BBC spokesperson said: “The article looks at a complex subject from different perspectives and acknowledges it is difficult to assess the extent of the issue.

“It includes testimony from a range of different sources and provides appropriate context. It went through our rigorous editorial processes.

“It is important that journalism looks at issues - even where there are strongly held positions. The BBC is here to ensure debate and to make sure a wide a range of voices are heard.”

So that justifies ignoring lesbian women being raped by male people who identify as women?

"Lily Cade, a transphobic lesbian porn star platformed by the BBC in an infamous article last week, has called from trans women to be “lynched” and “executed”

334bu · 03/11/2021 14:04

The amount of deflection on this thread is staggering, all because they can't admit the possibility that transwomen , just like any other males , can be rapists. How many women need to be raped ? How many lesbians need to suffer what is tantamount to conversion therapy, in order to validate some males who identify as women?

Helleofabore · 03/11/2021 14:02

@Yawnyawn123

This is such a scary reply. She’s actually raped lesbians. Don’t claim to care about women when you’re defending an actual rapist.
I think it may help you to actually read the article.

And then please do come back and tell us why the article should be discredited for mentioning Lily Cade the way it has?

BloodinGutters · 03/11/2021 12:53

No one is defending her, we’re just pointing out she’s only in the article because of the origin of the term cotton ceiling.

No matter what any woman has done they always have the right to define their sexual boundaries and lesbians sexual orientation means that’s same sex attracted.

There are no women who do not have the right to define sexual boundaries. Even the Rose West’s of the world have that right. I wouldn’t have any sympathy for her if she was a victim, but if we draw a line about which women are deserving of this right and which aren’t, then that line will only be used against us, moved against us, and predatory men will push the line further and further back until those of us deserving of that right are 0.

Helleofabore · 03/11/2021 12:52

The article discussing Cade in relation to the term 'cotton ceiling' and how it came about. The author is up front about who coined it.

The term is first thought to have been used in 2012 by a trans porn actress going by the name of Drew DeVeaux. She no longer works in the industry and I have not been able to contact her

Again, what is the reason for discrediting these women's stories based on the article mentioning Lily Cade in conjunction with how the term cotton ceiling came about?

If you are attempting to discredit the author or the article on this basis, do you see how that works to silence any more women coming forward with their stories? Or is that the point of the exercise.

Not one person has supported any deed or any thing that Lily Cade has said or done on this thread to my knowledge. Except to have said that if she had indeed been one of the 'informants' then why should she not be listened to as a victim? Or is it only the pure people that should have there stories listened to?

That has been the discussion around Cade's involvement.

Sexually assaulted may be, not raped. In the UK rape requires a penis.
allmywhat · 03/11/2021 12:50

Come on, if a transwoman had written that sort of content, we would all have plenty to say about it. We wouldn't be talking about it being 'cropped down' and 'personas'.

Are you kidding? IF? Transwomen write much worse content than this every day of the week. Worse and more offensive content than this is published by mainstream publishers and “feminist” websites.

I’d equate this piece in its offensiveness to the article I read by a trans woman saying how deeply they identified with Buffalo Bill. It’s repulsive and disgusting but I am willing to accept that the author of that article has not literally killed and skinned any women and does not literally plan to, just as Cade does not literally want to lynch transwomen.

(All the random Twitter transwomen who talk about how they want to rape and kill TERFs, or who send death threats, I’m less likely to believe they don’t literally mean what they say. There’s no wider textual context that would indicate irony or metaphor. I think those are mostly people who literally do want to kill us but aren’t going to actually do it because they’d have to get out of their gaming chairs.)

Who has defended her saying that? I can't see it?

Research to what end…? She’s raped numerous other lesbians. Including in women’s toilets… maybe that’s some relevant research no?

SusannaRowan · 03/11/2021 10:16

Article in The Guardian about the BBC standing its ground. Mentions that more people wrote in support of the article, glad I emailed them positive feedback now.

SomepeopleareTERFSgetoverit · 03/11/2021 07:45

TRAs have been campaigning against Cade since at least 2015 because of her refusal to cast trans women in her lesbian porn. Calls for violence are never right but I can imagine she is very tired of the bullshit.

Researched what, to what end? All that stuff was posted after the article and the reaction to it. It's a counter-reaction.

OK, I thought that stuff had been written before the article and someone had dug it up. Still doesn't really make it any less disturbing.

