Netflix urged to take down Dave Chapelle’s show after accusations of ‘anti-LGBT diatribes’

I highly recommend watching all of Dave’s Netflix specials (in order!) - this one is ‘the closer’. He is not just funny but thought provoking and very clever!

Yes he used to be pretty pro TRA didn't he?

Don't think so - he's always been rather skeptical as long as I can remember commenting. But he's been increasingly outspoken.

He's a moderate conservative - was taking the lead on gay marriage back in the 90s, but don't think he's ever been in favour of the radical "LGBTQ" stuff.

Indeed, being in favour of gay marriage in the 90s was going against the radicals - the equivalent of the TRAs back - who regarded marriage as a heteronormative institution that they wanted to "queer".

Sparring partner Glenn Greenwald, coming from the left, another gay man, has been somewhat more pro-TRA, but is increasingly skeptical. Hasn't yet come up with anything quite like that though - he's not as deep into the technical bits of the subject, more just worried about the shape of the movement, particularly how authoritarian it is. He did just call out someone demanding Jesse Singal and Graham Linehan be banned from Substack recently.

And people are imperfect. This purity spiral stuff is divisive and unhelpful. It's GOOD to find common ground. You're much more likely to change someone's mind that way.

Yeah, you really can't assume that what is in a comedy show reflects the views of the comedian in a direct way, and certainly not in a nuanced way.

But it’s not his view of Michael Jackson. It’s his view that a joke like that about Michael Jackson would be provocative, offensive, and funny and worth putting in that show.

That was a different special from a few years ago. They tried to cancel him then too. I dont agree with his views about Michael Jackson and I didn't like the child abuse joke in this show either. I can still find other things he says funny though.

The Sullivan article is on his own website, so I think it should be around for a while.

It's been interesting to watch his engagement with this, he keeps seeing more and more and I can almost picture his growing horror.

I know time and I do see the change as positive - it's just galling to see a man getting clapped and a woman getting death threats.

I agree with you, JKR is so brave. Be interesting to see what happens next.

@SirSamuelVimes partly true but JKr said it back when it was burn at the stake material. Just the fact he’s saying it shows it’s not anymore. I’ll be very interested in the changing reception JKR gets, she’s a very brave woman.

Fucking typical though, isn't it? JKR says it and she get thrown under the bus. A man says he agrees with her, he gets applause.

Chappelle’s final Netflix special, “The Closer,” is a classic. Far from being outdated, it’s slightly ahead of its time, as the pushback against wokeness gains traction. It is extremely funny, a bit meta, monumentally mischievous, and I sat with another homo through the whole thing, stoned, laughing our asses off — especially when he made fun of us. The way the elite media portrays us, you’d think every member of the BLT community is so fragile we cannot laugh at ourselves. It doesn’t occur to them that, for many of us, Chappelle is a breath of honest air, doing what every comic should do: take aim at every suffocating piety of the powers that be — including the increasingly weird 2SLGBTQQIA+ mafia — and detonating them all.

The Closer is, in fact, a humanely brilliant indictment of elite culture at this moment in time: a brutal exposure of its identitarian monomania, its denial of reality, and its ruthless tactics of personal and public destruction. Bigoted? Please. Anyone who can watch this special and think Chappelle is homophobic or transphobic is either stupendously dumb or a touchy fanatic. He is no more transphobic than J.K. Rowling, i.e. not at all, and the full set masterfully proves it to anyone with eyes and ears.

He also uses this as an opportunity to talk about Abigail's Shrier interview with Bowers and Anderson.

Some comedy is meant to be dark, never a truer word said in jest etc.
Remember Ricky Gervais hosting the Golden Globes last year as he joked in a room full of Hollywood elites about the Weinstein company "buying" Golden Globes for actresses. It was meant to make the audience feel uncomfortable, as a lot of them knew and benefited from Weinstein's abuses and kept quiet while it suited them.

There were 2 stony faced women and a beardy man near the front who were clearly disapproving - and unintentionally funny to watch in the process.

Their constipated, stony expressions were so funny while everyone around was howling with laughter. 😂

I think someone said they liked him, maybe it was loved him but that doesn’t translate to ‘all the love’
