I don't even know how to properly title this post.

Daye, the period product manufacturer, has gotten hold of my throwaway email address somehow, and sent a mailshot with a link to this blog post about big tech censoring women's health.

This is the same company which panders to gender woo with SM posts such as those in the attached images.

Pandering to those who are dysphoric doesn't help us drive change in female health. If anything it hampers it because it's becoming more of a minefield with every new pronoun and/or identity. We bleed because of our biology. If we don't bleed despite our biology that could be cause for concern and required medical intervention. Gender identity does not affect our body's ability to bleed.

I'm sure many of you can word it better. But it really riled me.

Sometimes I just really want there to be a like post button, @RVN123

RVN123 · 29/03/2022 09:43

TWO threads on this subject have been deleted by Mumsnet in the last 2 days.
We are not allowed to say that men do not have periods. This thread will likely go the same way.
Don't suggest that men having a period is some kind of "thing" that we are not allowed to discuss on Mumsnet, we all know what that thing IS but it is "that which shall not be named".

Mumsnet are COMPLICIT in allowing this bullshit to go on because they are silencing the voices of women who are talking about REAL BIOLOGICAL SCIENTIFIC UNDENIABLE FACTS.

Yeah Mumsnet, MEN DO NOT HAVE PERIODS and those that say they do have issues we are not permitted to speculate on.
Deleting threads about it doesn't actually make the problem go away you know.

@sacredfeminina

A friend of mine owns a menstrual cup company. She was absolutely hounded for using the word 'women'. She had to change every label on every product she had already made ( great for the environment!) it was very much a demand, and a threat.
It's sad that the only way to combat this is to join the hounding of companies from this side of the issue, because such hounding affects the outcomes.

It shouldn't, really, as it is the sales figures which matter and those who want every fertile woman to be called bleeders are a tiny minority. They won't buy enough to compensate the loss of business we could cause.

Sigh. I hate that nastiness is necessary now.

LittleWhingingWoman · 29/03/2022 03:20

You never EVER hear from these menstruation companies about disabled women and ease of using products, older women, mothers, women after miscarriage, women with illnesses.

And now it's not even about women.

Erase your target audience and you kill your regular paying audience. How many repeat purchases do they think they will get from people who are scared of their own vaginas or who don't even have a vagina?

Twats. Overpriced products anyway.

I don't think anyone is 'demanding' people change language - it seems mainly to come from the marketers. Also it looks to me from original post as though Daye is committing to keepping on using women, along with some other inclusive language, and I don't have a problem with that.

sacredfeminina · 26/03/2022 21:37

I dont know why a tiny, tiny minority of people struggling with mental health are demanding the entire nation change their language. They just need to go to therapy to learn to love their body. Not continue to hate their body whilst re-writing the dictionary.

My boyfriend leaves me and I feel VERY sad. Therefore I demand that everyone else refer to their boyfriends as 'blimpens' as not to remind me of my own internal struggle.... Uhh no. Imagine thinking the world revolved around my delusions!

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 26/03/2022 00:26

I've learned two things:

  1. my hair cut is a "gender fluid" one
  1. no one at Daye understands that it's perfectly simple to prevent menstruation for females regardless of now they identify.

Only, if they told females with (really rather nice) haircuts about contraception options which prevent menstruation - well, they'd sell fewer pads, wouldn't they?

WhereYouLeftIt · 26/03/2022 00:22

Why (on that second image) are they reassuring us that 'women' includes 'trans women'? They don't need your products, Daye! Or - do they think transwomen are females who identify as men?

BookkeeperBobby · 25/03/2022 23:54

Fuck me, I actually can't be arsed with all that and I pity the poor sap who feels they have to be.

The irony of a period product manufacturer standing "unequivocally" with trans and non binary people - but not apparently with women.

ferretface · 29/10/2021 14:12

Interesting about Daye, I use their CBD tampons and they actually do seem to work. I hadn't clocked that they had all these silly social media posts (I don't follow them on Instagram) - everything they send is very clearly female health, women etc. They include cards in each delivery featuring inspiring women, not noticed it to include trans women at all. TBH it seems like those social media postings are just so they can be seen to talk the talk without getting cancelled every time they use the word women (which they do...often)

acatcalledjohn · 29/10/2021 13:55

It's not like one day a Gender Fluid Individual has a period, next day They shoot off a huge load of wriggler-rich semen into the rafters.

Wouldn't the fact that this person is having periods "break" her? Because periods don't smash the binary. It's not like one day a Gender Fluid Individual has a period, next day They shoot off a huge load of wriggler-rich semen into the rafters.

MintMe · 29/10/2021 13:32

"So we decided to change woman to womxn but then some people told us we were wrong so now we use woman again but not all the time because we use people who do this or people who are experiencing that or when they're not doing it experiencing we just say people. But also women, not womxn, but actually never women when we come to think about it"

I'm exhausted.

RightsHoardingStegasaurus · 29/10/2021 13:21

The answer to dysphoria has got to be therapy. Not pretending facts are not true, and not changing the language used by and for the 99.9% of the population who aren't dysphoric. My sympathy is fast ebbing away.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 29/10/2021 13:11

However, MH support is woefully inadequate and I wonder whether all this affirming is to attempt to hide the fact that there isn't support available

Which makes it even more absurd when you realise the amount of taxpayers money and funding that's being handed over to those pushing this niche ideology.

The amount of money to promote the beliefs of such a tiny % of the population is completely disproportionate.

Imagine if that money was instead used to increase and improve teen mental health support.

acatcalledjohn · 29/10/2021 12:29

A trans identified male with menstrual cramps is a textbook example of Münchausen syndrome.

Cramps do not a menstruation make. Your body dumping the lining of a physically present cervix does. But that doesn't fit their imagined oppression narrative.

Mental health help sounds far more appropriate to me as well, Whatsnew.

I suspect this whole branch of medicine will be overehelmed eventually with scandal and will grind to a near total or total halt. While that might be negative for those who could have potentially benefitted, I for one will be thoroughly glad to see the back of these demands that we respect the fragility of people who supposedly have received treatment to alleviate their problems. If real life continues to be so distressing that the world has to change for you, the treatment is a resounding failure.

MrsBucketsPony · 29/10/2021 12:22

It's all utterly insane.
I read a blog post by a transwoman, in which they said periods are about so much more than just bleeding, and went on about the bleeding is such a tiny part of having a period, and if you have mood swings and cramps that's a period, and c* women should stop being so selfish.
Or some such nonsense

acatcalledjohn · 29/10/2021 12:14

@Whatsnewpussyhat

Surely the solution should be to provide mental health help for these females to be able to deal with getting triggered by being reminded of the inescapable truth that they are in fact female, rather then making the rest of us pretend that periods aren't a female only issue.

Exactly this. However, MH support is woefully inadequate and I wonder whether all this affirming is to attempt to hide the fact that there isn't support available.
