And where did Patricia Hannah-Wood, a trans woman, suffer this "abuse"?

In the loos, apparently. The women's loos, I assume.

I wonder what the nature of this alleged abuse is? A woman expressing her discomfort with having to share a female-only space with a male-bodied person?

But as we have been told, there is no conflict between women's rights and trans rights, so...

@NiceGerbil

That YouTube takes me to their livestream and you can't wind back.
Works fine for me on my laptop. What device are you using?
ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/09/2021 22:22

You should be able to wind back by clicking on the thin red bar at the bottom.

DdraigGoch · 28/09/2021 22:22

The automated subtitles could do with some refinement. Some of the misinterpretations were quite amusing.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/09/2021 22:22

My attempt at a link:

If you search YouTube for "watch labour conference 2021 live day 4" it'll bring up a list, make sure you click the day 4 one. Clip is at about -5:15

NiceGerbil · 28/09/2021 22:19

That article credits the pic to you tube.

I cannot find the vid on YouTube.

Original link not working.

Nothing I can find on Google or Twitter.

What's going on?

Whitefire · 28/09/2021 22:19

Does this link work?

@Hazycoffeek

Someone earlier in the thread linked to this news report:

www.itv.com/news/granada/2021-09-28/labour-councillor-says-she-faced-transphobic-abuse-at-conference

Which says:
“It (meaning the councillor presumably) urged the party to recognise the "obstacles and growing violence" faced by LGBT+ people and to back moves to make so-called conversion therapy illegal and its use on under-18s a "form of child abuse, punishable by law.

The motion, supported by conference, also asserted trans people's "same right for self-determination as anyone else" and called for equal access to domestic abuse/rape support and shelters.”

So the Labour Party conference passed a motion in favour of banning conversion therapy (or, just therapy, as I understand it), allowing self id and amending the EA to remove the single sex exemptions, the last point in contrast to Rachel Reeves saying yesterday that Labour will not amend the EA.

If this is true, the passing of this motion is what the media should be reporting on.

I would assume "it" meant the speech, rather than the Councillor.
cheeseismydownfall · 28/09/2021 22:15

What pisses me off is that the onus is constantly on the uncomfortable woman to justify why she feels uncomfortable with the idea of a transwoman in a women's only space.

Instead, I want to PHW to clearly explain why a woman who feels understandably uncomfortable with the thought of Kier Starmer in the women's toilets should feel perfectly comfortable with the presence of PHW in said toilets?

Anyone got a link to vid?

I've googled and tried to search Twitter (although not very familiar with it so may have done it wrong and nada).

Post with clip on here stopped working.

This seems very strange.

candycane222 · 28/09/2021 22:08

Blimey, party conferences are very odd aren't they?

@Changemusthappen

I agree Arabella and I hope that all the newspapers are picking this story up and making it front page news tomorrow. This is a massive week for the Labour party and I think everyone in the UK needs to see this.

We definitely need to see and understand much much more detail about what happened here. We need pictures of Patricia, lots of pictures.

No use the newspapers picking it up. Needs to be in a format you can hear.

Starting to think of this:

Labour councillor reveals she suffered 'transphobic abuse' at party conference
Eyesofdisarray · 28/09/2021 22:05

I'd have to drunk to sit at a Labour conference

DdraigGoch · 28/09/2021 22:05

@Whatsnewpussyhat

How convenient.

In the loos? No witnesses?
No record of what was actually said or who said. ..

I'm sure that some of our favourite posters will be along in a moment to tell us that it's all a hoax, that this "never happens", that there's no proof etc. Maybe they'll even suggest that the TW should "avert their ears" if someone says something as innocuous as "this is the ladies".

Or do they automatically believe transwomen when they complain?

NiceGerbil · 28/09/2021 22:03

Sorry that was garbled.

Hope people can get the gist!

Also just thinking.

I have never ever seen fights, verbal abuse, slanging matches, or even more than a couple of not too shouty arguments in the ladies.

I mean sure it probably depends where you go. But I've been all over the place loads of different types of clubs pubs gigs festivals you name it. All around the place and for years.

This was the labour party conference :/

Other thought is the person shouting was pissed? That's drunk for any non UK readers.

RedDogsBeg · 28/09/2021 22:02

@Jaysmith71

...also, person who needs a mobility scooter to get onto the platform will surely use the disabled loos, where you get the whole place to yourself???

Certainly wouldn't be able to reverse that thing into a cubicle.

You have a great turn of phrase JaySmith71.
NiceGerbil · 28/09/2021 21:59

Not illegal to be in there no laws about sex of user. Not in this situation anyway.

I am fairly sure. A conference.

If I saw a person I read as a transwoman being verbally abused the in the ladies my automatic answer was well of course I'd step in as verbal abuse is not on.

I'm talking actually aggressive insults not a funny look obv.

But then I had another think.

And TBH. If it was someone who was giving back aggressively (rather than looking upset and worried), or they presented as a man or whatever they had done was just like some nail varnish and eyeshadow and that was it, or if the shouting was about something they had done and was just saying you need to leave.

Then well.

I suppose everyone would judge the situation in front of them. And given the considerations above.

If it wasn't about kicking off at someone because of them being trans and it felt like a situation where it was just nasty and the person seemed vulnerable etc.

Then no question with the women.

I would also try to do something if I saw someone I thought might be trans being beaten up by some men. Or in fact anyone being beaten up by some men. A bloke woman anyone if it was one sided.

I find it strange that trans people seem to get an awfully lot of verbal abuse in the ladies. But I don't read often and being attacked verbally or physically by men. Which feels strange tbh.

AlecTrevelyan006 · 28/09/2021 21:59

@Jaysmith71

The disabled also get a rough deal, but scooter-girl seems not to identify with them either.
I suspect that scooter girl is disabled in the same way that Roy was in the brilliant IT Crowd episode about the Gay musical
WhoNeedsaManOfTheWorld · 28/09/2021 21:59

The link didn't work for me
Does anyone have a link?

ArabellaScott · 28/09/2021 21:58

To be fair, we really can't know what happened. Could have been anything at all. Anything.

Bit of an odd 'story' to hang a whole speech on, really. It could be entirely invented, as it stands.

Eyesofdisarray · 28/09/2021 21:49

I wouldn't challenge PHW as I think I'd be quite scared.... 😟 was it a disabled loo? They're not that big?
And a standing ovation- come on: really????????
FFS

DavidRosesJumpers · 28/09/2021 21:49

How on earth did we get to the point where a man can get on stage and rant about being challenged in the womens toilets (assuming that's what happened) and the audience claps and cheers.... And my post will be deleted for saying so? Women really really don't matter do we.
