You could definitely recite that to BJ to the accompaniment of tambourines while you call upon him to repent.

@DisgustedofManchester

So good to see a misogynist, racist, homophobic, islamophobic serial adulterer who cheated on his wife while she was getting treatment for cancer being lauded on these pages for his support for ... well not sure what LGBA do for LGB people... which is why it fits so well... of course!
Very interesting, DisgustedofMachester, to see that you've noticed all these horrible things Boris Johnson has allegedly said and done.

And yet, for all the “tank-topped bum boys”, the “letterboxes”, the “watermelon smiles”, the ”feckless and hopeless” working classes, the “gay gangsters” (and worse) - not to mention the botched Brexit, the proroguing of Parliament, the decimation of the NHS …

He's not being constantly harassed and bullied and sent credible threats of murder, rape, and sexual violence* like Kathleen Stock or Rosie Duffield or Joanna Cherry or Rosa Friedman or JK Rowling, to the extent he can no longer do his job or attend speaking events or party conferences.

Why is that, I wonder? What could the difference possibly be? ConfusedShockHmm

*Please note, I am NOT suggesting he should be; please don’t!!!

Wildfart · 22/10/2021 22:58

Hilarious. This week has been funny.

And disgusted of Manchester's string of insults is precisely the problem. It's all that's left of the tattered umbrella now, longer and longer insults.

You're very cynical LonginesPrime

Boris is a very canny operator, I think.

LonginesPrime · 22/10/2021 22:34

Thinking about Nolan Investigates and how Ofcom was slated for not giving the LGBA a look-in and letting Stonewall run the show (quite literally, in terms of Ofcom's mandate), a cynic might wonder whether Boris's support of the LGBA is a simply a smart tactic to mitigate claims of Stonewall bias within government.

Engaging with them is a sensible way to dampen calls for an enquiry into lobbying within government, as I'm sure Stonewall would be the tip of the iceberg there.

It's worth engaging with the LGBA, as it's likely not in Stonewall's or the government's interests to be forced to be transparent about their relationship.

@DisgustedofManchester

Check your facts your post is not even accurate especially in respect of his wife’s cancer . And I am willing to bet you have.not read the full articles that he has written and jumped in the bandwagon of believing extracts taken out of context .

Unsure33 · 22/10/2021 21:34

I think the fact is that many political parties offer solutions to problems of which some may appeal to you and some may not.

I do not believe one party is totally amazing and one party is the pits.

Life is not black and white .

Therefore when you vote you surely look at what is being offered, decide what is important to you and vote accordingly. I think it’s quite old fashioned to stick to one party just because you always have . Party politics shift all the time .

I can’t see the point of all this slagging off of a complete party because unless you are very gullible someone’s opinion on mumsnet is not going to sway anyone’s vote.

The interesting discussion in this huge debate that affects all women is how the politicians are reacting to what is going on and the attempt to limit free speech . Knowledge is important.

Yes, the serious description of what gender critical means. People who believe you can't change biological sex. Like it's a fringe unheard of position.

Everyone scratching their head, thinking, I'm gender critical then.

Gncq · 22/10/2021 20:17

Haha that Daily Mail article is great, sums up the lunacy. Sunlight sunlight

Needmoresleep · 22/10/2021 18:43

I have no idea why my previous post was deleted and MN have not told me. All I was trying to do was to counter YoghurtMondays suggestion that Dominic Cummings should get credit, on the basis that a belief that you can’t change sex is pretty widespread. Ah well. Perhaps Cummings has joined our watchers?!

It does not matter what people think of Boris, and I personally am not a fan. He is Prime Minister and a PM with a large majority. Civil servants and other senior people within the public sector will/should take note. Especially the suggestion that there is senior level support.

The Mail reporting has evolved.

Yeah. He's a shit. He's also the Prime Minister. So that's quite important.

Of course you wouldn't appreciate it, Disgusted, even though I agree with your summary of Boris, but then you do not think same sex attraction should be same sex attracted.

LobsterNapkin · 22/10/2021 17:09

My guess is that they are more worried about the stranglehold a lobbying organisation has on decision making. The influence lobby groups, not just Stonewall, have on Government has long been predicted to be the next big scandal.

That's a really interesting point and I think you are likely right.

RedDogsBeg · 22/10/2021 15:13

@Mollyollydolly

What gets me is how Labour could get it so wrong. It was obvious two years ago where this would end .. Labour didn't just fall into a trap they jumped into it head first. They still don't seem to get it (apart from Rosie). I'm sure there's lots of whispering behind closed doors but that's no use. They are crap at politics. I think they just don't understand the public, the tories do and tap into it. I don't for a minute think Boris cares about women, but he understands how politics work. And I don't think it gets said enough, but all those letters to MPs, the crowdfunders, women plugging away, it matters and they notice.
Same thoughts here, Labour had an open goal to portray the Tories as the 'nasty anti-women' party because the horrors with this ideology, as in Karen White et al, have played out under a Conservative Government.

Labour could, and should, have hammered the points of the removal of safety, dignity and privacy for women, the dehumanisation and demonisation of women, the threat to women's employment if they speak out, the capture of Government organisations, the Police and the NHS and, most importantly, the exclusion of vulnerable, traumatised women and religious immigrant women from the female only spaces and services they should be able to access without fear. Instead Labour doubled down and as a result are a lost cause.

HPFA · 22/10/2021 14:59

@dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby

I am so pleased to hear this....I know LGB Alliance and Stonewall were both at the recent Tory party conference. I would expect Johnson to support free speech and in speaking out on this, it makes me feel better about the Tories continuing to stand firm against self-id and generally getting the worst stuff rolled back. I was a bit miffed when he said 'people with endometriosis' with regard to poor David Amess but given the tragedy not appropriate for me to put on a thread.
Probably BJ doesn't realise that it's women who have endo.

@Bellendejour

Look I never expected to be here either. None of us did. My parents work/worked for the nhs. I’ve been labour through everyone, milliband, corbyn everyone. Voting Tory is an anathema to me, and sorry to get excited and silly and joke about shagging frogs. BUT I want to live. I want my daughter to live. I want girls and women to live and be proud and free to be daughters and women and not be scared to ever speak up for ourselves or share how we feel. I want children and teens to get the best possible care, and not mutilate themselves and make themselves infertile and forever patients and still be fucking miserable. I want women to have their own spaces and be safe, or as safe as we can be. If I have to vote for someone I wouldn’t ever normally countenance well that isn’t even on me, that’s on labour, greens and Lib Dem’s for abandoning us and forcing us to choose between our personal politics and our actual existence. I know we are all on the same page with those things. Maybe this will wake the other parties up, and I hope so. But if it doesn’t I would rather vote Tory than against women.
Thank you for putting into words exactly how I feel.
MondayYogurt · 22/10/2021 13:54

Just wondering, wasn't this foreshadowed by Cummings' tweet?

dotoallasyouwouldbedoneby · 22/10/2021 13:41

'I think Labour will have to bend...but how?'

That is entirely a problem for the Labour Party. Even before this they were telling 'red Tories' to 'get lost' so some of us did.

'If you ignore my sex, don't expect my x'.
