So says this article anyway

"Acting as an accelerator, the Internet maternity forum Mumsnet has grown over the years to become a hub for British transphobia. Many stay-at-home mothers have become convinced there of the danger that “transgender ideology” poses to their children."

Funny, I could've sworn I went to work yesterday, must have dreamed it Hmm

It was badly phrased because it's a bit of a sore topic for me at the moment.

My child is nursery age, but has more complex needs than his peers, so our decision is very much based on finance and need- In the back of my mind I think a bit of nursery for baby/work for me would be good, but circumstances are more complicated. That's what I was trying badly to get across, that either choice is fine but the same choice not good for all circumstances.

and if it's nothing to do with circumstances demanding it, is it still ok?
That was poorly phrased. What i meant was most sahm do it for financial reasons or because it gives the best chance for children as it gives a 1:1 experience they don't get in childcare.
It was more saying it's fine to go to work too if able or better to, IE. I'm not saying sahm is superior or inferior.

But in my case if was largely a financial decision.“

I’ve now seen this ( only a few posts, difficult to keep up) but understand my reply was without full knowledge.

I’m not here to have a fight about WOHW women (sometimes also mothers) vs SAHW (sometimes also mothers), so thank you for clarification.

It’s one of the main points of feminism for me: choice.

Gingercake2018 · 15/12/2021 16:54

@FOJN
Can I assume that as I'm not a SAHM my TFtastic veiws are more credible than those of your average domesticate birthing person?

I'm part time so no idea what level of credibility I have. However when I do work i earn more than twice my DHs hourly rate, which I'm sure would blow their tiny misogynistic minds!!

FOJN · 15/12/2021 16:48

Never go after Kiwi Farms do they?

That would be signposting people to where the receipts for the things we can't talk about here can be found.

Thank you for that reply/question.

My SAHM time was by choice. Not demands via circumstances.

And yes, I’ve checked my privilege. Hmm

Floisme · 15/12/2021 16:43

I think the fact that only one sex can be a mum has always grated with a certain kind of man.

Leafstamp · 15/12/2021 16:26

I've not RTFT but mums are not the only ones who know how harmful gender identity ideology is to children and young people. I know people who aren't parents - teachers, grandparents, academics, counsellors, social workers and more - who are campaigning against this ideology's infiltration and influence.

One of LGB Alliance 3 main priorities is to protect children who may grow up to be lesbian, gay or bisexual from thinking that body or personality is somehow in need of changing.

Gingercake2018 · 15/12/2021 16:15

Is mother now a slur?
Presumably they have realised they are not going to win the right to the title mother, and from the moment that they realised that it has become an insult to, try and, use against (actual) women.

ShagMeRiggins · 15/12/2021 15:50

@KittenKong

Never go after Kiwi Farms do they?
No. Never mentioned. I r always assumed a) don’t know about it, b) appears to be mostly men, c) KiwiFarms falls into the right wing and is easily dismissed.
WorriedMumsDontSleep · 15/12/2021 15:48

My bad. Was a pretty crucial conjunction. (Llama face)

LuckyAmy1986 · 15/12/2021 15:44

@WorriedMumsDontSleep yeah sorry, I took it the wrong way! See what you meant now Smile

Haha - my comment was a joke and it got deleted Grin

@BunnyBerries

I just LOVE how that article writer thinks that "real life activists" have to "occupy public space" out in the cold, probably with their balaclavas on and big cardboard signs in order to gain any public support, or influence any public policy.

Not go to work behind the scenes with cups of Brew doing fearless FOIs, digging for causes, emailing MPs and having quiet words with the school principal on new policies.

Keep thinking that mate. You'll never find us

This is true. This is the best way “activism” works—organised yet individual, articulate, based on facts. Critical arguments (in the best sense).

Not shouting (though protests can be noticed), not rambling, not mantras.

Stonewall made a good go of it, I have to admit, but I believe they preyed on political and social fear. They should never have added the T.

