 15/12/2021 10:58

What is a “mother”, actually? Can they define what that is?

Franca123 · 15/12/2021 10:56

Isn't the guardian also in that compact tabloid shape?

Masdintle · 15/12/2021 10:52

The Times is tabloid shaped, though Grin

PineappleCakes · 15/12/2021 10:51

One of the reasons I love MN is of course why many people hate it. Because it's full of rational, analytical, articulate, honest women saying it how they see it and airing and sharing ideas, including thinking, disagreement and mind-changing being part of that.
I feel the same too @MrsMadderRose. Honestly, the FWR board(s) totally made me rethink my previously held assumptions about MN. FWR has been a treasure trove of intelligent, thoughtful discussion. Thank you to all the wonderful women postingFlowers

Franca123 · 15/12/2021 10:51

So strange that now you're the bad guy if you're a mother and you worry about children taking life altering drugs which are proven harmful. I want my children to be healthy and have a natural puberty. Shock horror! I'm basically Donald Trump! I thought the weird mention of mention of brexit was telling. We're not actually arguing about trans stuff. We're on the wrong side of a huge culture war. There's a big bucket labeled 'progressive' and a big bucket labelled 'far right' and we've been tossed into the far right bucket. Bonkers.

PaleGreenGhost · 15/12/2021 10:50

@WorriedMumsDontSleep

Nothing wrong with stay at home mothers if your circumstances demand it.

#Mum work is work doesn't quite have the following it should though, does it.

Tbh that slogan really should catch on. After all, isn't it in the interest of teenage boys that mum continues picking up their dirty washing etc?
BraveBananaBadge · 15/12/2021 10:50

I've never read so much over-dramatic, woman-hating shit in my life. Julian Vile by name, vile by nature.

Modern-day transphobia, embodied by the Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist (TERF) movement,

No. Just no. Surely 'modern day transphobia' comes from the men kicking trans people's heads in and those demonstrating real prejudice, not women discussing and defending their rights.

As much as I read of this bilge kept making reference to women acting 'under the guise' of concerns about... women and children. Christ, aren't we awful and sneaky.

In a world awash with bad faith takes, this should win a fucking prize. If this is really what people think women don't stand a chance.

Whatthechicken · 15/12/2021 10:49

That’s an awful lot of emotive and dramatic words to describe stay-at-home- mums who ‘rarely mobilise’ outside the ‘galaxy of Twitter accounts and shadow organisations’. We must be very powerful indeed if our mere presence online being pro-women and all, sparks headlines such as ‘ A TE*F-Far Right Alliance Has Launched a New Transphobic Onslaught’.

MrsMadderRose · 15/12/2021 10:48

Also fails to recognise that mothers might in general have some insight into things like, you know, how kids can get waylaid by fads, influenced by social media, need kudos at school, change their mind about stuff ...

Franca123 · 15/12/2021 10:47

It's like it's written by an alien. The Times is a tabloid? 'Internet maternity Forum mumsnet'?! Who talks like that. Plus I thought it was exclusionary to talk about mothers. Is mother now a slur? There is nothing wrong inherently with being a stay at home mother. Having said that, I've never got the impression that the people here were disproportionately stay at home mums? I'm certainly not...... All very odd. It is always interesting to see the opposing views arguments or lack thereof. They certainly haven't managed to describe my terf radicalisation in any accurate way at all.

Whatwouldscullydo · 15/12/2021 10:47

So?

What's wrong with stay at home mothers ? Someone's gotta look after the small children and keep stuff going while entitled little shits spend their time pushing to gain children access to dangerous drugs and adult males.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 15/12/2021 10:44

Amazing how they cannot help but reveal their misogyny, isn’t it?!

Bellendejour · 15/12/2021 10:43

Yes how transphobic to not want our children confused by a load of genderwoo bobbins from age three and up. FUCK OFF AWAY FROM OUR KIDS WHOSE PARENTS LOVE AND CHERISH THEM AND WANT THEM TO DEVELOP NATURALLY AND HAPPILY THEIR OWN WAY WITHOUT YOUR BULLSHIT FUCKING DEMIFURRIKINS BOLLOCKS

MrsMadderRose · 15/12/2021 10:36

*Many stay-at-home mothers OF ALL KINDS have become convinced there REALISED the danger that “transgender ideology” poses to their children."

One of the reasons I love MN is of course why many people hate it. Because it's full of rational, analytical, articulate, honest women saying it how they see it and airing and sharing ideas, including thinking, disagreement and mind-changing being part of that.

And amazingly these thoughtful and intelligent women can be EITHER sahms or working mums, and even more amazingly, a sahm and a working parent can be the same person at different times, even on different days of the week.

This desperation to slag off sahms as stupid and conservative pearl-clutchers just reveals a) total failure to understand the reality of having DC and b) sexism extraordinaire.
