Nolan: 'Are you saying Emma that you believe men use period products?'
SDLP spokeswoman: 'No I'm not saying that at all. I'm saying they need to access them and they need to be aware of women and periods and period poverty'

FannyCann · 09/11/2021 10:20

Thanks OP. Can't wait to listen later.

Nolan: 'one of the major political parties seems reluctant to say women use period products'
SDLP spokeswoman: 'but I don't think it does just affect women. I think it affects families and relationships and couples. So I don't think there's anything wrong with including everyone in this'

FindTheTruth · 09/11/2021 10:13

SDLP spokeswoman saying men need to access free period products in public body buildings for their girlfriends so it's inclusive....tying herself up in her word salad knots.

NoThankYouSaurus · 09/11/2021 10:11

Emma is a bit out of her depth. She's getting angry at perfectly reasonable questions.

HipTightOnions · 09/11/2021 10:09

Loving the callers. “My mother is a woman, my sister is a woman and my daughters are girls.”

NoThankYouSaurus · 09/11/2021 10:08

Wound back to the beginning. SDLP said they don't want to "debate" about gender issues. This is a nonsensical statement, because the very fact of removing the words "women" and "girls" from a bill about periods is asserting a political and social point of view that it is not only women who have periods, which is simply not true and against the grain of common understanding. How can they claim that no debate is remotely valid.

Who is this Emma numpty? All those poor men who have to go out and buy period products for their wives, won't anyone think of them and their burden!

HipTightOnions · 09/11/2021 10:08

@Datun

SDLP spokeswoman: 'it does affect men. A family income in poverty may be affected by the purchase of period products'

I haven't listened to it yet, but I do hope they keep saying crap like that 🤣

Oh yes there is plenty more in that vein!

SDLP spokeswoman: 'periods affect everyone, so it does make sense'
Nolan: 'I'm never going to have a period. It doesn't affect men'

He's beyond peaked now.
Once the scales fall from your eyes there is no going back.

Great that this is getting more and more exposure.

"Will we never hear the SDLP use the word 'woman' again? Will it always be person?" (not exact wording)

Every caller to the show is horrified. Male and female callers.