(As an aside, I do wonder whether employees of businesses/government bodies that are Stonewall champions feel any better in their place of work.. Which assumes they felt bad in the first place, which is wrong and unproven.)

galaxy of Twitter accounts and shadow organisations

I love how all 6 of us have 000000s of Twitter accounts ( where we find the time I do not know) and now we have shadow organisations? Whatever they are. Mi5 we ain't.
But how does 6 people entirely overrun Twitter and run shadow organisations and think of things like man Friday and I heart jk and more importantly pay for this stuff?

FionaMacCool · 15/12/2021 14:55

@KittenKong

Exactly Kitten..... that makes plain that the issue actually is "women shut up and do what we tell you". Not trans rights Not LGB needs Not safe spaces Just old fashioned, non-thinking, knee-jerk, immature misogyny.
Terfydactyl · 15/12/2021 14:48

@RoyalCorgi

We've discussed before the ubiquity of Schrodinger's Mumsnetter - simultaneously a feather-brained middle-class mum looking after her precious baby and being supported by her husband and an evil witch hell bent on the genocide of vulnerable trans people.

Anything, anything at all rather than engage with the arguments.

Spat my tea out. God yous lot are funny. Every thread here on fwr theres an absolute gem of a joke somewhere. Love it for that alone.

And I've not read the article but were we all misgendered?
I ask because no one asked me my gender or sex or pronouns before writing said article.

'Mum Work Is Work' is hilarious.

Bet they don't start painting that on their cardboard sticks.

'There's No Mum in Cis' or 'No Cis in Mum'.... or er, something

fournonblondes · 15/12/2021 14:14

@Franca123

So strange that now you're the bad guy if you're a mother and you worry about children taking life altering drugs which are proven harmful. I want my children to be healthy and have a natural puberty. Shock horror! I'm basically Donald Trump! I thought the weird mention of mention of brexit was telling. We're not actually arguing about trans stuff. We're on the wrong side of a huge culture war. There's a big bucket labeled 'progressive' and a big bucket labelled 'far right' and we've been tossed into the far right bucket. Bonkers.
It really does not take much for people calling you far right or Trumpist tbh. I am not surprised.

Also, the left negates evidence. This morning a poster was saying that California is not a red state because of Ronald Reagan. Incredible how they can do things like this.

Waitwhat23 · 15/12/2021 14:14

It all comes down to to some people's fury at those silly old mummies not shutting up and doing as they're told, doesn't it? An attitude heady with sexism and ageism.

The high level of intelligence and debate from women on here, from all backgrounds and walks of life is astonishing - no wonder it's simultaneously mocked and feared - you have to be able to robustly argue and evidence your point here where is where many TRA's fall down.

KittenKong · 15/12/2021 13:53

Never go after Kiwi Farms do they?

SloeFox · 15/12/2021 13:47

if that makes sense. (It does in my fluffy mumsy irrelevant brain.)

SloeFox · 15/12/2021 13:46

TBH I think it is funny how Mnetters are routinely dismissed as being irrelevant by articles that simultaneously make clear how powerful we are and how powerful MN is as a forum, because otherwise the articles would not get so worried about us.

RoyalCorgi · 15/12/2021 13:45

@Echobelly

I don't always agree with views on trans issues here, but I do quite often find myself asking people to just listen to themselves when talking about mumsnet and to realise how unacceptably misogynistic it should be to be sneeringly paint 'mums' as all one thing or another and imply mums must be stupid, politically ignorant, overprotective, pearl clutching etc.
I think they probably don't really care. The narrative goes like this: women on this forum (women's rights) are all mothers and that makes us a bit stupid, a bit narrow-minded and very over-anxious about our children. That makes us very receptive to scaremongering about trans people. Therefore all we need is to be educated about how un-threatening trans people are and we'll all be OK.

It must be an endless source of frustration to them that, despite the endless attempts to "educate" us, we still persist. Obviously part of this is because their attempts to educate us have been so counter-productive - threatening to report women to their employers, out them on social media, rape them, torture them or kill them - hasn't, oddly enough, proved to be hugely reassuring.

But the other part, of course, is that we are, quite simple, much much cleverer than them. And they can't stand it.
