Assuming this is a way for predominantly children to circumvent parents and get their hands on a binder.

This is what generations of capitalist patriarchy have done. Breasts have become such a locus of male desire that many young women now want to suppress or eradicate them - the source of life and nurturing.

Whatwouldscullydo · 09/11/2021 07:05

I can't understand trans ideology at all. If men can be women when they have a penis why are girls encouraged to bind and not just be a bloke with a rack?

Funnily enough there seem to he 2 types of non binary too. One involves orange crop tops and a tutu and one involves binding.

I'll leave ve you to wonder what type applies to who 🤔

TheWeeDonkey · 09/11/2021 06:57

This makes me glad I don't have daughters. I know for many, especially of a vulnerable age this is a fashion choice, like dyeing your hair or Air Jordans, but that a shop (that should have an ounce of responsibility towards its customers) should promote it this way is chilling.

Makes you wonder what other harmful and potentially debilitating products they're selling?

Whatwouldscullydo · 09/11/2021 06:51

Even without the potential rib damage, bidets really ruin the aesthetics of the natural breast. So all the young teenagers who are caught up in this ideology - often as a result of poor body image and low self esteem - then end up with damaged and unappealing breasts, which must make body image issues so much worse whether they transition or detransition

Doesn't it also make treating breast cancer more difficult?

Because the tissue has been broken up/damaged and is no longer all in one place?

So long term this could kill them because a mastectomy ( for cancer purposes ) will be less effective

Beamur · 09/11/2021 06:42

Lush are abusing the trust of so many of their customers with this promotion. Truly dreadful. There's no safe way to bind.

Catawaul · 09/11/2021 06:18

This is awful. Lush being sort of cult-ish in a certain age group of girls promotes binding as to be expected, a rite of passage, like getting your first bra. The secrecy aspect is frightening. How dare they?

Forgotthebins · 09/11/2021 06:18

This is gross. A company that willingly promotes the tools for young people to permanently damage their bodies is the other side of a bright red line. I have never bought Starbucks since the Mermaids partnership, and I used to love Starbucks, but this showed me that it is not a responsible company. If this is more than one rogue employee, then the same will go for Lush.

Kotatsu · 09/11/2021 05:51

Oh god - I was desperate to reduce mine (and the shape, get them flatter) - I used to sleep on my front, bought the M&S reducing bras (kinda spread it round to your armpit), tried bandaging after watching Shakespear in Love etc... Like another OP, I just needed to get used to them, there was nothing wrong at all (and now I'm older I also appreciate how lovely I looked back then, when at the time I thought everything was wrong with me)

I would have permanently damaged myself. Girls are going to permanently damage themselves. It's truly awful.

I can't boycott Lush any more than I already do though - although at least ex is out of the picture and won't be lazily buying me bath bombs for Christmas this year (which the kids steal for their baths anyway)

Mummyoflittledragon · 09/11/2021 05:33

Christ a new low for lush. I have only been in there once when dd was younger as she wanted to spend her Christmas money. Never again. I I hope they are ripped to shreds but I suspect not. How can this and the ‘charity’ be legal ffs.

CheeseMmmm · 09/11/2021 01:54

Binding is generally related to girls who feel want to be non binary or boys.

The fact that why is no breasts the thing if non binary is never explained. It's male as default human.

The fact that loads of girls find breasts growing really difficult. And always have. Don't want them. For loads of reasons.

Is also never discussed.

Pascal80 · 09/11/2021 01:51

I didn't know girls bound their breasts. Why? Are they binding their breasts because they are pretending to be boys? and there is actual clothing for this purpose.. Why would Lush be condoning and encouraging it - I don't understand what tf going on. It's awful.

CheeseMmmm · 09/11/2021 01:21

Insurance for what?

I think the binders are being distributed by a separate org anyway.

Fluffymule · 09/11/2021 00:24

Leaving the safeguarding and moral issue aside for a moment, just what are Lush thinking?!? Their insurance company can't possibly be aware of this. A liability suit waiting to happen surely?

Facilitating products to minors, encouraging concealment from parents/guardians, that may cause physical harm to the kids? This has to be a rogue employee, not a corporate policy.

noraclavicle · 08/11/2021 23:34

No mention of a lower age limit on the Instagram post. That’s a big red flag waving right there.

Helleofabore · 08/11/2021 23:33

Isthatthebestyoucando

Yes. They seem to be doing just that.

foxgoosefinch · 08/11/2021 23:20

It looks like there is a charity they’ve teamed up with that is providing them to the girls if they pay £7. Cheap binders are also potentially damaging, so are they also just giving out not very safe cheap ones? Who knows 🤷‍♀️ But yes, I think this kind of thing is largely to give access to them to girls without their parents’ knowledge, basically.

Isthatthebestyoucando · 08/11/2021 23:16

Pardon my ignorance, have I got the right idea that this is specifically for girls to bypass their parents by Lush acting as a delivery address?

That's very fucking groomy if that's the idea.

user1745 · 08/11/2021 23:14

@jlpartnerrs

As a child with big boobs I' have been all over this like a rash at 13/14

Wouldn't you?

I would have been all over it too! I didn't/don't have big breasts but as a young teenager I was deeply embarrassed and ashamed over them. I used to wear baggy tops to hide my breasts as I felt everyone must be noticing them. A binder to flatten my growing breasts would have been ideal in my eyes! After a few months I got over the embarrassment of course, and without permanent bodily damage.
foxgoosefinch · 08/11/2021 23:10

I’m a trustee or board member at several different organisations, and as part of our routine governance we periodically scrutinise the institutional risk register. There are always sections for assessment of reputational risk, and the likelihood of negative press events and how you arrange your insitutional checks and balances to mitigate the risks of that. (And these are nonprofit organisations that are really unlikely to be in the firing line for reputational risk, have very boring core business and only have one or two professionals managing their SM feeds/press.)

But I cannot think that a big high street company with a press and marketing dept doesn’t know they shouldn’t be managing reputational risk, or running any of this kind of stuff past someone who’s job it is to make sure they don’t get negative press. Wtf are they doing? Why do so many companies seem to let whatever graduate trainee feels like it that day rock up organising their social media without thinking “ooo, is this “collab” a good look for us?”

Something’s gone very wrong if this went through internal marketing/PR etc. and nobody said “hang on a minute…what are these binders exactly…?” Or are they just all addled by too many articles like that Cosmopolitan one above?

MrsOvertonsWindow · 08/11/2021 22:59

Have Lush lost their minds? Since when can organisations openly undermine fundamental principles about safeguarding children and adolescents?
Do they have no boundaries? Are they so in the grip of these organisations that children's safety is of no importance?

CheeseMmmm · 08/11/2021 22:58

Thanks for insta link.

So no minimum age.
No I dunno. I mean it's a big deal. It needs to fit. There are health warnings that need to be given. There could be serious issues with the ... Whatever age girl who wants one. Just measure rock up 7 quid done.
That's awful.
