Don't you just love it when a company that makes stuff you like comes out as being ethically sound?

What a wonderful excuse to add chocolate tea cakes and caramel wafer biscuits to my next grocery order.

@KimikosNightmare I have the Peytons and Byrnes cookbook but have never tried tried make the teacakes - I think that might be my mission for the weekend. The snowballs sound good too!

Journeyofthedragons · 23/10/2021 14:00

I can't belive the support on here, a feminism board of all places for a company who had an advert banned as recently as three years ago for being sexist and degrading to women.

picklemewalnuts · 23/10/2021 13:54

@Chersfrozenface

Public service announcement: Iceland website has Snowballs, milk chocolate wafers and caramel logs Asda website has milk and dark chocolate wafers and teacakes Co-op website has milk chocolate wafers and teacakes

I've fallen out with Tesco so won't be checking their site

That is excellent public service! I'm adding caramel logs to my Iceland basket now. I'd not heard of them but they sound to ace to resist!

Explain to me why you think the person doing the thanking tweet was in the wrong again?

It's odd because I'd have thought that most companies would wish their donation to a charity to be acknowledged in public.

That said, we have the unedifying prospect of Amnesty UK both defending and distancing themselves from the use of their placards to protest FiLiA…

TeamRex · 23/10/2021 13:49

Oh come on. Are you seriously saying whoever posted it didn't know what would happen?

There are two options -
a) they did know. They could have guessed that on knowing that a LGB charity was given some snacks by a company that anti-LGB activists would lose their sense of perspective and complain. Making this assumption they then have to decide if that's a good enough reason for them to hide the fact that they received snacks for their conference. Strangely enough, they didn't create a charity and hold a conference to hide in a closet.

b) they didn't know. Because despite all the nonsense, the campaign to have charity status removed, the "fuck terfs" signs, it simply was too bizarre to think anyone would complain to a snack company about a gift of snacks to a charity.

Explain to me why you think the person doing the thanking tweet was in the wrong again?

For the first time I went to buy Tunnocks Teacakes at the supermarket. I was vexed at first by what seemed to be a
Tunnock
Excluding
Retail
Fail
by Tesco but I was looking in the wrong section. I also bought Soreen in solidarity.

Gingernaut · 23/10/2021 13:35

Tunnocks have merch, but the site is so weirdly organised that you have to click every option to see all the products.

I love the beanie.

ArabellaScott · 23/10/2021 13:29

@drhf

Companies that give away freebies expect to be acknowledged.

LGBA never said Tunnock's shared their views; they just said that Tunnock's taste good. LGBA social media did exactly what any social media rep would do.

Yep. Charity is made a small donation, and thanks the donor.

Not really headline news.

KimikosNightmare · 23/10/2021 12:11

@TeamRex

I still think the original tweet was unfair. Whoever posted it must have known the inevitable pile-on would happen.

What a ridiculous comment. It was just a "thanks" tweet.

@BewaretheIckabog

I’m on a diet but the local food bank will be getting Tunnock’s tea cakes this weekend.
Ooo that's a good idea. I am not going to accidentally eat them either as I don't like them. I love their caramels though.

It wasn't an endorsement- it was a marketing exercise. There's nothing wrong with a marketing exercise. I would not have any issue with Mermaids, as another registered charity, asking for a box of tea cakes and being given them.

KingsleyShacklebolt · 23/10/2021 11:53

Oooh, spot the SNP-bot who believes that if you're not fully on board with independence, you're either anti-Scottish, a Tory, or selling your Scottish heritage down the river.

Jeezo.

ArabellaScott · 23/10/2021 11:51

@CaddieDawg

Tunnocks treat their staff like shite (covid hotspot because they forced them into work after positive tests etc), fund the Tories and happily sold their Scottish heritage down the river in a bid to support the Union and Brexit. I really don't think this was a coincidence.
Gosh. They should probably repent, those tunnockfuckers.
EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 23/10/2021 11:44

@Purpletomato

I hope they don't repent. Will buy some teacakes this weekend in support though I wish they'd make the dark choc ones more readily available in England. I can sometimes get them in Poundland, never in the supermarkets. The dark choc ones are amazing.
Amazon has them but readily accept that they're not a popular shopping choice.

I suspect the secret ingredient is superglue.

Whenever I've made marshmallows the kitchen is covered in a fine dust that is ready to turn into a giant glue glob at the slightest increase in humidity. The whole area needs to be covered in drop cloths in a way that would lead someone to think they were about to be Dexter'd.

Journeyofthedragons · 23/10/2021 11:42

This was only three years ago!

Oh my God, EsmaCannonball. Grin I was imagining a golden retriever or some other placid breed. I have a medium sized terrier with large teeth and it takes two of us to wash him, one to manage the head and one to wash because he is very private about his privates (although he doesn't actually have any balls anymore). Grin

EsmaCannonball · 23/10/2021 11:30

I'm sure my dog would love to be the inspiration for a storyline on All Creatures Great and Small.

In an addendum, removing a Tunnock's Teacake from the balls of a nippy breed of terrier is not fun. I suspect the secret ingredient is superglue.

Perhaps, to balance out sending a box of teacakes to the LGB Alliance, they could also send some to a certain Canadian transactivist. I can vouch for their waxing efficacy.

(No dogs were hurt during the production of this post. Warm, soapy water was used in removing the teacake from the scrotum.)

FindTheTruth · 23/10/2021 11:28

The pile on has been huge and Ann in Tunnocks reception has issued a 'we are investigating' statement? don't know if it's fake or not. but they could do with support ...

KimikosNightmare · 23/10/2021 11:18

@KittenKong

No - I’m pretty sure there are the coconut logs... must check their website tunnocks.co.U.K...
Caramel wafers are chocolate covered wafers with a caramel filling.

Caramel logs are the same wafers with a toasted coconut covering.

Peyton and Byrne's cake cook book has a recipe for "Tunnocks" tea cakes which is fabulous. The filling is a thick , uncooked meringue. I have adapted Peyton and Byrne's recipe to make homemade "Tunnocks" snowballs. They are fabulous too. I have made plain and white chocolate as well as milk chocolate versions.

KittenKong · 23/10/2021 11:13

God, it’s a bloody business for heavens sake.

KimikosNightmare · 23/10/2021 11:11

What a ridiculous comment- grow up.
