Whistle-blower says official policy documents compare patients who ask for single-sex spaces to racists and label them 'transphobes'

Those need to be put into the public domain. If they're prepared to write it and implement it , they have to be prepared to stand behind it in the public arena.

Agreed, TimeToDateAgain.

On the EIA I have a copy of, in the section 'Expected impact upon other groups' , under the protected characteristic of sex (changed to 'gender') is written: 'Positive: Increased awareness of the wider spectrum of Trans patients within policy'.

So that's us told.

Re these EIA being in the public domain, I agree as they highlight the absurdity. If you can't acknowledge a conflict, how on earth can you manage it. Considering how best to approach this - already been through all official channels.

@KittenKong

Every single person responsible for creating these rules - and those who enthusiastically enforced them - needs sacking.
Agreed

She added: “In one mental health trust, a male who identifies as a woman was placed on a female ward with observation. This patient complained that the observation was discriminatory, and it was removed.

I wonder if the observation was because the patient was known to have previous. I’m sure I read something before about known sex offenders still be placed on wards but with observation.

Ah. Like the prison wing.

Where they tried to accommodate the TW prisoners considered too dangerous to go in the female estate by putting a separate wing in a women's prison and have some controlled, supervised contact.

The TW complained it was discriminatory and just got full access to the female prisoners and their spaces.

There is no compromise possible, there is not one scrap of care or empathy in social contract that will ever be extended for female people and their needs, there is no 'balance'. The only solution is no. None. Not any. Male and female absolute segregation. Now go and lobby for additional spaces to the sex based ones.

I think that one day in the future there will have to be a public enquiry into how the fuck transgenderist ideology became so embedded in our supposedly democratic society without any consultation or oversight or public approval, how these multiple abuses were enabled and promoted by those entrusted with safeguarding the vulnerable and supposedly accountable for their actions.

An enquiry of the type into child abuse scandals, or the Hillsborough cover up, or other cases where those in authority horrifically failed and/or betrayed those they were supposed to represent and serve.

This should quite simply not be happening. None of it. It is at odds with all the values of a supposedly liberal, progressive, democratic society. It is rooted in the most heinous denial of reality: as Kate Coleman so articulately emphasised in her nail-on-head speech linked to above, before Nic Williams’ and Dr Helyer’s, ideology has been substituted for reality and the result is that people are acting as if the real world does not exist.

People are acting as if it’s actually true that biological sex is immaterial and irrelevant, and only “gender identity” matters, because that’s what this ideology says, and this ideology holds sway over a great many people and institutions that should know much, much better. And the results, in the real world, where biological sex continues to be as real and material and relevant as ever, are - unsurprisingly - catastrophic.

When are people going to be held to account for undemocratically and unjustly imposing this ideology on us all, and particularly on the most vulnerable?

Hell yes.

Especially the part where when you implement this ideology in the real world, the results are catastrophic.

And all on women.

ArabellaScott · 06/10/2021 13:51

Agree, Talking.

We also need to look - again - at how whistleblowers have been so badly treated during all of this.

@DickKerrLadies

Something I don't get is that we know that single-sex wards are what the general public want. The NHS know this too, otherwise they would just come out and say that wards are single-gender and that those males are women. Stonewall also know it, otherwise they would have said something other than that non-statement their spokesperson said.

(And on FWR, I think we're pretty well qualified in recognising when someone is having to skirt round language in order to try and say what they want to because they know they can't actually come out and say it. We do it all the time here!)

So why are some TRAs so insistent that 'nobody cares' who they share a space with? Is it just the right side of history bs again?

This is a very good point. Why the lies and obfuscation if there’s nothing to see here anyway? Why was the NHS told to say their wards are “single sex” even as it was being decided they would be “single gender”?

Why would anybody care, if it’s true that nobody really cares? Why wouldn’t people have been perfectly fine and happy with being told they were actually going to get mixed sex, single gender wards, I wonder, if everybody is really as on board with “TWAW” as Stonewall and other TRAs claim?

These are the women we need to be suing the NHS Trusts and gov etc..

but it is incredibly cruel that the women who are the most vulnerable, are unwell and who have assaulted (probably not for the first time) have to be the ones to bring a claim.

Who is standing up for their rights? How will they access justice if the health care system they are trapped in already abuses them?

Apparently if they are deemed to lack capacity then there is no hope of justice for them, because their account cannot be taken as testimony.

It is savage. And as you say, the very institution that is supposed to be caring for them, trying to restore them to health, is the organisation that is enabling their abuse and denying them a voice.

Unspeakable.

LigandBrigand · 06/10/2021 12:58

”The patient went on to sexually assault two women patients. The same patient was placed on a female ward on a subsequent admission, and each time assaulted women. Staff concerns were ignored.”

It is an appalling torture

@Rabidgingercat

On Equality Impact Assessments I have seen that are carried out in relation to trans women on female psychiatric wards, they have actually changed the wording of the protected characteristic of ‘sex’ to ‘gender’, and stated there is a neutral or even positive impact on other groups.

We need a clear commitment that people need to tell the truth. We need the restrictive privacy clauses taken out of the GRA so no one can hide behind that. Women have the right to be told they will be on a mixed sex ward.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/10/2021 11:35

Everyone knows the NHS is stretched; if staff were apologetic and explained a male in a female ward was a temporary situation due to a bed crisis, that's one thing. It's the shameless dishonesty of insisting it's still a female ward and that nobody should be making a fuss that's so insidious.

YY, and also as mentioned in Dr Helyer's talk the idea that a male on a female mental health ward complained about being monitored because it was othering, and they dropped it and failed to safeguard the women in their care.

Beowulfa · 06/10/2021 11:11

I have a horror of hospitals/medical environments. Reading stuff like this just makes me even less likely to ever call 999 or see a GP .

Dozer · 06/10/2021 11:02

Ditto that girls and women can’t request a female practitioner, even for intimate examinations/procedures.

Dozer · 06/10/2021 10:58

Mixed sex wards were already a longstanding NHS scandal!

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/10/2021 10:54

Dr Helyer also touched on the issue of hospitals not carrying out proper impact assessments on behalf of women. FOIs sent by MNers have shown up that many in the NHS don't understand the purpose of an Equality Impact Assessment or Public Sector Equality Duty, and that they need to examine how a proposed policy may impact all 9 EA protected characteristics and mitigate this, not just the one the policy is concerned with.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 06/10/2021 10:50

Agree. Efforts to engage with the Tories on the issue of hospitals, the NHS capture and mental health units should focus on him.

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 06/10/2021 10:49

@PronounssheRa

Are there existing protocols for risk assessing female inpatients?

I doubt it, or if there are it will be seriously limited because the NHS won't have access to all the information required to risk assess.

Quite. I doubt the risk assessment will be an actual risk assessment. If all the possible negative outcomes are pre-defined as being transphobic no-one is going to get close to evaluating how likely they are.
RoyalCorgi · 06/10/2021 10:48

Sajid Javid needs to do something about this.

He claims to be on women's side in all of this - but he is in charge of the NHS. He needs to take responsibility.
