Nobody knows why there are women and there are men?

What made her say that? I don't know how gravity works to be fair, or even why it exists. But I just don't see the relevance. Then there was her insistence that the majority of women agree with her , as a substitute for a decent argument perhaps.

Do we seriously have a whole generation of people that don't know why there are two sexes and what differentiates those sexes?

Is she a journalist? Because 'why' was entirely the wrong word.

It wouldn't make sense even if she had said what she presumably meant to say which is that she doesn't believe there is a clear definition of man and woman - rather there is a spectrum of gender. But saying 'why' just confuses the issue even more.

Poor Ellie - maybe she should go on OJ's special course for the jornalistically credulous.

It's just bonkers. How are people getting away with rewriting scientific fact and ignoring the laws of science and evolution? Why are people sucking it up so easily as well!

Mind you. At the end of that section of the discussion, she also lied and said not one woman was harmed by a transitioned male (YES.... MALE ELLIE) in prison.

Umm.... MoJ admitted that 7 women have been raped by transitioned males in the women's prison.

But of course, it takes being widely read and informed to know that so I can understand.

Oh wait.... she is a lead in a Labour think tank.... well...

Giving her the benefit of the doubt, maybe she meant that nobody knows why a particular ovum is fertilised by a Y sperm rather than an X sperm? I certainly don't know why number one child is male and number two child is female, and I'd be surprised if anyone does know.

Doesn't stop the soundbite making her sound, erm, confused, though.

My Y6 kid has just been covering this in Science. The slides are really short, with lots of simple words, and even some pictures. I can ask the school to share them, if that would help?

I know. But I'm a boring old scientist. This does prove rather well that the English exam system needs an overhaul so that everyone has some post 16 education in science. Data really helps with this kind of quandary.

There I was believing my school biology teacher when he told us that the point of sexual reproduction was genetic mixing, thus reducing the impact of harmful mutations and allowing beneficial ones to spread.

Should I rather have been listening to a bunch of arts graduates say 'I don't know much about science' at length, instead?