Neatly cropped down to make it look literal. The surrounding sentences make clear she's talking about their female "personas", and the post as a whole is based on "Lily Cade" already being dead. None of those names are any more real people than "Lily Cade".

That is some disgusting stuff there from Lily Cade.

Still, way to give them ammunition. Hmm

Maybe the BBC report should have researched a bit further before featuring her in the article.

And she's part of the history of the "Cotton Ceiling". Not just some random contributor. You can't omit part of the story you're trying to tell because you don't like one of the characters.

By the same logic they should have avoided featuring the transwoman Drew DeVeaux - did you know DeVeaux actually coined the "Cotton Ceiling" term? Not the sort of person you want to feature in an article...

Thefartingsofaofdenmarkstreet · 03/11/2021 07:12

That is some disgusting stuff there from Lily Cade. I think the police may actually get involved in that? Maybe the BBC report should have researched a bit further before featuring her in the article.

The fundamental question still remains though:

Is it transphoic for a lesbian to reject all transwomen as potential sexual partners?

Yes or no?

That question still hangs above all of this. Above all the shit that has been flung around from everyone since that article was published. Above all the letters, the accusations, the deleted tweets, everything.

@BloodinGutters

I think I said this on another thread, or I’m so tired I’m hallucinating.

But Lilly Cade could be a cannibal child killer but that doesn’t change the definition of a lesbian and she’s entitled to say she’s same sex orientated and no way in hell to a tw who wants to fuck her.

When we talk about women in prisons, while we know most are in for non violent crimes, there are a small % who are in for the worst things imaginable. Who did things like my mother who handed me over to her many boyfriends to rape.

I can have zero sympathy for the small % of women who commit the most horrific crimes against children and still recognise they are women. And that they shouldn’t be housed with male bodied people.

There are not deserving and undeserving women. Lilly Cade deserved to say no to a male bodied fuck because she is a lesbian, no matter what else she’s done.

Thanks all for the information.

BloodinGutters · 03/11/2021 05:38

Lilly Cade was only in the article to explain where the term cotton ceiling came from, because her turning down a transwoman because of being male was why the tw coined the term cotton ceiling.

Lilly Cade isn’t one of the victims interviewed. The article isn’t about the allegations against her. She’s just mentioned to explain the origins of cotton ceiling.

I think LOJ was referring to this originally

@AnyOldPrion

Owen’s comparison only works if you believe that men who say they’re women are women, so that you can make the spurious claim that lesbian women are the oppressor in this situation. Even if you believe “trans” is an axis of oppression, it’s cancelled out by sex, which is why their mantra is so crucial to them.

Does anyone know what this is referring to, in one of the replies on the Twitter thread?

”I hope that they're embarrassed at the fact that one of their interviewees seems to have been credibly implicated in the kinds of allegations she was throwing around at transgender people.”

Lily Cade

www.newsweek.com/anti-transgender-activist-quoted-bbc-calls-trans-women-lynched-1645231

*An anti-transgender activist recently quoted in a controversial BBC article posted online advocating for violence against transgender women and called for them to be lynched.

Lily Cade, a lesbian porn star who apologized amid a series of sexual assault allegations in 2017, was featured in a controversial BBC article that claims trans women pressure lesbians into sex.

In a post on her website called "Where the are these children's mothers," Cade characterized trans women as "vile, weak, disgusting whiny, fake-victim" and supported acts of violence against them.

"Cancel this so hard that no man dare walk the path of the trans woman in public ever again! Enough is enough. Lynch Kaitlyn (Jenner)! Lynch the 'Sisters' Wachowski! Lynch Laurel Hubbard! Lynch Fallon Fox!" the post read.

Cade continued to argue that trans women are not really women and said if it were up to her, she'd execute "every last one of them personally."

"They can't take down Lily Cade. She's already dead. I'm the bullet, btch, if you let me be. Who else has the balls, the brains, the voice, and the pitiless eyes to fight these mothers? I'm a fcking soldier. You ready? I'm ready," Cade wrote.*

I don't know how OJ would define a gay man or a straight man any more. It's not by sex, I don't think, from what he's previously said. I think it's dependent on gender - but that's for others; it's still sex for him?

That's going on his previous tweets.

LobsterNapkin · 02/11/2021 23:58

OJ's example there to compare is very weird. Because I would say really, it's not quite the same as what this article is doing, which is asking whether biological sex is inherently related to the idea of what a lesbian is, and whether that is ok.

Isn't that the part he really objects to? So what is the point of asking whether it would be ok to report on gay men being rapists?
