It was a good podcast. He is clear that you can prioritise inclusion OR fairness/ safety NOT both and parents should challenge sporting bodies that claim they can include all 3 and ask them how? As Ross say you can’t balance all 3 factors unless you only mean inclusion, fairness and safety for trans women ( which some people might do) but the converse of that is exclusion, unfairness and less safety for women and girls.
I think parents with sporty daughters ( and even with sons) now have an opportunity to raise this with schools and sporting bodies.
And sex remains the most important factor in division of sports not long arms or height as you hear people arguing sometimes.

There are many, many of us here who take part in sport or our DCs do. Everyone one of us needs to write to their NGB now and ask what they’re going to do now.

This is good. One section addressed to this audience:

And what I want to end this section of this video... is to say now to women, that this report and the World Rugby position... I don't want to use the word "permit" you to speak, because that sounds patronising and paternalistic, and it's not that...

But, before, whatever your fears were, just know that now there are so many people who support you. So don't hold back. Don't be afraid any more. This document effectively opens up a new line of conversation where you should no longer be afraid to express a view that is actually scientifically valid. And I hope that that is the most significant contribution that this document makes.

Just listened to this. As usual it’s an excellent run down of the science with some commentary at the end. Ross is quite damning of the words from Stonewall’s Director of Communication, who is coincidentally also on British Cycling’s Diversity and Inclusion committee.

@Yepnothatfeeling

Sorry haven't read the whole thread, but for those of us with Dc involved in sport, is it worth writing to the governing bodies to ask for their take on this?
Yes please, it gives us ammunition

Lunatics. Delusional. Nothing else to be said about TRAs.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 01/10/2021 13:35

I would not get involved in histrionic debates tbh. Fair play for women do a good job of being measured.

Yes, there is a time when it's wise to assess how many bystanders there are likely to be v. wasting your time playing chess with a pigeon.

I read a couple of twitter accounts last night saying all the questions were transphobic because TWAW and therefore the report is completely unacceptable on that basis. It is not really worth engaging with people who are taking that perspective. IMHO

timeisnotaline · 01/10/2021 12:08

British kickboxing must have deleted comments on their Fb post.

WomaninBoots · 01/10/2021 11:45

Not here either. Other Internet places. Smile

Because they've had a histrionic fit and bowed out so I'm doing it for the lurkers. Wink
Ah, I thought you meant a WApp or Teams with someone not here.

@WomaninBoots

Thank you. I'll see if I can open the report on my computer. I am having a discussion with someone who is insisting that trans voices are not being listened to on this issue and would like to refute it with solid evidence.
Why is it not the responsibility of that person to provide evidence for their claim?
McDuffy · 01/10/2021 11:05

@WomaninBoots

Sorry, I should also be clear that I wasn't fishing for a list of specific people with nefarious purposes! I just realised how my post might have come across. I simply wanted a general idea (but an evidenced general idea) of who had been spoken to and how well both women's and trans perspectives had been represented.

Sorry if I was unclear/worrying.

Not at all! the author goes into a fair bit of detail overall about contributors but kept at a high level. I am not one of the pro athletes!

I don’t see how kickboxing can maintain their inclusive position no matter how much they want to. If I was the parent of a kickboxing daughter I would now be demanding why inclusion trumps fairness and safety for my daughter. If my daughter had to fight a trans girl from another club I would now demand fairness and safety with the competition

In fact, couldn't there be a thread devoted to great lines for t-shirts?

Please make it so. Grin

Beowulfa · 01/10/2021 10:20

@McPancreas

As ever, reality is a TERF
I'd like this on a t-shirt.

SCEG say that trans inclusion is not compatible with sport that is fair for women. That’s right. That’s what the research by Hilton and Lundburg, and by Ross Tucker. This is solid scientific evidence, listed in the literature review, fully evidenced. This is now accepted by the other side (like Joanna Harper who want to drop “fair” for “meaningful”).

But that means that SCEG are saying to NGBs: “You decide whether you want sports rules that are safe and fair for women, or rules that are unsafe and unfair to women, but trans-inclusive.” I’m glad that the position is presented clearly. Presenting things clearly is fundamental to philosophy.

Once the question is put like that, however, there is only one of the two candidate policies that makes sense. I don’t think NGBs can say to women players: “We’ve decided to regulate in a way that makes sport unfair and unsafe for you.” Aside from the legal and insurance issues, I think that is straightforwardly unethical. It uses women athletes as a means to an end, raising the risks of injury and unfairness to them, in a way that is impermissible.

I couldn't open it but could download. It seems a very clear and unbiased report. It gives voice to both sides, and it is two irreconcilable viewpoints.

McDuffy · 01/10/2021 09:28

@WomaninBoots

I'm sorry if I have missed it but is there a list or outline anywhere about who was consulted for this report and what research was presented etc? I can't seem to open the link to the report itself.
No, as most of us requested anonymity. I work for an NGB but was clear that I wasn't speaking on their behalf (as my opinion is not the same as my employer's official position). I also spoke about the two sports I participate in; running and equestrian (latter is mixed sex of course!)
CatsOperatingInGangs · 01/10/2021 09:15

I couldn’t open the report on my phone but could do it on the laptop.
There’s nothing a detailed list as the respondents were guaranteed anonymity however they do list the countries represented, the sports etc
