can’t link because I’m a bit shit. Lorraine is trending on Twitter. She’s already been called a hateful bigot just as bad for giving the transphobe a platform and some other nasty names. Poor Lorraine. She’s got it to come from the allies of those Trans people she’s so desperate to please and she tried so so hard.

Seriously? Confused

IDanielRadcliffe · 08/11/2021 09:52

Does Lorraine usually cover this stuff? I’ve only ever seen her show when it’s been interviewing celebs and fashion etc.

Everything is sunlight, though I imagine Lorraine’ll have a week of Munroe Bergdorf and the like on now to try and make amends.

dolorsit · 08/11/2021 09:50

I think Lorraine is in for a bit of a shock.

yestheyhavethesamedad · 08/11/2021 09:48

Lorraine obviously thinks people are stupid/naive is she really claiming the only messages were against kathleen and that no one agreed with her , so muvh for balanced journalism

Helleofabore · 08/11/2021 09:36

Yes, no mention of the name of the book at all. So that the trans allies won’t get upset that it was promoting the book.

And completely downplaying the violent aspect of the protests and the abusive nature of it all. Because…. It wouldn’t be acceptable to call out any TRA for crossing the line into abuse.

FreeBritnee · 08/11/2021 09:35

I didn’t see it but I think these fence-sitters are pretty canny. Holly Willoghby has come out and said she has had to massively water down her own personality to be successful in TV. She has to actively have no opinion on anything. Then when the tide changes, and it will, they can merely float in the other direction, career intact.

littlbrowndog · 08/11/2021 09:31

I never seen Lorraine for years.

There’s a reason for that and I remember why now

littlbrowndog · 08/11/2021 09:29

Yeah I think it was important that Kathleen got across that both women and men were afraid to speak about this

WinterTrees · 08/11/2021 09:29

She was doing her special scrunched up thinking face, as if trying really hard to get her ladybrain around the fact that Prof Stock's book is a bestseller and she has had lots of media coverage for being bullied out of her job. Not quite accusing Prof Stock is 'weaponising her trauma' or whatever the phrase is, but leaving it there for other folx to draw that conclusion.

Of course, the possibility that Prof Stock is getting media coverage because a huge proportion of the population are done with the bullying and silencing, and Material Girls is selling like hotcakes because people are so ready to read a clear, honest analysis of gender bullshit wasn't aired. Nope. It's all because Prof Stock is one of those notorious manipulative power lesbians, who have been controlling the media from behind the scenes for decades. Hmm

Knifeandfawkes · 08/11/2021 09:29

I suppose it's progress to have a full on TWAW show have someone like Kathleen Stock on, and for LK to say that there should be open debate, though what it's worth I'm really not sure.

Felt very tokenistic and vacuous in my view. I really can't stand the current trend to avoid ever getting to the nub of a debate in favour of just 'being kind'... it's really not kind in the long term is it, and it feels so fake.

LK was very dismissive of the hate campaign against KS which really goes against everything she was saying regarding open debate Hmm

Manderleyagain · 08/11/2021 09:25

I thought this went really well. It would have been difficult for KS to respond to the suicide stat in the format, and would have come across badly.

Lorraine is v TWAW and has every right to be, but she is obviously also an old liberal who thinks these things all need talking about, and her question about how we get to having this discussion is a good question.

Lorraine talked alot for an interviewer.

I expect most of the audience will think about the issue in more practical terms - sport, changing rooms- than whether a tw actually is a w or not. I think lots of ppl just learnt that something odd is going on, and talking about it loses ppl their jobs.

I wonder how much power over choice of guests Lorraine has? Would this have been her choice?

Should have got the title if her book in!

Well done Kathleen!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/11/2021 09:24

To be fair to Lorraine, and I've never been a fan, she must have been terrified of putting a foot wrong.

digitalvertigo · 08/11/2021 09:24

Positive Kathleen's on a show like Lorraine and it was as respectful as you could hope for imo. The stuff about her not really being cancelled was rubbish though...I'm sure Lorraine will understand it more when the inevitably annoying loud people pipe up about having Kathleen on at all.

KaleKebab · 08/11/2021 09:23

@WinterTrees

Lorraine taking full advantage of the opportunity to signal her virtue. Feigning surprise that people can't discuss this while also making sure everyone knows she is nice and prof stock is an evil bigot witch.
Yep. Spot on. Lorraine managed to spend the entire 5 minutes simultaneously spouting inane 'truisms' whilst signalling her relative purity. Totally skirted meaningful discussion or even recognition of the contentious issues. My ankle low expectations of this segment have been fully met.
OhHolyJesus · 08/11/2021 09:23

Lorraine said she thinks TWAW and TMAM but they can talk about it and agree to disagree, or that's what you should be able to, only Lorraine isn't about to lose her job for having Kathleen Stock on is she?

Dr Stock did really well. So is so reasonable and straightforward.

At least it means the subject is getting to audiences who might not have previously have heard about it.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/11/2021 09:22

Kathleen is a bit too polite. I'd love for her to interview Kellie-Jay, Sheila Jeffreys or Julia Long. Apoplexy.

littlbrowndog · 08/11/2021 09:22

Kathleen did look tired.

FindTheTruth · 08/11/2021 09:22

it is progress being on a TWAW hosted show

littlbrowndog · 08/11/2021 09:21

Lorraine seems to talk a lot. And she did say TWAW and transmen are men

And they are the most oppressed and suicidal

But Lorraine did say we have to talk

And Lorraine did talk

Appalonia · 08/11/2021 09:21

Kathleen was excellent as ever. So clear, calm and considered. Fair play to Lorraine for having her on and not being hostile or antagonistic towards her, despite her own views.

Who would have thought, a few years ago that this would be discussed on LORRAINE!

The days of #no debate are well and truly over Smile

FindTheTruth · 08/11/2021 09:21

Lorraine exclaiming "YOU haven't been cancelled!". She could do with a definition of what cancel culture actually is,

Andrew Doyle: How should we define cancel culture?

Helleofabore · 08/11/2021 09:21

I wonder what was said before the interview started? Doc Stock looked very uncomfortable the whole way through. And very tired.

And Lorraine was clearly uncomfortable, I don’t remember her talking quite that fast for entire segments.

But, a naice bit of virtue signaling by ITV.

Gumbomambo · 08/11/2021 09:19

Ugggh! Agree Winter Trees, she brought her windmill out to wave her virtue on didn’t she. “Don’t come for me, I’m on your side, they’ve made me have this bitch on”. That’s obviously not what she said but that’s what I saw.

Gumbomambo · 08/11/2021 09:17

She didn’t like it when Dr stock said that she had actual trans people write to her to tell her they agreed.
