Just saw the Indy headline crowing about Lorraine calling out Kathleen. Aye, right. Bloody Indy...

@Appalonia

Im really enjoyimg seeing GC Feminists on Twitter saying how Lorraine peaked their mums this morning! 😁
👏👏👏
PeriChristmas · 08/11/2021 21:41

@Datun

but I so wished when Lorraine said she believed twaw, that Kathleen could have said 'why do you?'

Exactly. Let's hear that floundering load of jibberjabber live on telly.

And let's get to the nub of it with the implications. So you believe rapists should be put in women's prisons?

Fortunately, we are getting closer and closer to that huge denouement.

Yup.

[quote PeriChristmas]It would be great if more people on twitter asked Lorraine what is is that she doesn’t agree with?

Judging by the ratio in her

I believe transwomen are women and transmen are men Tweet at 10:47am this morning, it appears your wish has been granted.

Twitter is of course, not real-life. I suspect LK would be surprised to find that her assertion that TWAW and TMAM is not shared by the majority of her audience. Indeed she is starting to look rather isolated, and few TRA's are coming to her aid.

Audience figures are what count though of course, and if LK's start to nose downwards because of her anti-woman stance, she will be dropped like a stone.

@GCmiddle

Is it me or was Kathleen speaking with a Scottish accent?!
Isn't that a sign of emotional intelligence? She's picked up Lorraine's Scottishness and it's brought out her own. She didn't sound Scottish at all on previous interviews nor whenever I've seen her speak.
LonginesPrime · 08/11/2021 19:15

Also, what is with all the 'of course you haven't been cancelled, here you are on the telly' crap? To a professor of philosophy who was hounded out of her job

I suspect Lorraine thinks being on telly is better than being an academic anyway - she seemed to be implying that having a book out and doing the interview circuit is obviously better than having the academic career Prof Stock worked for decades to build.

Bizarre way to look at the world, but people are in their own little bubbles.

Manderleyagain · 08/11/2021 19:06

I have so much admiration for Kathleen and all the other women (and some men) who are slowly dragging this into the mainstream. Inch by inch like a pp said. Puuuullllll!

I think this is huge. One of the main gc feminists on actual Lorraine Kelly! It was impossible to imagine only 6 months ago. And also huge is that Lorraine is being praised by trans advocates for this. Yes some are twisting it and saying she got the better of ks, (pink news are interpreting it like that) but it doesn't matter, they accept that it happened and don't think Kelly should be cast out for it. Kathleen Stock reached many new people today. Nodebate is taking a while to die but its definitely on the way out.

The interview with LK was fascinating. It reminded me of the religious programming on American sponsored channels, when an evolutionary scientist would be invited on to be challenged by the presenter who was a committed 'Intelligent Design' believer. Kelly insisted on stating 'TWAW', I guess to try to avoid the death/rape threats that would have inevitably followed, but also as a sort of religious incantation.

I wonder who came up with the idea to invite Doc Stock. The producer, or Kelly herself? I have speculated if it was intended to expose LK to her viewers in a way LK probably didn't enjoy - i.e someone is not being very friendly to LK in her own tam. Things are a bit different now and LK's audience is rather more skeptical of the whole 'TWAW' now than it might have been 12 months ago.

Kelly though is much respected as an ally to the TRA's. I suspect over the next few days they'll decide that she allowed Stock off, platformed her views (Material Girls hasn't even gone into paperback and its sold-out several times over) and will be identified as a 'bad egg'.

LK's Twitter isn't too respectful of LK. Indeed the fawning 'TWAW' doesn't appear to have been received too well. I suspect in the near future, advertisers will have to make the decision as to whether coughing-up for a slot during the LK Show is in their interests to be associated with her if she keeps on chanting 'TWAW'.

Also, what is with all the 'of course you haven't been cancelled, here you are on the telly' crap? To a professor of philosophy who was hounded out of her job because some students didn't like her views? Who had to walk past stickers on the wall with her name on them calling for her to be fired, at the workplace she has been at for years? Who saw young men with balaclavas on, saying they will do whatever it takes to ensure she loses her job?

Oh, but she is on the telly now, so everything is OK then.....Hmm

OneSugar1 · 08/11/2021 18:46

Kathleen Stock is amazingly calm, clear, reasonable and measured isn’t she. Extremist TRAs (aka Misogynists 2.0) have scored a massive own goal trying to silence her which has backfired to give her the freedom to speak. I’m so sorry for her personally, given what she’s been subjected to, but you couldn’t ask for a better ambassador.

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 08/11/2021 18:43

For all the twitter crowing about how fabulous Lorraine is, there must be a good deal of nail biting going on. Lorraine is a hugely successful media persona (as clarified to HMRC) but her brand is chirpy Scottishness and bland positivity. She speaks in meaningless soundbites and is not known for her intellectual rigour.

This is exactly what I thought.

Lorraine Kelly, she of the sympathetic head tilt, the dutiful girly giggle at her drag queen guests, and the falling over herself to ensure she gets pronouns correct, has had a massive transphobe on her show. And listened to what she had to say and was totally civil towards her.

I definitely think nails are being bitten right now......

LumosSolem · 08/11/2021 17:34

Watching on catch up..

I loved that when Lorraine suggested that she now has more of a voice, she agreed and said 'and I'm going to use it'.

Thank you Kathleen you are amazing 💐

@StringyPotatoes

Just watched this on catch up.

"We need open discussion, don't we?" Says Lorraine.

Lorraine then proceeds to shut down all discussion by interrupting, repeating that we need open discussion, then asking over and over again what Kathleen Stock thinks we should do to enable said discussion 🙄

Pretty sure she wasn't the problem here, Lorraine....

Yes, this. Would love it if she was challenged to explain what she means by TWAW.
borntobequiet · 08/11/2021 16:30

Really KS hardly needed to ask LK why she believed TWAW.
For those who realise they’re actually men, it’s nonsense and they’ll think she’s bonkers. For anyone confused who thinks they’re women who want to be men, it’s a nonsensical truism, and she’s bonkers. For anyone who doesn’t understand at all, it’s surely nonsensical and puzzling, and bonkers. So lots of people will be saying “what’s she on about? Is she bonkers?”. I hope.

Snoozer11 · 08/11/2021 16:29

Maybe if they turn on Lorraine she'll understand the sort of people she supports.

I wonder if the real Lorraine and the character Lorraine have different views on this?

KS was so incredibly calm and dignified and did well to get a word in edgeways against the incessant parroting and repetitive mantras being thrown out (with accompanying serious hard hitting screwed up gosh this is complex isn't it face).

@Ereshkigalangcleg

she is being framed on trans-twitter as a fierce, hard-hitting journalist

Professor Stock was not there to put across any of the many reasoned arguments about the danger trans ideology poses to women's rights, but to inch this issue a little further into the mainstream.

Sincere thanks to Lorraine for providing that opportunity

100%. This is the continuing dismantling of 'no debate'.

We all know what happens once people start asking questions, and openly discussing the issues.

We have to go through the debate, and although many of us have spent so long looking into the matter that we are impatient for others to get on with it, I think it's a bit of a dance, terms must be agreed upon, certain ground rules laid down, and even some very boringly obvious statements made (feminists don't 'hate' trans people, for example) before sensible, grown up discussions can resume.

Lol, they are welcome to Lorraine. She's as useful as the two Benjis, Benji PenisNews and Benji Buttersighs. More of them all please.
