Not sure if it's anywhere else, but according Guido Fawkes, a Labour member has been suspended for saying on Facebook that only women go through the menopause.

We live close to Rosie Duffield's constituency, and he has always supported her. I think that seeing how she is treated by the party (and there is a lot of vitriol aimed her way in the local branch), reinforced everything I had been saying to him about Labour (I've been a very unsupportive political wife, I'm afraid). He started seeing how blatant the misogyny is, he became very vocal in his support of Rosie. He can't believe that someone reported his post, or that it was taken seriously enough to suspend him. I'm less surprised.

This is my husband. He has been a committed member of his Labour Party branch, a lot of his spare time has been spent working for the local party, and he was campaigning for a neighbouring council by-election right up to the moment he opened that email. This is as much about branch politics as anything, and I am very glad that it is blowing up in their faces. Recent health problems encouraged him to decided to resign rather than fight the suspension and he felt that even if he fought it, he has lost his trust in the other members of his branch who reported him rather than respect a difference of opinion. If you challenge a suspension, you are not supposed to talk about the reasons behind the suspension, and, he felt that this was something that needed to be talked about.

He says he is simultaneously euphoric at getting this off his chest, and heartbroken that his party has betrayed him.

Another one thanking your husband for exposing this toxic, anti-women bullying ideology at the heart of the Labour Party. Like so many, I'm desperate to be shot of this appalling government but with science denial and misogyny running amok, my vote will have to go elsewhere.

Thank him from the many women I know. What can we do to help?

Please tell him that women thousands of miles away appreciate what he's done.

@RepentMotherfucker

If this doesn't make it into the Daily Mail I am going to complain to Ofcom that they are not carrying out their remit of finding stupid things the left has done in order to make their readers shout, 'This Is Insane!' over their cornflakes.

C'mon DM, let's be having you!

I'm not waiting for the cornflakes but shouting out 'Insane bunch of twits!' when I see the pompous Draft Charge sheet with its three very unremarkable statements of everyday observation.

Craziness gone mad! Excuse me while I head over to the Daily Mail without further delay.

Well done to him but how awful for him (and you). I hope he finds something worthwhile and fulfilling to do and that his health improves or at least stays stable Flowers

dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 18/11/2021 20:30

Labour cannot ignore 51% population forever but looks like they are happy to prolong things and be in eternal opposition.

dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 18/11/2021 20:28

For clarification I have always believed in sex based rights. So disappointed that all left and centre parties in the UK have swallowed this gender identity ideology nonsense.

Kudos to your husband. I resigned when Corbyn was elected. I'm a bit of a convert to 'freedom of speech/sex based rights' these days.

Do trans men experience menopause, or does it happen artificially if someone is taking testosterone?
I had a hysterectomy a few years back but kept my ovaries so didn't go through menopause at the time. However, after a while of 'inactivity' they do start to shut down. I went through early menopause not long after and I was warned this was pretty standard.

Also, cross sex hormones can cause some transmen to need hysterectomy as it can cause atrophy. So yes they will experience menopause, probably earlier than if they hadn't transitioned. I think Buck Angel has been very outspoken about then need for transmen to be made aware of this as part of their transition treatment.

I am glad your husband spoke up. I hope he is able to find support elsewhere in the Party.

Like PPs, I hope the press get hold of this and publicise this madness far and wide.

What a cult....the Conservatives deserve to be in power for ever

Whatever labour do, it doesn’t make that corrupt collection of bastards we currently have any more deserving of power. The most they can ever aspire to be is slightly less undeserving.

Someone is indulging in "conduct prejudicial and/or grossly detrimental to the party" in this incident, but it's not Mr House.

AnyFucker · 18/11/2021 19:11

Labour will never get back in power while they have that wet lettuce leading them

foxgoosefinch · 18/11/2021 19:09

I honestly cannot see why they don’t change course, Gaspode. They must either have people polling for them telling them it’s disastrous and they’re ignoring it; or (I suspect) they’re not even asking the right questions. From his cervix bollocks I suspect that Starmer has been captured on this, but it’s utterly, utterly disastrous as a party policy, and any leader with any skill at all would be trying to reverse course as fast as possible. Talk about echo chambers Sad

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 18/11/2021 19:05

Labour is finished. Absolutely finished. We have one of the worst governments in history and even at the end of a horrendous fortnight for the Tories Labour is only edging ahead in the polls.

At work last month there was a message on the front page of our intranet about Menopause Day - without any mention whatsoever of the words 'woman' or 'female'.

Apparently 51% of the population are affected by it, but who exactly is a complete mystery!

I joke but I was genuinely upset to see an example of this in real life for the first time. How dare my employer treat 'woman' and 'female' as dirty words.

RobotValkyrie · 18/11/2021 18:55

@DogDaysNeverEnd

Do trans men experience menopause, or does it happen artificially if someone is taking testosterone?
"Trans men" are women (= adult human females) so it doesn't really matter, does it?

... but yeah, they would go through some weird changes if/when their female hormones get switched off. Taking male hormones on top would alleviate some symptoms, but not all. You can't change sex, but you can mess up your body by trying to do so.

When it comes to biology/medicine, made up social categories and gender feelings aren't particularly relevant. The only definition of man/woman that makes sense in that context is the male/female sex binary.

KittenKong · 18/11/2021 18:04

I saw this on twitter too. Didn’t realised he’d been suspended!

Why the hell they can’t say - ‘women go through the menopause. Even if they refer to themselves in other terms’ I do not know.

DraigFach · 18/11/2021 17:52

@DogDaysNeverEnd

Do trans men experience menopause, or does it happen artificially if someone is taking testosterone?
Eventually transmen will experience menopause even if they don't opt for medical intervention with their transition...because at some point the mechanics of their biology will halt like any women's will at the time their body deems right.
DraigFach · 18/11/2021 17:50

A concession can be made that non-binary folk and transmen can also experience menopause but I'd bet money that's not the audience Gil House has offended with their "only women" comment.

Another reason to keep a decent distance from Labour as a voter for the foreseeable.
