I was surprised by this video, not just by the hysteria on display, but heartened by the comments. People are starting to question, to push back. In esence, they are not playing the game anymore.

Why are people derailing by talking about the channel on which this video was posted? The video came directly from the Tik Tok of Eden Torres and Eden has been doubling down about it on Twitter, so it hasn't been misrepresented on that channel. And Eden is getting a roasting on Twitter as well.

And we have all seen the 'It's Ma'am!' video before anyway haven't we?

@KimikosNightmare my point to the op is share a different link , there are lots. My point is some peoples good opinion isn’t worth it. I’m no fan of cancel culture and if you’d ever engaged with me before on these boards you’d see I’m clearly gc. Your hitler point is the opposite to what you think it is - if hitler said the sonic trans woman was disgusting would you be shouting it from the rooftops and andy telling me to take my cancel culture elsewhere? If Peter tatchell suddenly said prisons should be single sex would all his pedophilic tendencies suddenly be ok? I’ve never seen quite such right wing commentators shared on this topic here, I read them quite a bit and they are full of informed people with inspirational views and insights into how to be a better feminist. It’s not necessary.

@334bu

The transwoman who posted that Sonic clip is getting no support on Twitter.
I found this very encouraging. More people have picked up on the fact that a black low wage employee is being bullied. I am so glad people are outraged by this because it really sticks in my throat when people expect us to applaud them for picking on people who are less privileged than them on several counts.
KimikosNightmare · 10/10/2021 19:42

The Times today has JK Rowling on the front page of the Culture section and the top of the mast head of the main paper. The comments are overwhelmingly supportive apart from a couple quibbling about whether she's any good as a writer.

The Guardian couldn't publish this.

Then I went onto Twitter and found this, by accident, from the transwoman in the first clip:

“All I want” ( ha ha ha, because it’s about your wants) is for Sonic (a drive-in burger chain with servers on skates, very retro) to “train every single employee on how to properly affirm us.”

Not train them how to address customers, but how to affirm customers.

Again, when asked what this person was (a clunky way to ask—‘how would you like to be addressed’ would have been better), the answer was a question.

I think the tide may be turning
ShagMeRiggins · 10/10/2021 16:56

Back to the video compilation, i was struck in the first example that when the employee at Sonic was asked what he was, he said male. He then asked “what are you” and the answer from the transwoman was “what do you think?”

Not, I’m a woman. Not I’m a transwoman and prefer to be addressed as ma’am. No, it was what do I look like?

Like posters who go on sites and ask “how old do I look?”

All about seeking affirmation. Nothing to do with merely wanting to be addressed by preference. They could have said I prefer to be called ma’am and many people—certainly in service professions—would respect that as a courtesy.

If there is a times link I’ll happily read it. The op post link to a YouTube channel is NOT a Times link and I don’t see one on a quick scroll through *@KimikosNightmare* *@Babdoc* I’m not denying the tide has potentially hit a turning point, if people are referring to me with that comment. This same news is shown on a few sites - share those. May as well watch and amplify someone who cares about reality and women, not someone who would sell their grandma and 1000 of their own women supporters along with her for a story that hurts Biden. It must be possible to maintain some integrity on the journey to a better world!
you'd think, but maybe not here
Toseland · 10/10/2021 16:06

The Cologne reporting was awful and they lost me after 20 something years of reading.

It sounds very much to me that you support "cancel culture" and promote "purity spirals".
Here is another version of that Tiktok video, with some narration by a Matt Walsh. I fully expect you to reply to this, informing me that Matt Walsh is the Antichrist who eats six month old babies, three times a day.

Seriously? Yes the wispa incident was an awful example of the cost to women of this men must be included and no one shall protest trend. That in no way changes or invalidates anything I said. If you team up with morally corrupt excuses for human beings who give no shits about you or anyone who’s not in their club (newsflash - women are not) on the way you may not like where it ends up. Here’s a fun take on Tucker Carlson for you. www.harpersbazaar.com/culture/politics/a26839758/tucker-carlson-fox-news-bubba-the-love-sponge-comments-women-explained/ I’m not in the us, I have lived there for years, I have family there. But anyone can know this stuff.
What is your point? One media commentator you don't agree with somehow invalidates the stance taken by journalists and editorial on for example The Times, The Telegraph, The Spectator, Spiked, many of the UK Conservative Party?

I'm citing sources you no doubt think are terrifyingly right wing (which of course they aren't- particularly Brendan O'Neill in Spiked) No doubt others here can point you in the direction of left-wingers.

It's a rehash of that ridiculous "Hitler was a vegetarian" gotcha.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 10/10/2021 15:49

The turning point for me with regard to the Guardian, was the way they covered the new year sex attacks in Cologne and other German cities and the way they were deleting comments on articles, whilst pushing their "Comment is free" mantra.

They were so very dishonest about Cologne it shocked me as I had seen them as somewhat misguided but morally sound up to that point. That kind of thing rarely shocks me any more.

Did you witness the violence against women, perpetrated by left wing, trans rights activists after the WiSpa incident? Did you witness the behaviour of the beardyleftie guy in the WiSpa towards the black woman who was videoing the behaviour of staff towards her?
You are obviously in the US, whilst I am in the UK. Can you tell me why it is the left leaning political parties who are trying to destroy women's rights, allow males in women's sport, women's prisons, women's changing rooms?
As for WW3, I think any US president irrespective of their party is capable of starting that.
I wonder how the Afghan women are feeling right now?

OP posts:
timeisnotaline · 10/10/2021 14:55

I think it’s totally irrational to sound like you’re comparing the two presidents, when actually you are talking about this particular point. Yes, it’s significant, but world war 3 won’t be good for women either. The unfettered pandemic let rage has been awful for women. Separating children and treating them badly hurts their parents, particularly their mothers forever. Trump supporters will ban abortions full stop if they have their way and have women back in the kitchen.

andyoldlabour · 10/10/2021 14:38

Trump was bad, but Biden is completely mad. On 20th Jan, he signed an order which effectively allowed transgirls to compete in girl's sports. Biden is no friend of girls and women.

"The Biden executive order is far more ambitious. Any school that receives federal funding—including nearly every public high school—must either allow biological boys who self-identify as girls onto girls’ sports teams or face administrative action from the Education Department."

The Guardian's coverage of the New Year sex attacks in Cologne was a Ratner's moment, albeit one where the fall-out is unfolding very slowly.

andyoldlabour · 10/10/2021 13:06

"I would say the Times is the very definition of mainstream media, and it is resolutely gender critical. It has enjoyed a big rise in readership, mainly women deserting the Guardian over this issue.
Desperate denial of reality seems to be a feature of gender ideologists. The poster trying to frantically pretend that the tide has not turned fits the mould perfectly."

The Times ? One of the oldest and most respected newspapers in the world?

334bu come on, that man is an active danger to democracy and human rights in the US. Still pass.

Agree , but TWAW puts woman in real danger as well. Biden will be responsible for every woman raped in a US prison. Do those women not matter in the land of the free?

nauticant · 10/10/2021 12:57

A channel founded by tucker fake news Carlson? Pass.

It is vital for us to ignore the actual content and instead only focus on the source, which enables us to dismiss things that are in conflict with our blinkered view of the world. This is a Rochdale scandal enabling kind of thinking and is utterly dismal to see.
