Met Police officer becomes Britain's first 'bi-gender' PC

Read and weep. Two warrant cards, one male, one female.
After this week and what we've learnt about the Met.

You couldn't make it up.

“The first time I walked into a Met building as Abi, I was hyperventilating so much I almost passed out.
I’ve done it a handful of times since and felt so happy that I got to be me at work. Abi is a part of me that exists and I want that part to be recognised and validated."

(I haven't read the Sun article so am not commenting on that, just the official Met document)

MonsignorMirth · 29/11/2021 18:59

That Met document can't be the finished version, there's a mistake in it.

Several terms are defined directly based on the term "gender", but that word isn't defined at all.

Can you explain what it is, please, NoraNik - genuinely looking to become educated on this.

Motorina · 29/11/2021 18:55

@NoraNik

One collar number. The problem is?
Well, I wouldn't particularly notice the collar number. Why would I?

I would notice two names and two genders.

In my professional life that would be just fine. In day to day life, also fine. When I had just been sexually assaulted and this person was taking my statement? No, that would be difficult and confusing to cope with.

Why did you say, "the dual warrant card angle is clearly inaccurate" when it is apparent from a Met policy document that this has happened. And it's apparent from your subsequent posts that you were aware of this.

Why do you say, "It wouldn’t have happened. That person works in a completely different field" when Met policy clearly means that it could?

@NoraNik

It wouldn’t have happened. That person works in a completely different field. Why is everyone on this thread worrying about something that couldn’t happen on the say so of the Sun? Could it be…prejudice?
This is from the Met Police document posted earlier:

If you identify as non-binary gender, and wish to have the capability to present how you feel at work, you are encouraged to speak to your line management in order to facilitate this. Whilst each case will need to be assessed on an individual basis, line management are strongly encouraged to do all they can to allow individuals to be themselves. This potentially includes secondary warrant cards, uniform or email addresses if required.

As an example, a successful pilot project has been completed with a self-declared non-binary officer who works in SO. The officer now holds two warrant cards and has two e-mail addresses.

It's not just something made up by the Sun.

Missing the point. A la Sun

Beckert · 29/11/2021 14:51

One collar number. The problem is?

One collar number. Two identities. Two names. One male. One female. Same person. In a position of power in the police. You can't see any problems with that?

NoraNik · 29/11/2021 14:42

The dictators running hostile nation states are pointing and laughing at us.

Our police and soldiers are meant to be tough and resilient defending the state and the vulnerable from harm and yet they have turned into this

here's a little question....

If a hostile state wants to astroturf and bankroll an activist group, what kind of group do they choose?

Image you are a tyranical leader of a hostile nation state who wants to astroturf a gay rights movement - which of the gay man in the below video do you give the funding to?

Oops, pocket post!

It's utterly insane in this day and age that we have a person working for bloody police who one day says they are a man and the next day says they're woman.

It's mad.

Shehasadiamondinthesky · 28/11/2021 22:38

Its a great big fuck off from me too. I ride big motorbikes, maybe I should be a man on those days ff's.

Beckert · 28/11/2021 22:35

You do realise the warrant number is the same on both cards?

But two different names / gender identities. One male and one female. Correct?

Lifeinthelastlane · 28/11/2021 22:35

Sorry, it is now called Dissociative identity disorder, google tells me.

Lifeinthelastlane · 28/11/2021 22:33

He gets to have two names?
Why is being a man who likes to wear a dress to work not ok? I think most of us could get on board with that. Believing you have two co-existing personalities sounds like multiple personality disorder.

RedDogsBeg · 28/11/2021 22:30

@NoraNik

So? The name isn't is it.
Motorina · 28/11/2021 22:27

@NoraNik nope, not a clue. Never seen a warrant card. No idea what one looks like. Why would I?

I do know that, when I was the victim of a sexual assault, I had a single police officer who I kept in contact through the investigation.

It would have been beyond confusing if I'd got emails from 'Fred' one day, and 'Jane' the next. I probably wouldn't have realised they were the same person. So I'd have found myself having to explain to 'Jane' what I'd said to 'Fred'. And vica versa. Which would have meant explaining the same intimate trauma twice. As it turns out, unneccessarily.

If I did know, I'd be worrying about what name/pronounds/email address I was meant to use today. And whether I'd get in trouble if I used the wrong one.

It would have been really stressful, which was the last thing I would have needed when bracing myself to give evidence on oath about what a predatory man had done to me.

NoraNik · 28/11/2021 22:21

RedDogsBeg · 28/11/2021 22:10

The Police Service is not there to validate the identities of those who work for them, their job is the prevention and detection of crims would be nice if they concentrated on that and serving the citizens who give them their consent to Police them and pay for the privilege through their taxes. Maybe we would have less VAWG if they spent more time on doing the job expected of them instead of virtue signalling this kind of nonsense.

Motorina · 28/11/2021 22:09

*two warrant cards. Not to warrant cards. I blame the cat, who is currently head butting my fingers.

Motorina · 28/11/2021 22:08

@NoraNik

I know this person and found the comments in this thread quite shocking. You got that story from The Sun. Doesn’t that ring alarm bells? It’s inaccurate (they were promoted from constable a long time before 2017), there are specialist roles in any police force that don’t involve uniforms or searching of suspects, and the dual warrant card angle is clearly inaccurate. Fancy jumping on any old red top tosh and taking it as gospel. Shame on you all
I share your concerns about the sun.

Here’s a Met policy document talking about a bi-gender officer who holds to warrant cards and has two Met email addresses.

www.met.police.uk/SysSiteAssets/foi-media/metropolitan-police/disclosure_2019/july_2019/information-rights-unit---transgender-policy

I don’t know if that individual is Callum/Abi or not but perhaps you could explain why the idea is “clearly inaccurate” when Met Police documents make it clear it has happened at least once.
