Just seen on Twitter that the university of Sussex got 10 points on university challenge last night 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Jaysmith71 · 13/10/2021 13:59

Seems like a case of, "You say I stink, I say you stink, so nerrr!"

The declaration speaks of the elimination of 'woman' as a category, so the response is "you want to eliminate transwomen as a category," which directly contradicts the premise that TWAW, and establishing that Transwomen are in themselves a category is precisely what Stock is saying.

University? Would struggle to build an Airfix Millennium Falcon.

yourhairiswinterfire · 13/10/2021 13:57

Is ''I can't read properly'' a defence to slander?

littlbrowndog · 13/10/2021 13:56

Amelia seemed erm to struggle with words

Piapiano · 13/10/2021 13:56

The BBC is clearly not impartial.

PleasantBirthday · 13/10/2021 13:53

The thing is, if you just switched on the wireless of an afternoon and heard an unchallenged accusation that Prof Stock was calling for the elimination of a group of people, you would think that that sounded like a pretty awful thing to do and you probably wouldn't be terribly surprised at people being outraged.

The fact that this spurious and ludicrous accusation goes unchallenged is the problem.

Piapiano · 13/10/2021 13:47

You can't argue with stupid. Logical arguments won't work here when gender ideology is based on tautology and cognitive dissonance.

BraveBananaBadge · 13/10/2021 13:41

For reference (in answer to own question), it was the Women's Declaration of Sex Based Rights and this is the clause Amelia said meant Stock was endorsing the "elimination" of trans people. (Amelia keeps using that word. I do not think it means what Amelia thinks it means.)

^c) States should “condemn discrimination against women in all its forms, agree to pursue by all appropriate means and without delay a policy of eliminating discrimination against women’’. (CEDAW, Article 2).
This should include the elimination of that act and practice of discrimination against women which comprises the inclusion of men who claim to have a female ‘gender identity’ in the category of women. Such inclusion erodes women’s rights to safety, dignity and equality.^

ComprehensiveTea · 13/10/2021 13:41

When one group insists on changing the meaning of words such as "woman" and "man" where can the discussion possibly go?

Exactly. That's one of the most indidious (and chilling) aspect of this ideology (and I use "ideology" in the neutral sense of "a system of ideas").

Jaysmith71 · 13/10/2021 13:31

David Runcimann of Cambs says he would love to talk about this issue on his podcast but he's scared as shit we do not have a common language for debate.

(How about English?)

Datun · 13/10/2021 13:26

People will be listening to that and thinking it sounds unhinged. Especially now the newspapers are reporting exactly what's been happening to professor stock.

NewYearNewTwatName · 13/10/2021 13:25

Putting words into a woman's mouth and then attacking her for what they're pretending she's said

exactly. slander

BreadInCaptivity · 13/10/2021 13:22

The politicians - what a cop out.

We can't discuss this because we don't have a common language.

That the fucking point.

When one group insists on changing the meaning of words such as "woman" and "man" where can the discussion possibly go?

We just circle back to TWAW/TMAM precisely because there's been a deliberate effort to dismantle the very terms of reference by which a debate can be conducted - all on the basis of you will not offend me by using definitions of words I don't like/find offensive.

And Amelia - FFS. Wearing masks, posters with highly incendiary and threatening messages and targeted SM attacks against a specific individual goes well beyond a legal right to protest.

It's harassment, bullying and intimidation.

Wanting an intellectual "safe space" for Trans people cannot be legitimately bought at the expense of creating a physical safe space for someone with differing views on gender ideology.

Amelia argument came down to you can't discuss peoples identity, it's not like Brexit.

Well conversely I say I can discuss my identity as a woman and if you choose to co-opt that identity you don't get to stop me speaking out having made a conscious decision to hold this debate on my turf (pun intended).

Franca123 · 13/10/2021 13:22

I don't think I'll risk guessing Amelia's pronouns

BraveBananaBadge · 13/10/2021 13:20

What was the declaration Amelia was alluding to, and what did the clause really say?

Jaysmith71 · 13/10/2021 13:20

@WineAway

I’m not in the UK, can you make a complaint to BBC?
www.bbc.co.uk/contact/complaints/make-a-complaint/#/Complaint

But it's contracted out to Capita so don't expect much.

yourhairiswinterfire · 13/10/2021 13:19

So because they can't find anything Kathleen has actually said or done wrong, they're just completely making shit up...

Putting words into a woman's mouth and then attacking her for what they're pretending she's said. Absolute fucking bullies. Pathetic.

WineAway · 13/10/2021 13:18

I’m not in the UK, can you make a complaint to BBC?

Sexnotgender · 13/10/2021 13:15

@Jaysmith71

BBC2 Now

Student Officer Amelia says Stock wishes to "eliminate" trans-people.

Surely you can’t just go making shit up like that?
BraveBananaBadge · 13/10/2021 13:14

@NewYearNewTwatName

Student Officer Amelia says Stock wishes to "eliminate" trans-people

slander? do we still have laws about slander?

Amelia mentioned this in a relation to a clause of a feminist declaration Kathleen Stock was a signatory of? I can't see that being the least bit true.

Amelia also made sure she shoehorned in mention of the LGBA as an "anti trans hate group".

One of the panel (Timandra Harkness) stood up for Stock and said she had been told by police not to turn up at any event she was scheduled to appear at, which is absolutely chilling. A Cambridge academic on the panel pretty much refused to touch the issue with a barge pole.

Franca123 · 13/10/2021 13:13

Total waste of time. Chapman is a complete waste of oxygen.

oldwomanwhoruns · 13/10/2021 13:13

So the BBC wanted to talk about women's rights, and talked to... A man.

They did this on woman's hour when they talked about woman's sports. They talked to... A man.

F***g BBC

Campervan69 · 13/10/2021 13:10

That was crap

NewYearNewTwatName · 13/10/2021 13:06

Jaysmith71 · 13/10/2021 13:01

All done.
