I thought this may be of interest:

www.mpts-uk.org/hearings-and-decisions/medical-practitioners-tribunals/dr-adrian-harrop-nov-21

The tribunal will inquire into the allegation that from 10 May 2018 to 23 November 2019, Dr Harrop inappropriately used his Twitter account to post tweets that were offensive and/or insulting and/or inappropriate in nature and some of which were intended to intimidate.

The GMC are full Kool-Aid. I’m guessing they’re only acting because The Harrop brings the TRA cause into disrepute.

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/11/2021 15:17

@Hoardasurass

Omg he even tagged the gmc in his threatening tweets
I think it was others responding to his tweets who tagged the GMC
RedDogsBeg · 15/11/2021 15:15

Of course Twitter never removed any of his tweets such is the rank misogyny of Twitter.

I recall Harrop backed down once and apologised when a man called him out on what he was doing and, yes, he apologised to the man not the woman he was bullying.

Signalbox · 15/11/2021 15:13

@RedDogsBeg

In 2018, Dr Harrop was on his Post Grad (Health Education England) the GMC received a number of complaints. The GMC asked his professor to discuss with him and remind him of his duties.

Harrop, as this point said the complainant was “transphobic” and he was “using his public platform for good.” Dr Harrop was reminded of guidance and warned further complaints would leave to a referral to GMC.

At a further meeting, Harrop said that he was “defending an important position.” Harrop had two written warnings. Further complaints received led to a referral in 2019 to GMC. Referrals were also made by a “number of other individuals.”

Oof, didn't learn then, arrogance personified.

Yes this isn't going to help his case is it?

Two written warnings! Clearly no insight.

This is not looking good for Harrop.

One of the people he bullied was an HCP. I hope the GMC are going to be held accountable too.
ShinyHappyPoster · 15/11/2021 15:10

I thought it was unlikely he'd get struck off but I didn't realise just how arrogant he had been when he'd been disciplined previously.
Of course, he'll position himself as a martyr for the cause if he is struck off but the fact remains, female patients will be a bit safer and maybe women on Twitter too.
It is ridiculous that the GMC seems to be taking the threats more seriously than the police. As PPs have said hopefully this causes the police to reconsider how they handled these issues.

NeedsCharging · 15/11/2021 15:09

Harrop saw it as his job to try and silence those on the opposing side

He has/had a job as a GP.

Datun · 15/11/2021 15:07

GMC say that ‘doxxing A’ was motivated by his “differing views on the transgender debate.” GMC’s view is that “Harrop saw it as his job to try and silence those on the opposing side.”

Not his differing views, his misogyny. How many men did he go after? As opposed to women?

Datun · 15/11/2021 15:05

'I want you to apologise, delete your tweets and get off Twitter forever'. Or else.

The fact that he thought he could say this with impunity is breathtaking. He is unhinged.

Datun · 15/11/2021 15:01

Intimidating women, doxxing women, telling them that unless they removed all their posts and got off Twitter, you would further intimidate them, is not 'using your platform for good'.

BoreOfWhabylon · 15/11/2021 15:01

Oh, this is glorious! They are readingntweet examples out

Whether the eventual sanctions are great or small, this stuff is out there forever.

I foresee a great career as a smouldering martyr.

RedDogsBeg · 15/11/2021 14:54

@Artichokeleaves

Yes they were inappropriate, but no they weren't offensive or with intent to intimidate or harass?

Mmn.

How does it go? 'If I did do it, it wasn't that bad'

(And if it was that bad then it wasn't my fault
and if it was my fault then I didn't mean it
and if I did mean it,
you/they deserved it.)

Yep.
BoreOfWhabylon · 15/11/2021 14:53

He just would not be told. His overweaning arrogance has been his undoing.

Harrop MPTS Hearing
Artichokeleaves · 15/11/2021 14:53

So he's shown and told the GMC that however they try to explain to him or warn him, he feels he is acting righteously and will do it anyway.

He's painted himself somewhat into a corner there.

Helleofabore · 15/11/2021 14:52

Will this mean then that we should be able to get a definitive answer to what 'transphobic' means?

I think that popcorn might be in order for me today after all!

Datun · 15/11/2021 14:49

According to the tweets, when he was pulled up on it originally his defence was the 'claimant was transphobic'. And he was 'defending an important position'.

She deserved it. That's the defence.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 15/11/2021 14:48

suppose he could do a Webberley and say he was acting for the greater good.

Called it^ (or at least he did previously)

"Harrop, as this point said the complainant was “transphobic” and he was “using his public platform for good.” Dr Harrop was reminded of guidance and warned further complaints would leave to a referral to GMC."

'At a further meeting, Harrop said that he was “defending an important position.” Harrop had two written warnings. Further complaints received led to a referral in 2019 to GMC. Referrals were also made by a “number of other individuals.”

Datun · 15/11/2021 14:42

They weren't just offensive, they were petrifying. I felt worried on behalf of the women he was sending them to, ffs.

And it spilled over onto mumsnet, if I recall.

MissLucyEyelesbarrow · 15/11/2021 14:37

The standards for dismissal from an individual employer are different from being prevented from practising your profession (by erasure from the register) at all, though.

Don’t get me wrong - I think he’s an aggressive misogynist who deserves the book thrown at him, assuming that the allegations are substantiated. I’m just doubtful that it will happen. The Law’s tendency to minimise and forgive misogyny doesn’t inspire me with optimism.

RedDogsBeg · 15/11/2021 14:36

Okay he's admitted some tweets were inappropriate (but denies they were offensive):

Paragraph (3) A to D admitted.
Paragraph (5) A to D admitted
Paragraph (6) admitted
Paragraph (7) denied
Paragraph (8) A - admitted B - denied
Paragraph (13) A - admitted B - denied
Paragraph (14) A - D admitted F - denied
Paragraph (15) A - admitted B & C denied

3, 4, 5 & 6 are admitted.

Harrop says the Hearing will have to decide if the tweets were offensive, he doesn't think so, but admits they were inappropriate.
