My Pregnant Husband

Has anyone watched this? It's on Discovery +

Why would anyone who was 'assigned a female at birth' and decided that was wrong for them, live as a man, get all the hormone and surgery treatment then decide to get pregnant?

Prepared to be flamed but isn't this a case of having your cake and eating it??

*transmen

Warmduscher · 11/10/2021 11:07

@AndTime

My partner is a trans man, there is absolutely no way on earth that he would carry a baby. We have spoken about this a lot and he says very simply that Men don't get pregnant.

Obviously he doesn't speak for all trans men but he is horrified at the thought.

At least he’s not saying that trans men can’t get pregnant - pre-op, of course they can and do.
YetAnotherSpartacus · 11/10/2021 11:00

You only have to look at the number of male cheerleaders in the anti-abortion movement to understand the degree to which some men want to take over issues that only pertain to women.

Yes, but they speak as men.

My concern is that they will start speaking as (and for) us as women.

PesosBandage · 11/10/2021 11:00

I was reading the thread about what it means to "live as a woman" the other day. Presumably the act of being pregnant negates any other thing you're doing to "live as a man" (I'm guessing it means wearing jeans with deep pockets and cutting your hair short??), as there is no man that ever lived who has been pregnant. So you can't possibly be living as a man. And as your biology is clearly female, and the thing you are doing is solely female, how can it possibly be described as a man having a baby?

It's not like being a trans man and deciding to have long hair, which some biological men do. It's entirely female.

Individual trans men, then I guess it's just a shrug (but don't understand). But when this is extended to 'men have babies too' then that's bollocks because that opens the door to all men or any man having a stakeholder position in a range of topics to do with issues that fundamentally affect women and women only.
Sadly this already happens.

This. Excellent point.
Beowulfa · 11/10/2021 10:50

I was thinking about this the other day in the context of the offspring of a transman being asked about their medical history. With some of the hereditary cancers, it's pertinent for a woman to know if there is breast/ovarian cancer in their maternal lineage, and the same for men whose fathers have had prostate cancer (my father's was caught in time because he was invited for early screening due to this family history).

Is the correct medical data still going to be recorded if people think their mum is actually their dad?

How can people think there can be no consequences for the muddling of basic words?

@Tedimhoardingrightsosaur

I would like to know whether there is any effect on the foetus of cross sex hormones. Let alone the poor child having to go through life explaining that somehow their "father" is the one that gave birth to them. These narcs never think about the child at all.
If there were a proper investigative documentary to be had from this situation, then it should be this: what impact is their on a child when his/her mother has taken crossed sex hormones and forces other's around them to validate their fantasy version of themselves?

^ This.

While women are berated for having a glass of wine during pregnancy, transmen are celebrated for being “dads who give birth”. The whole renaming of the pregnant woman as a man, with no thought for how this might impact on the child and their understanding of the world is so totally narcissistic it makes me want to scream.

@Beamur

I haven't watched the programme. But I can't really see why this is such a contraversial topic. Both sexes often want children. Even if you have dysphoria, that presumably doesn't override the desire for children? It might make the reality of childbearing a bit harder for transmen. But I wouldn't want to deny them the opportunity to have a baby or criticise that choice. They still have female bodies.
It is not their choice to have children that I criticise - it is their denial of reality, forcing others to lie, the manipulation of language, the suggestion that being female is to do with oppressive a exist stereotypes. The denial of sex. This person is female. A woman.
Franca123 · 11/10/2021 10:05

It's these peoples fault that I have to listen to the BBC talking about pregnant people.

Beamur · 11/10/2021 10:00

Fair point. I guess the other issue, which affects women more widely is the language mangle that accompanies and validates this. Men don't have babies.

Transmen can do what they like, as far as I am concerned, as long as there is no harm to anyone else. However, it is this lobby that has ripped to shreds women's right to their own terminology for their own bodies. It is this lobby that has brought about the dehumanising terminology such as chest feeding, birthing bodies, cervix havers. And absolutely gas lighting the medical establishment as well as the wider world into going along with their belief that they are a man and that men can give birth. They do not decide to have babies via acceptance of their fundamental female function. They carry on kidding themselves and forcing everyone else into compelled speech and behaviour.

Franca123 · 11/10/2021 09:51

I agree that they can do exactly what they want. Have a baby for sure. But for me it certainly undermines the idea that they feel that they are men. It just makes a nonsense of the whole thing. We all have to pretend we think they're literally men but they can't even keep up the pretence themselves. For the love of God!
