Ok, I'm just having a rant and I know FB groups are free to set their own rules.
I've been following a fab FB group, (Home for Peculiar Artists 2), post goes up from admin saying this is a reminder, we don't allow anything Harry Potter or JKR related, if you don't know why then educate yourself. Lots of supportive replies.
I'm on the group in my real name, so I'm not going to weigh in, but it hugely fucks me off, so many people just believing lies with no dissent allowed. Just makes me think this whole thing is insurmountable.

OP posts:

No, you just keep FALSELY conflating the labels "man" and "woman" with sex, when they're both gender categories socially constructed *AROUND" sex.

No, that's just your opinion, based on a worldview many virtually all people do not share. Man simply means adult human male and woman adult human female. Like a stag is an adult male deer. A mare is an adult female horse.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/12/2021 07:50

Look, @Wavedancer99. (Were you born in 1999?) You’re obviously quick and bright. So either you’re just arguing specious sophistry knowing it’s rubbish, or (more likely), you suspect that there are holes and incoherences in what you’re arguing because - well, because, anyone decently bright enough can see them. And you probably suspect that if you let yourself acknowledge it, you know the whole house of this fantasised pseudo-poststructuralism would fall down (I call it this to distinguish it from actual poststructuralism which is far more sophisticated than gender ideology).

But, do yourself a favour. Put your intellect to better use and abandon all this silly undergraduate style stuff. Do some serious reading and learn to think properly, and not just regurgitate all this social media idiocy. I’ve never known a really clever person be taken in by all of this. Don’t waste your time with it - learn how to do real philosophy and real theory.

Some good advice!

I would definitely not approve of trans people being restricted to third spaces

They wouldn't be, they could also choose to use the appropriate space for their sex.

EndoplasmicReticulum · 06/12/2021 07:23

Do these visitors all have the same list of things to say? It's like they've been on a training course.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 06/12/2021 07:14

Ah I see we had another visitor to help us play bingo!

And I’m of course shocked that they chose to come here & wag their metaphorical finger at women rather than trot over to pistonheads to lecture men on being nicer to gender non confirming men

It’s almost as if they’re exactly aware which sex is expected to be the one that does the telling and which one is expected to do the listening….

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 06/12/2021 07:10

And you do realize that the mere existence of this kind of segregation is upholding gender, right?

When males stop murdering females at the rate of 3 a week, and stop raping and assaulting us in our thousands, then maybe we can talk about whether sex segregated spaces are 'upholding gender' or not, yes?

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 06/12/2021 07:08

Do you think it was "black superiority" to end racial segregation without paying any regard to the "concerns" around letting black people into "white spaces"?

Please.

Your appropriation of racism is vile.

Only men could oppress women for thousands of years, then decide that they not only want to insert themselves into the oppressed class of women, but also then claim that they are more oppressed than women, and that women are oppressing them.

Wanting certain spaces and provision segregated by sex is nothing like racial segregation, and it is offensive of you to claim that it is.

Unmerited · 06/12/2021 06:38

*rocket out of the tomboys might be my best typo yet. Ticket out of the tombola!

Unmerited · 06/12/2021 06:37

This ‘assigned’ bollocks. Honestly, it’s not a lucky dip or a rocket out of the tomboys. It’s your biological sex. Observed.

DBI78 · 06/12/2021 04:11

I don't personally agree with her views but she is entitled to have the conversation and feel boycotting her is harsh I would bet a lot of the people agreeing haven't researched it at all, just jumped on the bandwagon.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 06/12/2021 02:54

I have been distressed before by self-styled trans-activists claiming transmen should be placed in men's prisons. No regard for how transmen are at risk of corrective rape, at all.

endlesswinter · 06/12/2021 02:43

That is a very valid point purgatory, transmen shouldn't be placed in the male estate for their own safety.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 06/12/2021 02:42

I wonder whether your implications are even in the interest of someone like Buck Angel.

In the event Buck or any transman was sent to prison, a sentence in a men's prison would pose a wholly unacceptable level of danger.

endlesswinter · 06/12/2021 02:38

Trans people aren't being restricted to third spaces, but if they aren't comfortable with the same sex provision and I can see how this could be case then they should request them.

Wavedancer99 · 06/12/2021 02:36
@Wavedancer99 why not investigate 3rd spaces as you have noted the common issue that male and female changing facilities are not suitable for trans people?
I would definitely not approve of trans people being restricted to third spaces, but unisex spaces should definitely also exist as a general rule.

endlesswinter · 06/12/2021 02:29

The other option is trans people arrange third spaces that meet their needs in the way people with disabilities have done and family spaces.

endlesswinter · 06/12/2021 02:28

Given the difference in sexual assault levels you may find men are more relaxed about biological women in their spaces.
I suggest you find some men and ask them.

Statistically women are safer sharing their private spaces with trans men.

Women aren't responsible for men's behavior, maybe if they sort themselves out you could get back to us on letting them into our spaces.

Enough4me · 06/12/2021 02:28

Enough4me · 06/12/2021 02:25

Women can change their pronouns and features, but most don't have full surgery and they don't sexually assault other women at the rate men do.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 06/12/2021 02:23

Do the men object to Buck in the changing rooms? Go and find out.

In fact, go and ask Buck for personal guidance and recommendations. We are setting our boundaries. It's not for us to tell men what they want and don't want.

Enough4me · 06/12/2021 02:22

Female changing room for females, so yes females use them.

Enough4me · 06/12/2021 02:21

I think the more mature women would probably physically help a man to leave the women's facilities TBH.

Wavedancer99 · 06/12/2021 02:21

@Enough4me

There is no way the woman in my gym would be happy to be naked in front of strange men exposing themselves. It isn't progressive to deny this reality.
So, what if a trans man needs to use a changing room? Should someone like Buck Angel use the women's changing rooms on account of being "biologically female"?
PurgatoryOfPotholes · 06/12/2021 02:20

Unless it's a trans man's penis, since clearly, a trans man would have to keep using female facilities.

If the men object to the transman in their spaces, then yes. Go make a thread on pistonheads and ask.

As the vast majority don't pursue phalloplasties, transmen are far more at risk in the men's area, because of the risk of rape if they are recognised as female.
