I think the tide may be turning

I was surprised by this video, not just by the hysteria on display, but heartened by the comments. People are starting to question, to push back. In esence, they are not playing the game anymore.

A channel founded by tucker fake news Carlson? Pass.

Nothing more fake news than " human beings can change sex"

Blessex · 10/10/2021 12:09

I have just got engaged. I would see myself as an intelligent dinosaur. I am now trying to engage the other intelligent dinosaurs around me who are not even aware of what is happening. If we all do the same we may have some hope.

"An indication of the tide turning according to that point of view would be a change in tone coming from the top of the respectable mainstream media"

I will ignore the majority of the verbal diarrhea and concentrate on that.
Who are the respectable mainstream media?

It doesn't really matter if the channel that posted this is 'right-wing Republican'. I'm sick of hearing that thrown at women tbh.

The real question about that video is: do you think that someone should assume that an obvious male is actually a woman because he wears a dress and lipstick?

The current Labour party is quite good at stopping people talking about certain subjects, quite good at getting people to chant mantras, quite good at getting people to use compelled speech. They are also quite good at losing elections, quite good about not being able to read the room and quite good at alienating voters.
The only reason Keir Starmer and the other echo chamber inhabiting Labour MP's are mocked in the Times, Telegraph, Mail, Express and Mirror and not mocked in the Guardian and Independent, is because the Guardian and Independent no longer allow comments on subjects such as these.

@Bcpg29 That is a daily caller video which is an organisation sympathetic with the right wing of the American Republican Party. What you are reading in the comments is mostly what the right wing/populist wing of the American Republican Party think. That’s not representative of what most people think.

Maybe you should RTFT and see that argument was made at the start. Then to some degree debunked because the commentators on Variety's Twitter are beyond overwhelmingly pushing back on this nonsense. You can also look at the Twitter feed of NBC Out, and the result is the same. Eden Torres and Jaclyn Moore are both experiencing massive pushback on their own Twitter feeds with very little defence from their usual handmaidens. (The pushback on their own Twitter makes me a little uncomfortable, tbh.)

Chappelle is seeing mainly support. Kathleen Stock is getting more support than she would have even 6 months ago. WPATH doctors are speaking out against puberty blockers (obvious attempt at arse covering, but it's notable that they feel the need to arse cover). A change is very clearly happening. It's not like it'll be downhill all the way from here. But honestly, most people feel like the majority of posters here. They are just either too afraid to speak up or unaware of just how bad things are. But it's a critical mass in waiting.

Thethegg · 09/10/2021 15:48

It’s true though. Posters here might not like the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth, but nevertheless it’s true and the truth will always be the truth. YouTube sorts people into little online echo chambers by showing them the content it thinks they will like. The comments under the videos are therefore representative of the people that like those media channels and not representative of the general population as a whole. And that’s the truth.

As for the daily caller, from Wikipedia “The Daily Caller is a right-wing[5] news and opinion website based in Washington, D.C. It was founded by now-Fox News host Tucker Carlson and political pundit Neil Patel in 2010. Launched as a "conservative answer to The Huffington Post". Guess what, that’s also just the truth. :)

Wanna hear something else that’s true? The tide isn’t turning or at least there are no signs of it that.

You see, the right might be good at winning elections but that’s only because they adapt to changes in the culture. The culture has been moving in a liberal/left/feminist direction for decades and it’s not stopping. That’s why despite the Tories being in power since 2010 the culture is more left wing than it was when the Tories were elected and America moved culturally to the left under Donald trump. Leftists call this ‘progress’ and this liberal feminist progressive progress doesn’t just stop at the point mumsnet posters want it to stop (around 2010ish) it keeps going towards its logical conclusions. We are living in the culture the liberal left built. That’s the truth, deal with it. If people don’t like the left wing liberal culture now that they have it they shouldn’t have spent decades voting for it and pushing for it.

Think about the U.K. Labour Party conference when Keir starmer said it’s wasn’t right to say certain things and that we shouldn’t say them. Sir Keir being mocked for this in the comments section of the daily mail doesn’t mean the tide is turning. Keir saying that as leader of the Labour Party means all Labour front benchers and most Labour MPs won’t say those things either. But it doesn’t stop there. If senior Labour MPs can’t say those things neither can the people at the top of trade unions or most Labour supporting publications. If something is unsayable in respectable publications then most vice chancellors of most major universities won’t say it and in time neither will most of the staff and students. There is a name for this process. It’s called political correctness. Something introduced by the left and once opposed by the right and a debate the left won. Welcome to your liberal left feminist politically correct world. :)

I have been following these gender ideology issues for about 3 years now having been fairly oblivious before that. I do feel like the tide is turning, slowly, slowly. When David Bells interview was published in the guardian about the Tavistock, it seemed like one of the first thing they'd published that wasn't towing the narrative line, all the orgs disconnecting from Stonewall and just recently, BPAS holding firm on the word "woman", and Stocks university backing her (when other unis have previously not supported academics saying exactly the same things). These are just a few examples and I know there have been a multitude of negative ones too, but it does feel like we are moving forward.

