Misogyny is absolutely wrong, whether it’s a man against a woman, or a woman against a man

Difficult to slide a piece of paper between their views.

They are made for each other

"I mean it's crazy
What?
We finish each other's
Sandwiches!
That's what I was gonna say!
I've never met someone
Who thinks so much like me!
Jinx! Jinx again!
Our mental synchronization
Can have but one explanation
You
And I
Were
Just
Meant to be!"

How did Raab manage to become a barrister? He seems genuinely dim. Lammy seems to have a bit more about him, but he's complacent and arrogant

PickAChew · 08/10/2021 22:31

Sayeeda Warsi just called Raab an idiot on The Last Leg.

FionaMacCool · 06/10/2021 23:38

I always want to believe in my longstanding naiveté that politicians are bright and public-service minded.

Having seen Raab's performance when speaking to Lady Sylvia Hermon in relation to the Good Friday Agreement/Brexit ramifications, I was reminded that bright is not always a requisite and that power attracts the power-hungry.
Raab, in that article linked by @PurgatoryOfPotholes, proves that he is indeed one of the not-bright-and-power-hungry types.

He writes:
"From the cradle to the grave, men are getting a raw deal". Hmm
How can he truly believe that, when one looks at the proportional distribution of wealth

"Gender inequality in wealth ownership
On average women own less wealth than men, with women in the UK owning approximately 40% of the country’s total personal wealth. Ownership of wealth is fairly even between men and women until people reach their 30s, when men start to pull away from women........
By the time a woman is in her early 60s, her average pension pot is a fifth the size of that of a man her age. "

I suspect they think sexism and misogyny are the same thing
It's an easy mistake to make, like confusing the cervix and cress because both can be grown on a sunny windowsill ...
A true confederacy of dunces.

madisonbridges · 06/10/2021 22:47

I don't know if they are as thick as each other. Deciding question. Does Raab think men can grow cervixes or indeed any other body part. Oops, lost my eye in a battle at Hastings. No problem, chuck me some hormones and I'll grow another one!

Warmduscher · 06/10/2021 22:47

And here’s another - my MP.

To be fair (although no idea why I'd want to be fair) I think he was making the obfuscating point that hate speech is wrong whatever sex it is directed at and mysogyny is not a thing, not saying mysogyny could apply to either sex. In the same way that people say, black lives matter - no all lives matter Hmm.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 06/10/2021 21:35

Raab would probably say mixed-sex boxing was feminists getting equality for women.

TyrannysaurusXXrightshoarder · 06/10/2021 21:26

[quote PurgatoryOfPotholes]Raab gives zero shits.

Fuck me, I was prepared to give Raab the benefit of the doubt until I read that pile of shite.

Stunning.

Foxy Kimono has blocked me and I've never even tweeted. It must be from a like

Jaysmith71 · 06/10/2021 18:25

Dom "The Sea Was Closed" Raab who did not paddle while Kabul burned.

Passmeamenuatthetottenham · 06/10/2021 17:18

This is just another opportunity for the likes of Lammy, Jones, Maugham etc to pretend they give a flying fuck about women in order to get one over on their 'opponents'. They are just using us to make themselves look good. They can fuck off.

Not that Raab gives a shit either.

lazylinguist · 06/10/2021 16:59

*misogyny, not mosogyny!

BraveBananaBadge · 06/10/2021 16:30

I wish they would all just shut up and fuck off.

Yup.

ZuttZeVootEeeVo · 06/10/2021 16:12

It's interesting to me that when asked about making misogyny a hate crime, Raab links it to insults. It's as if 'hate crime' now is focused on speech and not so much on a motivation for violent crime.

lazylinguist · 06/10/2021 15:50

I don't see how the inclusion of the word 'insults' makes the use of 'misogyny' here any less wrong, especially since he said mosogyny second.

WinterTrees · 06/10/2021 15:10

Foxy Kimono has waded in. He is, after all, Chief Misogynist. (And the High Commander of Hypocrisy too, it seems.)

I was watching a programme on Monday about the rise of Blair and Brown and I was thinking that Labour in those days had some really intelligent MP's who stood for something. I could recognise Jack Straw, Robin Cook, John Smith, Margaret Beckett etc.

Nowadays I haven't got a clue what Labour stand for or who anyone is.

Then my own MP who I thought was one of the good ones turns out to be a complete twat.

Lottapianos · 06/10/2021 13:57

'I think they don't really care what they say about women. Women aren't fully human'

Spot on. Just trot out any old shit and hope the issue goes away. Pathetic

TimeToDateAgain · 06/10/2021 13:54

@Eucalyptustrees

The OP has very selectively edited Raab to miss out him saying the bit about insults and misogyny.

Selectively editing people's words to deliberately cause abuse and insults is one of the problems we face. If you also participate in that technique then your claims for damages are rather hollow.

It's a sly bit of editing by the Guardian as well because they've omitted the insults bit as well. How very manipulative to the point of dishonesty:

However, pressed on BBC Breakfast about whether misogyny should be a hate crime, he appeared not to understand the term as he said “misogyny is absolutely wrong, whether it’s a man against a woman or a woman against a man”.

It's not elegantly expressed but it is speech with all of the ambiguities that we would all utter if transcribed and then edited: Raab clearly says, insults and misogyny in the clip the Guardian uses.

Datun · 06/10/2021 13:51

Yes he said insults and misogyny. So he's half right.

The issue, for me, is that there is this need to pretend that it's all symmetrical and it goes both ways.

It isn't, and it doesn't.

I have absolutely no problem with politicians campaigning for provision for men who need it for whatever reason.

But not when it's used as some kind of counterbalance to the misogyny that women face.
