Ok, I'm just having a rant and I know FB groups are free to set their own rules.
I've been following a fab FB group, (Home for Peculiar Artists 2), post goes up from admin saying this is a reminder, we don't allow anything Harry Potter or JKR related, if you don't know why then educate yourself. Lots of supportive replies.
I'm on the group in my real name, so I'm not going to weigh in, but it hugely fucks me off, so many people just believing lies with no dissent allowed. Just makes me think this whole thing is insurmountable.

And you do realize that the mere existence of this kind of segregation is upholding gender, right?

The fact that 1 in 5 women is subjected to attempted or completed rape in her life is "upholding gender".

The figures on sexual harassment in the UK are "upholding gender".

Deal with how women are treated in spaces where we are fully clothes and then we will talk about how some men feel unhappy that they don't get to change with women at the swimming pool

extract

More than four-fifths of young women in the UK have been subjected to sexual harassment, according to a survey for UNWomenUK, which warns that most women have lost faith that the abuse will be dealt with.

Among women aged 18-24, 86% said they had been sexually harassed in public spaces, while just 3% did not recall ever having experienced sexually harassing behaviour. The remaining 11% chose not to answer the question.

According to the survey, published in areport by the all-party parliamentary group (APPG) for UN Women, 71% of women of any age said they had experienced sexual harassment in public spaces

We are looking at a situation where younger women are constantly modifying their behaviour in an attempt to avoid being objectified or attacked, and older women are reporting serious concerns about personal safety if they ever leave the house in the dark – even during the daytime in winter.”

No it is maintaining sex segregation.

It is actually showing how flexible gender is because the genders will be mixed between the two sex groups.

People who identify as women and men will be in both groups which is surely thoroughly progressive no?

How can a group of naked women know that a penis is a woman's penis, when it isn't?

Wavedancer99 · 06/12/2021 02:12

@Enough4me

No stalls are for horses. When I use my gym/swimming changing facilities I see naked women's breasts and external genitalia because it's a regular women's communal area, and they see mine as I am a woman.

No penis would be welcome.

Unless it's a trans man's penis, since clearly, a trans man would have to keep using female facilities.
PurgatoryOfPotholes · 06/12/2021 02:11

While we're discussing cubicles in changing areas.

A Peeping Tom left a 15-year-old swimmer terrified of getting changed when he used a mobile phone to film her over the top of a cubicle. Edward Smith locked himself in a neighbouring cubicle in the mixed gender changing area as a group of swimmers aged ten to 17 were ending a training session.

He waited for the swimmers to get out and then held his hand up to take photos of the naked girl, who screamed in horror when she spotted his phone.

Smith fled the changing room at the Exe Valley Leisure Centre in Tiverton but police released a grainy CCTV image which led to the 40-year-old farmer being identified and arrested.

Analysts then found images on his phone and computer which proved he had done the same thing at the same swimming pool twice before.

@endlesswinter

Actually personally my focus is keeping male sexed bodies out of female sexed bodies spaces.

I don't really care what they call themselves.

@endlesswinter

Sexed bodies aren't a label so much as a physical reality. If people can't understand that then I have no confidence that they can take issues like child protection seriously.
The words "man" and "woman" are labels that you're choosing to impose.

Nothing about "sexed bodies" demands strict imposition of those labels. It is purely your choice to do so, imposing those labels on others, against their will.

@Wavedancer99

"Now I want you to go a step further, and accept that I might always mean that."

I don't give a shit what you "mean", you are imposing unwanted labels on people, labels that you know carry social weight (which you're knowingly and willfully weaponizing) and I do not consent to that.

Then you cannot conduct a conversation. You may as well monologue in a dramatic manner to your bathroom mirror.
endlesswinter · 06/12/2021 02:03

Stalls is an American word.

AnotherOneWithNoGoodName · 06/12/2021 02:02

Also, do stalls simply not exist in your world?

Are you in the UK? Because the majority of changing rooms I have been in at pools, gyms etc here in the UK are open spaces, not individual rooms.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 06/12/2021 02:01

Because whether or not someone has a penis is really none of your businesses?

Also, do stalls simply not exist in your world?

In very many public buildings, they indeed don't. Getting the local council to keep the swimming pool open is battle enough. There is no money to refurbish the entirety of the changing area. Besides, stalls are not a perfect solution.

The Heritage foundation is in the USA, do you have UK examples?

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 06/12/2021 01:59

@endlesswinter

Ok. So trans women should receive healthcare which acknowledges the physical reality of their male sexed bodies.

But females shouldn't ever acknowledge the reality of trans women male sexed bodies.

Do you see any imbalance in that view? There is plenty of space for compromises in this debate but not by denying physical realities.

The earth just isn't flat.

Physical reality matters when denying it would cause male people to suffer.

Interesting.

Wavedancer99 · 06/12/2021 01:58

@Enough4me

If characteristics are acceptable for health care, (male catheters), why are we supposed to imagine a penis is female in a changing room?

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 06/12/2021 01:58

@Wavedancer99

"So, about those catheters. Is it an infringement of trans rights if a male catheter is used on a male patient?"

Obviously physical characteristics should be considered in medical contexts, to provide the best possible medical care.

But we're not talking about that. We are talking about your constant attempts to impose social categorization and segregation on the basis of those physical characteristics outside medical context.

Right. So physical reality exists. You accept that when I am talking about catheters, I am only talking about physical reality of bodies.

Now I want you to go a step further, and accept that I might always mean that.

Wavedancer99 · 06/12/2021 01:56

@PurgatoryOfPotholes

IIRC, the trans rights lobby groups allied with religious groups so that the right could be granted to trans people, but not gay men, lesbians and bisexuals with a same-sex partner.

Interesting, isn't it

Hahaha, now you're just living in opposite world, as if religious conservative organizations like Heritage Foundation aren't currently backing the "gender critical" movement.

foxgoosefinch · 06/12/2021 01:52

@Wavedancer99

"You believe this about those words. We do not believe it. We are using the terms in different ways. If you can't accept and acknowledge this, even if you disagree with it, the discussion will go nowhere."

The thing is, you insist on imposing your definitions of terms on trans women, and demand involuntary labeling, categorization, and segregation.

That is unacceptable.

Oh really. You must know you’re talking rubbish.

Look, @Wavedancer99. (Were you born in 1999?) You’re obviously quick and bright. So either you’re just arguing specious sophistry knowing it’s rubbish, or (more likely), you suspect that there are holes and incoherences in what you’re arguing because - well, because, anyone decently bright enough can see them. And you probably suspect that if you let yourself acknowledge it, you know the whole house of this fantasised pseudo-poststructuralism would fall down (I call it this to distinguish it from actual poststructuralism which is far more sophisticated than gender ideology).

But, do yourself a favour. Put your intellect to better use and abandon all this silly undergraduate style stuff. Do some serious reading and learn to think properly, and not just regurgitate all this social media idiocy. I’ve never known a really clever person be taken in by all of this. Don’t waste your time with it - learn how to do real philosophy and real theory.

Night night. It’s been fun.

Enough4me · 06/12/2021 01:52

It's not transphobic to state sex exists, it's real and cannot be swapped through feelings anymore than it's possible to change species.