andyoldlabour · 09/10/2021 15:13

Bcpg29

Ah yes, that old chestnut. We must all be right wing fascists, more extreme than even Mussolini and Hitler, when all we are, is people who live in the real World.
The vast majority of people in the World, do not consider themselves to have a "gender", they may even be unaware of the word "gender", although to be honest it seems to be invading every part of our everyday life. The vast majority of people consider themselves to be male or female.
Unfortunately, the actions of the people in this video, who are berating the employees, the manager etc. are not helping the transgender movement. Their actions were all totally disproportionate towards any imagined slight which they felt they had suffered, because in every instant the individuals targeted by the hysterical outbursts had done nothing wrong.

Oh right, so most people are wildly sexist and believe that what actually makes a woman is long hair, lipstick and a dress and so we should assume that a male dressed in that way is 'very obviously' a woman?

Well that's very depressing if that's the case....

Bcpg29 · 09/10/2021 14:42
The ‘tide’ isn’t ‘turning’ and those comments aren’t representative of the general population.

Think for a minute about how YouTube actually works. People subscribe to the channels they like and YouTube shows them content from the channels they subscribe to plus other content from similar channels. By showing people content that the algorithm thinks they will like YouTube maximises the amount of time people spend on YouTube.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 09/10/2021 14:11

Why have they posted a photo of Jaclyn with every tweet? That's odd.

People were speculating the Variety person was secretly GC.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 09/10/2021 13:15

@Motorina

First one makes a comment about needing to pass as a cis-woman in order to be safe. Which in itself shows a staggering lack of insight into how it actually is to live as a woman.
Doesn't it just.

No insight at all. It truly is the immersive fiction that Kathleen Stocks describes it to be.

HardStaringBearFromDarkestPeru · 09/10/2021 13:07

Did anyone see the mention of a 'testerical mantrum' on the Eden Torres Twitter?

I think it's up there with 'the dressing gown of doom'!

ScreamingMeMe · 09/10/2021 12:41
Just look at the comments on Variety's Twitter. I don't think Variety's Twitter is a rightwing haven is it? People are feeling increasingly safe to voice their actual feelings on this nonsense. Or have been completely peaked by this nonsense.

ScreamingMeMe · 09/10/2021 12:37

Another white privileged TRA haranguing a minimum wage worker, this time a person of colour too. They are such fucking bullies.

Abhannmor · 09/10/2021 12:22

I think the scale of the bullying has reached the other 85% who are not on Twitter and this has fed back into the Twittersphere , YouTube, etc. The failed cancellation of Kathleen Stock is very interesting. Would she have been suspended two years ago , pending some inquiry/ show trial? Still some way to go but I am much more hopeful than 12 months back.

Mybalconyiscracking · 09/10/2021 09:09

It must be exhausting being a gender as a profession!
I must say, as a 6ft 1in woman ( born and bred) I get misgendered fairly regularly if service staff aren’t really looking at me.
I might say “ actually it’s madam” but not if I am going to embarrass or intimidate someone. Life is too bloody short!

FrancescaContini · 09/10/2021 08:57

A great deal of aggression on display here. Those poor shop / garage staff. Unbelievable.

oldwomanwhoruns · 09/10/2021 08:52

When working in retail, we were taught to have a good look at the card. A woman presenting a card with a male name - we'd not have accepted it.
But a male with a male card - ok.
It's the most BASIC of security checks.

Sonex · 09/10/2021 08:43

"Take it outside" - yeah, cos thats how women generally handle conflict ....

I actually feel sorry for people like this now, they're just so deluded. No appreciation that they're behaving exactly like men!

AnyOldPrion · 09/10/2021 08:37

@ArtemesiaK

Showed these to my DH, thinking that he'd be peaked, but he wasn't that interested and just said stuff like "Why don't they ban them?" "Why don't they throw them out" "I don't understand why they just put up with it". Do all male partners miss the point or is it just mine? I'm glad I can come here where people understand what we're up against.... :(
To be fair, your DH presumably rightly regards these bullies as abusive men who should not be given the time of day. He isn’t seeing it from the female point of view, where of course we feel more threatened, but if all men felt like your husband, and all outlets stopped pandering to these men, then we would be in nowhere near as much of a mess as we currently are.

Anyone else remember the video by the Geordie lad who posted images of himself fleeing from his screen when he discovered the online date he’d lined up was male? He simply laughed and thought it was hilarious when the activists tried to pile onto him. It was a bit of an eye opener for me, because I find the whole debate so oppressive that it was interesting to see a much lighter view, based on how ridiculous the whole thing actually is.

So while I think there are men who don’t “get it” from our point of view, or understand how threatening we find it that these men are using our spaces, they are at least viewing the whole thing with a healthy disdain, which if it became widespread and regularly expressed, would influence all kinds of other men to reject the raft of abusive men, who are encouraged by the lack of push-back from other men to continue to use their claims of womanhood as a weapon.
