Read and weep. Two warrant cards, one male, one female.
After this week and what we've learnt about the Met.

You couldn't make it up.

“The first time I walked into a Met building as Abi, I was hyperventilating so much I almost passed out.
I’ve done it a handful of times since and felt so happy that I got to be me at work. Abi is a part of me that exists and I want that part to be recognised and validated."

It seems convenient that the feeling of being Abi or Callum is routinely in place in time for the gender fluid officer to pick a uniform before each shift starts. What happens if their polarity reverses mid-shift? It must happen!

FlyingOink · 05/10/2021 21:39

It was a pcso not a police officer, and said individual appeared to spend the majority of working hours posting woke nonsense online.

I'd be surprised if that pcso did many foot patrols at all, never mind alone. But yeah, being asked "are you a boy or a girl" by an autistic youth isn't exactly hate crime of the century.

The 'hate crime' in question was a teenager shouting "are you a boy or a girl?". Twice.

I'm not saying that's okay. I'm not.

But it's left this officer "reluctant to go on foot patrols alone".

I can't help but think that most coppers get far, far worse shouted at them routinely. As do most nurses. And pretty much anyone who has ever worked in a shop or behind a bar.

And, of course, that's not okay, either.

But I can't help but wonder if this person is cut out for a career in the police, not because of gender identity, but because criminals are occassionally known to indulge in a bit of foul language or name slinging. They might even use the big big D! It's clearly just too much to be endured.

@Artichokeleaves

Yes.

Unfortunately not saying the words and not letting anyone else say the words does not make anything go away.

Quite, those of us that have worked with a number of transwomen in male environments know exactly what that word is and frankly if I described how encountering it regularly at work makes me feel this post would probably be deleted too

Deleted for speaking the truth.
Thanks Mumsnet, how very predictable.
For anyone interested, my post was very similar to this one above:

"Well that’s totally normal and reassuring isn’t it? I think there is a three-letter term which covers that feeing of euphoria that certain male people get when dressing according to female stereotypes."

Except I used an apparently banned word. Doesn't make it any less true.

Artichokeleaves · 05/10/2021 11:46

There is a point too at which it becomes requiring members of the public to be involved as non consenting participants in someone else's internal life. Where is the line in making inappropriate 'use' of others for own purposes while in a public serving role where customers can't just choose to go elsewhere?

What about police officers who may identify as age fluid, or ability fluid? Where are the lines please? And where is my authentic self's right to express that I identify as someone who does not want to have to involve myself in a police officers' personal complications in order to access police help?

Thelnebriati · 05/10/2021 09:21

Women had questions about this at the time, the Met declined to answer.

That's so sad, ffs this madness has to stop.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 05/10/2021 09:11

We have just seen an explosion of institutionalised police violence against women come to light and yet they are happy to issue dual warrant cards on an officer's say-so with no checks or balances? I mean, wow! It's a green light to abusers. How can they not see it? Or maybe it should be why. But then it's an easy way to look progressive without having to make any actual changes. Let's hope they're all true trans eh ladies, after all it's hard to flag down a bus between stops.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 05/10/2021 09:06

It's a shocking story. I've peaked several people with it and Phil/Pippa Bunce, because whatever they think about people who they see as transsexuals, most people see through this "genderfluid" nonsense.

Needmoresleep · 05/10/2021 09:01

The links between misogyny and capture?

If an organisation does not value women and recognise their additional vulnerability and need for single sex spaces, it becomes easier to believe TWAW.

WouldBeGood · 05/10/2021 09:01

I’ve just seen this. Beggars belief.

Artichokeleaves · 05/10/2021 09:01

It is an old story, but no less outrageous. This is not a TW or a non binary person wanting the freedom to dress as and be themselves at work - which would be no problem of any kind, a TM would really have nothing to do beyond their choice of name, the uniform is highly androgynous anyway - this is someone with a separate persona that they like to use as needed.

TW police officers, NB, TM, great, just have some sensitivity about extreme sensitive points like who searches who and accept that many people require same sex not identified sex. End of issue.

But a separate persona? If we have a police officer who identifies as a Klingon or an elf or furry would that be equally something they should be allowed to use their workplace and public serving role to express, while expecting the general public service users to indulge it?

Whatthechicken · 05/10/2021 08:58

Just posted on another thread that talked about the double warrant card issue. I would worry about the legal ramifications of any arrest this person made when presenting as their other identity.

I presume ‘gender fluid’ people wouldn’t legally change their name, as they would use the original identity when they are presenting as that gender. So, there is legally one person - but actually two names (for their other warrant card). Does the other identity have to be sworn in as an officer too? Would an arrest stand up in court if the second identity is not a legal person?

highame · 05/10/2021 08:40

when I get angry, my cynicism takes over

highame · 05/10/2021 08:39

I always thought the 'inclusion' by the Met for transwomen (because it is always transwomen) was a smokescreen. 'If we are going to remain a misogynistic force, we have to have a woman leader and fold our arms around men who are apg. Women will never notice - oh they look at rape statistics, oh dear. Never mind, lets wave a rainbow flag

nauticant · 05/10/2021 08:04

It's good to revisit this now. At the time, any complaint would have attracted the "bigot" slur and it wasn't acceptable to argue in response. Now, well, it turns out that sex is fundamental and how the Met organise themselves needs to prioritise someone's sex over their gender identity. That's if the Met is in the business of serving the public though and not being there to suit the life choices of those working in the Met.

ScreamingMeMe · 05/10/2021 07:26

@334bu

So can Abi strip search female suspects? Can Abi interview rape victims? In the light of the Couzen'c trial could women refuse to ' accompany Abi to the station"?
That's a god point, and the way things have been going, it would probably be the woman who got in trouble.
334bu · 05/10/2021 07:17

Since Abi is male I do not think that Abi could be used to search a trans man unless the trans man consented to a search by Abi.

But "Abi" is a " woman" on the warrant card. Abi is classed as a female officer. Only female officers can strip search any female suspect no matter their gender identity.
