Nobody knows why there are women and there are men?

According to Ellie Mae O'Hagan of the CLASS think tank:

"I don't know why some people are women and some people are men, nobody on this panel does"

Crikey, I know things are bad, but I didn't know we had reached Defcon 1 already.

SCR0071 knows the score, for too long we have been letting bacteria trail along on our coattails. Alowing anyting to claim the title of 'Alive' just because it can move, resperate, eat/poos and reproduce.
Move over single cell organisms, we've raised the bar!

Igneococcus · 18/11/2021 21:32

We wouldn't even notice if they'd all suddenly disappeared dyslek

dyslek · 18/11/2021 21:29

Fuck the microbes, what have they ever done for anyone.

Clymene · 18/11/2021 21:28

This thread has taken a turn for the brilliantly entertaining

Igneococcus · 18/11/2021 21:27

We will also have to correct how long we think there has been life on earth if microbes aren't considered to be living things.

Igneococcus · 18/11/2021 21:26

You do wonder why it's called micro biology, don't you fox and why I spent so much time discussing early evolution if bacteria and archaea aren't considered "life".

foxgoosefinch · 18/11/2021 21:25

I’d love to know more about how you model viral capsids from atomic cross sections

SCR0071 · 18/11/2021 21:25

I didn't day that viruses were singled celled - I said they were not living

Blindleadingtheblind · 18/11/2021 21:24

@lottiegarbanzo

'Don't know much about history, don't know much biology...' Literally! Lol.
Grin brilliant
dyslek · 18/11/2021 21:23

@SCR0071

Would consider it a lecture- I understand what cells are and do as professionally I model virus capsids from atomic cross sections
Grin your shitposting on a Thursday nite (like me) but yours is funnier.
SCR0071 · 18/11/2021 21:22

To point out that the Eukaryote reproductive process achieve the same rest in human reproduction which was disputed

foxgoosefinch · 18/11/2021 21:21

@SCR0071

It isn't the male that solely determines the sex of a child- XX is a girl and XY for a boy - the chromosomes need to combine and that assignment is one last to be made.
🤣🤣🤣🤣

Ay me…

Igneococcus · 18/11/2021 21:21

Most don't consider single cells single cell organisms as being living things

Careful now, your ignorance is showing.

dyslek · 18/11/2021 21:20

@SCR0071

All I am saying is that until the X is combined with the X or Y there is no determination of sex and in human inheritance that chromosomal combination is made at the end of the selection of the 23 from each parent.
Sorry but this is totally wrong. I still think you are a bit confused.

Until the X is combined with the XorY there is nothing, as in conception has not happened.

Also there is no selection as the egg and sperm have their 50% DNA and it is all used to make the new individuals new set of DNA.

foxgoosefinch · 18/11/2021 21:19

@Igneococcus

Every living thing on the planet inherts its chromosomes from both parents

Poor Prokaryotes, overlooked again, despite that they vastly outnumber all those Eukaryotes with their fancy-schmancy sexual reproduction (and do all the important stuff), pffft.

Our friend has told us they aren’t living things though - all those bacteria, archaea, fungi….no hope for them!

Dead, dead, and never called me “mother”

Considering you seem to be conflating viruses with cellular organisms, I find this rather difficult to believe!

Or is it that you're a computational scientist rather than a biologist, and are somewhat stretching the limits of your professional knowledge?

foxgoosefinch · 18/11/2021 21:18

Most don't consider single cells single cell organisms as being living things

Err, what…?

AnnieLobeseder · 18/11/2021 21:16

@Clymene

Why are you giving cell division lessons *@SCR0071*? Confused
I'd rephrase as 'why are you copying and pasting off the internet with limited understanding of what you're pasting, *@SCR0071*?'

There are a few basic biological inaccuracies in what SCR0071 has said.

I'll start by clarifying that viruses are not single-celled organisms - they are entirely lacking a cell. And that single-celled organisms are most certainly considered to be living things by any biologist with even half a clue.

I'm also slightly puzzled as to why the 'lesson' in cell division was relevant.

foxgoosefinch · 18/11/2021 21:14

@SCR0071

sexual dimorphism, is a term for the differences in appearance between males and females of the samespecies it has nothing to do with inheritance- and you don't mix genes - they come as a sub set of chromosomes which do get mixed finally with regard to pathogens- how often do you find an individual with a one off natural immunity to a disease? Not very often that is genetic- it is your immune system that deals with pathogens.
Oh dear me - this is also known as gamete dimorphism.

Please stop trying to teach yourself biology from whatever resource you are currently using - maybe enrol in a class or do an OU course or a biology GCSE/A-level instead.

I was wondering the same thing. Given the mistakes it's more amusing than informative.

IncompleteSenten · 18/11/2021 21:04

Yes it is the male that always and solely determined the sex.

borntobequiet · 18/11/2021 21:03
