I thought this was interesting.

So, what's the TRA argument against this going to be? Surely a backlash against this ruling from the Home Secretary by insisting these criminals, including rapists must by named as Women would simply shine huge amounts of sunlight on an unpalatable issue?

WOW

Well she talks sense. The more I listen to her, the more I like her

Somewhat disconcerting to find myself cheering about something Priti Patel has said.

TrainedByDinosaurs · 24/10/2021 00:13

@JudyGemstone

I’ve been doing some thinking and I think maybe I’m ok with transwomen in female spaces until it comes to any trans women who have offended, especially against women/children
Be sure to let the appropriate authorities know you’re happy to share with a transwoman when you’re next in prison but you don’t get to make that declaration for anyone else
catzwhiskas · 24/10/2021 00:11

The figures don’t reflect those prisoners who have a GRC. This in itself should be enough to repeal the GRA.

Helleofabore · 24/10/2021 00:09

I am waiting for the other show to drop while hoping it does not.

And hoping that she gets males out of the female prison estates.

Thank you, I didn't know about it. Signed.

SpindelWhorl · 24/10/2021 00:07

Exactly. Patel's agreeing with women, with us.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 24/10/2021 00:05

@PurplePosies

Things are getting serious if I'm agreeing with her.
Perhaps it's more a case that you coincide with each other on this one point?
ItsRainingProstateOwners · 24/10/2021 00:04

I think Tonia Antoniazzi (Labour MP) also raised this, as well as groups like Keep Prisons Single Sex.

SpindelWhorl · 24/10/2021 00:01

@dapsnotplimsolls

I'm not sure I can cope with agreeing with Patel and Putin in the same day ...
Look at it as them stating that humans are a biologically dimorphic species and the earth orbits the sun.

You're not exactly agreeing with them about Marx and Engels on the origins private property.

RestingStitchFace · 24/10/2021 00:01

God it's a depressing state of affairs when one finds oneself in agreement with Priti Patel.

Keir Starmer - I can't even begin to express how disappointed I am in your stance on these issues....

EdgeOfTheSky · 23/10/2021 23:58

Ms Patel needs to read what her Civil
Servants are saying to those of us who signed the petition demanding that sex-based records be kept….

GreyhoundG1rl Yeah you do. In the same way you dont pre-judge anyone else. Transwomen are no more a threat then cis women. Punish wrong doers, not innocent women.

This is so blatantly false it is almost risible. In 2020 in English prisons 74 male prisoners who identify as women were serving sentences for sex offences compared to 125 women . Given that women constitute 51% of the population compared to transwomen who ,perhaps at a stretch , constitute 0.5-1% , the discrepancy between the two groups is massive. It should also be pointed out that of the 125 women, some may be people who may be biologically male but have a GRC as they are automatically counted as being female.

Jesus wouldn’t have constructed a placard that said, “Suck my dick you transphobic cunts”.

But you realise all offenders were, at one point, not yet offenders. So they’ll have to access the space to offend, at which point it’s too late!

Anyway, fab to see a bit of common sense even if from an unexpected source!

Highwind · 23/10/2021 23:52

Like rats fleeing a sinking ship.

Would be a shame to not utilise the return of common-sense momentum.... Going to use this opportunity to press my MP again.

NotTerfNorCis · 23/10/2021 23:50

This is great news. Crimes committed by males should not be attributed to women.

CliffsofMohair · 23/10/2021 23:50

@SpindelWhorl

I can still despise Priti Patel.

She had to be brought metaphorically kicking and screaming to the table where women and girls were looking down from for crumbs.

This is welcome of course; but long overdue.

Wanted to block food coming into Ireland. Not a fan.
thinkingaboutLangCleg · 23/10/2021 23:50

This is why the conservatives will stay in power. They are the only party that have the balls to voice an unpopular opinion.

It's only unpopular among transactivists and the unthinking 'Be Kind' crowd.

In my experience, most people take a 'live and let live' attitude, when they think it's about nice harmless gay people who like dressing up. But as soon as they find out more, they tend to be outraged by males in women's sport and women's spaces. Not on political grounds, just common decency.

It's a dangerous opinion for ordinary people to voice, because they will be attacked. But senior members of the government don't have to be frightened of the Twitter mob.

The Tory party isn't generally feminist (with some wonderful exceptions). They are like most of the population: just ordinary people who don't believe a strange new dogma.

It's excellent that they're starting to speak up about women's and children's rights. I think it means they're starting to feel confident that most of the population agrees with them.

Good Lord I think I agree with something Priti Patel said Confused Not sure how I feel about this.
