@Franca123

What are they so scared off? You can't make policy based on fear of bullying by powerful lobby groups.
I’ve come really late to this issue as it had absolutely no impact on my life. When all the JKR thing happened I was vaguely curious as to what outrageous thing she could have said as I thought she was a nice, non-controversial famous person. I read some of the coverage and was still perplexed. Read what she had said and thought “Of course. Where’s the controversy?”.

I have now read some pro-trans musings on Twitter etc and I am disgusted at the level of misogynistic bile that is produced. I don’t understand how you can show such hatred toward a group you want to identify as.

And as for the seemingly impossiblity of answering really simple questions like “is it wrong to say only women have cervix?”, this is never going to be a mature and reasoned debate.

The TR lobby groups are bullying legislative change because they are shutting down discussion by shouting “TRANSPHOBE” the second someone mentions that maybe women’s rights are being eroded or that we still need to have non-penis areas. If I were a politician I would be worried about saying anything other than Be Kind or TWAW or by being bombarded by messages telling me suck lady cock.

The discussion also seems to ignore TM which is just ridiculous.

I have no answers.

Scary Barnett with the scary barnet is tops.

NecessaryScene · 29/09/2021 10:26

Well, you can. Might slightly impede your ability to get elected though.

ArabellaScott · 29/09/2021 10:25

ta, OP.

So surprised and pleased to hear WH tackling this issue.

Helleofabore · 29/09/2021 10:24

What has happened to Emma Barnet in the past two weeks? Did someone give a 'nod'? Or is it just skewering politicians makes good stats?

Either way, PULL!

Gastonia · 29/09/2021 10:24

Emma's questioning was good. She didn't ask about transwomen in sport, but about people who were born as biological men.

NapoleonOzmolysis · 29/09/2021 10:23

@Franca123

It's like Alison is making a cry for help.
Ermm once for yes, ermm twice for no....

Emma - “I’ve got someone who’s very good with words”…ouch!

@BlackeyedSusan

V careful to say trans people...and not trans women

She is a lot more fluent now off trans topic.

I’m beginning to see that politicians are scared of the backlash if they don’t follow the “bodies with XXX” line.

Emma had found the box of matches, not started a fire!

Yes you can hear the relief in her voice!

OvaHere · 29/09/2021 10:19

If it wasn't so serious it would be very funny how they all practically melt when asked to back up the ideology they have committed to as a party.

So much for #nodebate. Perhaps you should have all got together and debated because then you'd have realised ages back that it's nonsense.

Franca123 · 29/09/2021 10:19

Sounds like Alison really passionately believes that men should be in women sport. They all sound like they have gun to their back.

BlackeyedSusan · 29/09/2021 10:19

Shadow minister for sports and other stuff

Lolapusht · 29/09/2021 10:19

@1Endeavour2

If Patricia, a man, can use the women's loo then how are they protecting sex based rights?
I watched her speech last night and thought it was marvellous that she knew the abuser was in the hall at that very moment so she’d be able to tell “the officials” who the abuser was and the whole incident could be properly dealt with. I’m assuming that happened rather than just assuming it did happen and Pearl-clutching their way to inaction. Much rather sit and boo someone saying while she may not agree with RD she defends her right to say it.

Well done Emma. All is forgiven.

Jaysmith71 · 29/09/2021 10:18

This is Alison McGovern?

HipTightOnions · 29/09/2021 10:17

After that performance, how can anyone take anything else she says seriously?

Emma was brilliant.

Stuffragette · 29/09/2021 10:16

Who is this MP? I missed the beginning. She's awful

EdmontinaDonsAutumnalHues · 29/09/2021 10:16

How the jeff do these people get elected?
